Extremely disappointing - not remotely worth the price
After reading the reviews & seeing the restaurant mentioned in the Michelin Guide, I came in expecting a high level of food & service. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in Montreal.
The food was, quite honestly, terrible. Several of the sauces accompanying the dishes were poorly executed. For example, the pepper sauce served with the steak had clearly split, leaving you tasting almost nothing but oil. The zucchini was practically raw, simply grilled & served with a bland, tasteless sauce that added absolutely nothing to the dish.
The jerk wings were probably the biggest disappointment. I genuinely felt like I was being served something from a diner rather than a restaurant charging fine-dining prices. The presentation was also extremely underwhelming.
I could potentially overlook some of these issues if the prices reflected the quality, but spending over $400 for a meal & leaving hungry because I could barely eat the food is completely unacceptable.
I've eaten at Michelin-starred restaurants, high-end fine-dining establishments, & very casual restaurants, so I'm certainly not expecting every meal to be a fine-dining experience. But when you charge prices at this level, there should be a level of execution & quality to justify them. Here, there simply wasn't.
What I find most surprising is how highly regarded this restaurant seems to be. Based on my experience, nothing - & I mean nothing - was good enough to justify the reputation or the price.
A very disappointing experience, & unfortunately one I would not recommend.
A restaurant deserving of its place on Montreal's BibGourmand.
The fried sea bass was among the better fish dishes I've ever had.
Every other dish was spiced really well. Salt & heat levels were perfect. It felt as though each element of the different dishes served an important purpose, contributing to the enjoyment of the whole. Dishes came out hot, portions were good & the server gave excellemment recommendations through & through.
I hope to be able to eat here again!
Lovely restaurant. Service here was exceptional. They brought us water right away & kept refilling our glasses regularly. They also took our order promptly. We had the focaccia (which was not real focaccia). It looked more like garlic bread. It was very good nonetheless. I didn't care about the dipping sauce though. We had the calamari & cod. Both dishes were excellent. The portions were just perfect for us. Not too big. In all, we had a great time & would surely come back.
Excellent food. Creative menu. I believe it was Michelin recommended.
Right next to Saint-Laurent metro. Casual vibe but great also for special occasions.
Staff is very nice. It's fun to sit by the window & watch people walk outside. The bar seating seems comfy as well.
Only comment is that it was on the pricier side for what you get. We did not mind & will be back for sure. They change the menu once in a while so its fun to try new dishes.
Big wine list as well.
Everything was spot on. Fantastic vibe, 5/5 dishes (black cod is a must!) & the cocktails are top tier. Great experience sitting at the bar, chatting, & having straight-line view of the kitchen.
The food was amazing. Everything we tried was spectacular. We had the cod, calamari, steak & potatoes, cheesecake & every one of those dishes was packed with flavor & cooked perfectly.
Even the salads, which were very good on their own, felt a little underwhelming compared to the hot dishes just because everything else was that outstanding.
My only comment is that dishes are so rich & intensely flavorful that, after a while, I found myself wishing there was something more neutral, like bread or rice, to balance everything out. Otherwise, your taste buds are getting hit from every direction all at once.
That said, the food was absolutely delicious, & I'd happily come back.
Excellent by-the-bottle wine program & better than average by-the-glass program. They had a decent variety of vegetarian items but only in the small plates section of the menu; nevertheless every bite made my tastebuds happy. I was worried that I wasnt going to be full because the portions looked on the small side, but I left satisfied & the food wasn't heavy or salty or weighing me down. Fresh plates between courses, clean counterspace maintenance, & no empty dishes cluttering our dining surface. The schnitzel was a particular favorite.
So so magically delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes & tried a couple of drinks each & every single one amazed. I will be thinking about that miso black cod FOREVER. I highly recommend getting the oysters, their house sauce pairs very well with them. The service was absolutely lovely & very accommodating. I docked a point for atmosphere just because it was a bit too loud at times. Well worth the visit!
