The scallops were delicious, the flank steak was mediocre. But the service was atrocious. It was slow, it took the waiter over 30 minutes to take our order after we arrived. The drinks came out long after the food despite being ordered far in advance. My wife does not like raisins & asked if it was in the bread pudding. The waiter said no. When the bread pudding came out, not only were there lots of raisins, they were giant. She couldn't eat the dessert. When we told the waiter, he said sorry but didn't offer to replace it with another dessert or remove it from the bill. We ended up paying for a dessert she didn't eat due to the waiter's error that was not rectified. There are much better places to eat that will cost you less.
One of my favorite meals - we were blown away by all the flavors & textures. We ordered the oysters, focaccia, asparagus (amazing!!) & lamb. Our server helped us narrow down the right wine selection as well. Every bite up until dessert was perfection. What a great spot!
Beautiful dining experience at Cadet! The food & service were impeccable. We were served by Zoe (for the second time) & she is amazing with very kind, patient, & informative service. All of the staff had great demeanours despite the dining room being very busy.
10/10 cocktails, wine list, food (the seafood dishes are mental, & always get whatever's on special), & dessert
Looking forward to my next visit!
For being so expensive, the food kinda misses the mark. We got the beet salad, focaccia, the croquettes, the beef tartare & the lamb. Over all things were okay but the attention to details was missing. About half the lamb piece was fat which was kinda disappointing. The croquettes came with a sauce which was a little tasteless. Same with the sauce that came with the focaccia. We got a chocolate tart for dessert & it was okay. Not too bad. Can't go wrong with peanut butter & chocolate. The drinks were nice but the attention to detail was missing. Eg no cherries for old fashioneds. Like I get it different places make it different but if it's in the classic recipe & we're ordering a classic drink... would be nice to just include it in the drink. The service was wonderful & fast :)
My new favorite restaurant. Everything is on point & so delicious. Cocktails are the most delicious & strong which is what i like. Service is very attentive & they take personal not seriously. I will definitely go back to try more menu.
P.s. the only thing I should tell others is the dish is quite small. We ordered like 6 dishes + 1 dessert & 2 cocktails & I did not feel so full after & my body size is quite small. So i think u should order at least 3 dishes per person to be full or nearly full.
Found this place in the Michelin Guide. We were told 2 dishes per person would be sufficient, so we ordered 4 dishes plus a focaccia (for 2 people). This order was split into a 2 course serving, both of which took a while to arrive. Unfortunately, all the dishes we ordered turned out to be very small (except for the black cod), so the focaccia was absolutely necessary. I feel they should have recommended 3 dishes per person, as I believe without the focaccia we would have left the restaurant hungry (we didn't take dessert). The quality of the food was great, but the overall experience didn't give me the'wow' factor.
Exceptional Tapas & Wine Pairings at Cadet - A Must in Montreal
Located on Saint-Laurent Boulevard in the heart of Montreal's Quartier des Spectacles, Cadet is a vibrant & stylish restaurant that has earned its place among the Michelin-recommended gems of the city. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between casual & chic, making it ideal for a night out with friends or a pre-show dinner.
The menu features a variety of refined tapas-style plates designed for sharing. The standout for us was the black cod (morue charbonnière)-incredibly tender, beautifully caramelized, & full of delicate flavor. Each dish we tried was thoughtfully presented, with excellent attention to balance & texture.
One of the highlights of the experience was the wine pairing. The selections were expertly matched to each course, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them. It's clear that great care goes into curating both the food & beverage offerings.
For dessert, the chocolate, caramel, & banana tart was simply unforgettable-rich & indulgent without being too heavy.
The service was warm, knowledgeable, & genuinely welcoming. The staff made us feel right at home while guiding us through the menu.
In short, Cadet delivers a polished & memorable dining experience. Highly recommended for food lovers visiting Montreal.
Beautiful spot. We had read that the tables are a bit cramped so we chose to sit at the bar & it was the perfect choice. Lots of elbow room & fun to be up with the action.
We shared the hamachi, beef tartare, black cod & oyster mushrooms, as well as the chocolate tart. All but the hamachi were excellent - particularly the black cod & mushrooms. The hamachi was good, just not at the same level as the other dishes. Perhaps lacking a bit of zing for my taste.
The service was wonderful - attentive, helpful but not too much. The atmosphere is casual & elegant. You'd be as comfortable wearing jeans & a nice shirt as in business casual.
I've read others' negative comments about the size of dishes & have to disagree. We eat at sharing style restaurants quite often & found this to be very much in line -if not a bit more generous than many. Particularly with this level of culinary skill. Teh recommendation was for 4- 5 dishes between 2, & we were very content with just 4. We could have skipped dessert & been content but gave into the temptation & were glad we did!
