Come as you are as this place is not pretentious but the food is top notch! We had calamari, beef tartare, focaccia, lamb, black cod, & mushrooms & it was all amazing. The sauces were unique & we soaked up every last bit of it! Top that off with a bottle of Chardonnay & the evening was complete. Although not inexpensive, I thought it was well priced for the food quality & quantity. We will be back next time we're in Montreal for sure.
Every bite here is just a bomb of flavor & comfort. Really really good. Like, spooning up the remaining sauce on our plates & ripping the head off the fish carcass to dig out more bits.
Hands down THE best meals we had while in Montreal. (I came several times & often after leaving more expensive less satisfying restaurants)
& that's before getting to the stellar wine/drink menu, replete with GOOD non alcoholic options. Wonderful curation of nerdy, interesting & TASTY wines.
Special shoutout to our phenomenal dreadlocked server who had a way of explaining the food/menu/drinks & checking in that didn't feel overbearing, too wordy, or awkward... just kind & attentive.
Recommended: cod croquette, broccoli & spatzle, whole fried fish, & the miso black food
Lovely restaurant. Service here was exceptional. They brought us water right away & kept refilling our glasses regularly. They also took our order promptly. We had the focaccia (which was not real focaccia). It looked more like garlic bread. It was very good nonetheless. I didn't care about the dipping sauce though. We had the calamari & cod. Both dishes were excellent. The portions were just perfect for us. Not too big. In all, we had a great time & would surely come back.
Everything was spot on. Fantastic vibe, 5/5 dishes (black cod is a must!) & the cocktails are top tier. Great experience sitting at the bar, chatting, & having straight-line view of the kitchen.
The food was amazing. Everything we tried was spectacular. We had the cod, calamari, steak & potatoes, cheesecake & every one of those dishes was packed with flavor & cooked perfectly.
Even the salads, which were very good on their own, felt a little underwhelming compared to the hot dishes just because everything else was that outstanding.
My only comment is that dishes are so rich & intensely flavorful that, after a while, I found myself wishing there was something more neutral, like bread or rice, to balance everything out. Otherwise, your taste buds are getting hit from every direction all at once.
That said, the food was absolutely delicious, & I'd happily come back.
Excellent dining experience. We came early, & our table was ready so we were seated right away. Amazing for a Friday night. Food was incredible. We had the croquettes, the leeks, calamari, focaccia, tartare & black miso cod. We will be talking about the calamari & that sauce (get the bread at the same time as this dish) for the rest of our lives. Sevice was attentive, & very helpful with questions about wine & the menu. So glad we came here. Great date spot.
Everything was perfect. We will talk about the cod for years as one of the best things we've eaten. Sat at the bar & it was a great experience. Service was exquisite. We had high expectations & Cadet well exceeded them.
We had a fantastic experience at Cadet, it exceeded my expectations. The service was great, the ambiance was lively but also relaxed, & the food was outstanding. We had a perfectly coursed 3 course meal. The black cod was the standout dish. I also went to Mon Lapin on this trip & preferred my experience & the food here.
Everything was the best we ever had. Unbelievably good!
Fingerling potatoes -- best we ever had.
Asparagus -- best we ever had ,, & the burnt tips made it all the more phenomenal. Cod croquettes -- best we ever had.
Flank steak -- best we ever had.
Bread pudding -- (OMG!! I grew up loving bread pudding) -- best we ever had.
So so magically delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes & tried a couple of drinks each & every single one amazed. I will be thinking about that miso black cod FOREVER. I highly recommend getting the oysters, their house sauce pairs very well with them. The service was absolutely lovely & very accommodating. I docked a point for atmosphere just because it was a bit too loud at times. Well worth the visit!
