We came early, & our table was ready so we were seated right away. Amazing for a Friday night. Food was incredible. We had the croquettes, the leeks, calamari, focaccia, tartare & black miso cod. We will be talking about the calamari & that sauce (get the bread at the same time as this dish) for the rest of our lives. Sevice was attentive, & very helpful with questions about wine & the menu. So glad we came here. Great date spot.
One of the best meals I've had in Montreal. Worth the money & exceptional value. Great for a date night in a cool part of the city.
The Focaccia was delicious. Soft with a slightly crisp crust. The accompanying cheddar & spicy oil sauce was amazing.
The leeks with smoked mackerel, mustard, & tobikko were also very delicious. Though the portion was a bit small for the price, & did leave me desiring a bit more. I could easily eat three of these.
The flank steak was very good. The szechuan pepper sauce was heavenly, but the burnt chili salsa left a slightly bitter note, & the pickled peppers were a bit too sweet & reminded me of hot dog relish. I could do without some of those elements.
The pavlova was very good. A sensational experience. Warm & cold. Crunchy & soft. Dry & wet. All in the same bite. Very pleasant finish to what was a great meal.
One of my favorite meals - we were blown away by all the flavors & textures. We ordered the oysters, focaccia, asparagus (amazing!!) & lamb. Our server helped us narrow down the right wine selection as well. Every bite up until dessert was perfection. What a great spot!
Amazing food. Was able to get a table for one last minute. The sable fish & focaccia were amazing. I recommend getting them together so you can sop up all that delicious sauce that comes with the sable fish.
Had a fun night at Cadet. We were a group of six, which is perfect here since the whole concept is built around sharing plates.
We started with a couple orders of the focaccia with cheddar & spicy oil (a must), then moved on to the broccoli spätzle with labneh & pistachios, the butternut squash with sheep feta, balsamic vinaigrette & pecans, the cod croquettes with spicy mayo, & the shrimp skewers with satay, Brussels sprouts, & ginger.
For mains, we shared a couple of orders of the flank steak with burnt chili salsa, Szechuan pepper sauce, & pickled peppers, along with the chicken wings with jerk sauce, caramelized onion chutney, & scallions, & the zucchini with chicken skin, hot honey, & pickled lemon.
Everything was delicious including the wine. Great service & energy in the room. All in all a really good night.
Food & service were outstanding. I can understand why this is a Michelin Guide creative food recommendation. Dishes are offered tapas style & everything we tried was exceptional. The squid was by far our favorite & I would skip the broccoli & spaetzel. We had to order the focaccia to enjoy the rest of the sauce but the dipping sauce with the focaccia was also delectable. I will definitely be back to try more dishes.
Food & service was on par for Michelin bib.
Some details:
- miso sauce on the black cod overpowered the fish which was itself perfectly cooked,
- focaccia was excellent but the sauce was weirdly paired & like a Piri piri flavour,
- croquettes were tender/no filler 👍
I enjoyed a fairly quick & also satisfying meal at Cadet. The service was quick & very personable. The staff had asked specifically if I was heading to a performance or not so that they could put a rush on my dishes if needed. I settled on the focaccia bread, the zucchini starter, & the cod. Everything was absolutely delicious! Delicious! The only thing for me was that it did feel quite rushed & even with me sitting at the bar, it's didn't feel as cozy or as friendly as I had hoped.
For being so expensive, the food kinda misses the mark. We got the beet salad, focaccia, the croquettes, the beef tartare & the lamb. Over all things were okay but the attention to details was missing. About half the lamb piece was fat which was kinda disappointing. The croquettes came with a sauce which was a little tasteless. Same with the sauce that came with the focaccia. We got a chocolate tart for dessert & it was okay. Not too bad. Can't go wrong with peanut butter & chocolate. The drinks were nice but the attention to detail was missing. Eg no cherries for old fashioneds. Like I get it different places make it different but if it's in the classic recipe & we're ordering a classic drink... would be nice to just include it in the drink. The service was wonderful & fast :)
