Maybe the server wasn't interested but overall it was a miss. Did basically a repeat of the last experience & found everything to be very middle of the road. The drinks were ok but didn't wow like the last time. The tartare was the standout of the dinner & really hit the spot. Moving to the marrow & escargot everything was perfectly cooked & well seasoned. The gnocchi was good & the peas were perfectly crisp with a nice balanced sauce. The bouillabaisse was also good. Perfectly cooked & balanced well also. Portions were massive & we left a lot on the plates. I would probably go back again as this time was pretty lackluster. Maybe it was an off night. I absolutely loved Brasserie 701. Seated quickly & started with drinks. A Cosmo & Capitaine Rubis were a start. The Rubis was really a fantastic cocktail, well balanced & that last taste of maple was really the best part. I'm not a maple fan but that cocktail is something everyone should try. I tried 3 if that's any indication of it's quality. Next up the Escargot & Beef Tartare. The escargot was perfectly cooked, well-seasoned & better than expected. As good as any I've previously experienced. A fantastic order. The tartare was really fantastic too. It's one of those dishes that really should be something you order. We chose a trou normand & the sorbet was quite refreshing. I think that's more of a take it or leave it but we enjoyed ours. The main course: I chose the risotto with lobster tail & my companion chose the lamb shank. Both were perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked & a great portion. The gnocchi with the lamb was the best surprise of the meal. Perfect density & that sweetness was just right. It was a fantastic meal that I'd rate among the best places that I've eaten at. dessert was the creme brulee & a cafe au lait. The bitterness of the coffee & the sweet creme brulee hit so perfectly in balance I have never been so happy to order dessert. Service was great. Very attentive, not rushed at all but the timings were perfect. I felt like our server was excellent & a true professional. The environment is really nice for dining. It's about the right lighting although I needed a light to read the menu. But I'm old so it is what it is. The volume is surprisingly good for conversation. The price is amazing. In the US I have paid 3X for similar quality food. I'll be eating here every time I'm in Montreal. It's a staple dining establishment.
Had the best time at 701! We were in Montreal for a girls trip & stumbled upon this gem for brunch. Our server, Melissa, made the experience 10x better. The drinks, food & atmosphere were impeccable. Truly had the best burger I've ever eaten. Would recommend to anybody visiting Montreal.
Soooo disappointed. Unfortunately a large conference group invaded the restaurant/bar just after we arrived for drinks & they were so loud, my wife & I had to yell to each other across a small table. We explained the situation, he nodded in agreement then proceeded to identify a table thst was even worse. We ask about some unoccupied tables & we're told they were reserved. This was 630pm, when we left at 840pm, that group of tables was still unoccupied. Really? That really ruined the dinner all by itself & was nit accommodating at all. Server spologized again. We wanted wine & they have a good wine list but only 3 red choices & 3 white choices...really subpar. Server agreed & apologized yet again. But we made do. Half a dozen oysters & minimal condiments - again, totally unexpected. Another apology. We had lamb & fish entrees, both cold...prepared nicely but stone cold. He didn't apologize because he was no where to be found. But he did apologize when he cleared the dishes. About 20 minutes later, he reappeared & asked if we wanted dessert...by that point, we need to escape asap. We were hotel guests & that service reflected really poorly on the Hotel D'Armes. There was nothing remotely redeeming about 701.
Saturday May 29th 6:30 PM - We had a reservation, but we had to wait almost 30 minutes for our table. The staff is very friendly & helpful. We really had a great time. Our waiter "Gavin" was awesome. The food was extremely tasty, the charcuterie board & the beef flank steak were absolutely amazing. We loved it so much & our drinks were perfect. The only reason why I gave 4/5 is because we could only stay a maximum of 2 hours at our table, which is totally fair, but we were a little bit rushed into paying once we were done eating, even though we were still waiting for 2 more drinks. When we received our drinks, the bill came & we had to chug our drinks, pay & leave. I felt like they did not take into consideration the fact that we waited almost 30 minutes for our table & it took almost 1h to receive our appetizers & 20 to 30 minutes to receive our drinks. It is not the fastest service but overall it was a fantastic night. Thank you!
Went in for brunch & inside was nice but outside of that I wouldn't have much good to say. My wife & I ordered coffee & our food, our drinks came right away but the food took about 40 minutes to come out. Ordered eggs Benedict & a simple "2 eggs any style" & everything was overcooked & dry. We figured that because we were staying at the hotel that we were getting served last before the guests but it wasn't even that busy so I don't understand why it took so long. Maybe just a bad day for them, & I completely understand that but I wouldn't recommend going there for brunch. Plenty of other amazing places that won't disappoint.
Everyone loved the food. I had the filet mignon & was very happy with it. The down side for is was how long it took. I think they maybe they didn't get it placed correctly because others around us got there for in a reasonable time. Also took a long time to get drinks.
Nice place right next to Notre Dame. Limited menu of French inspiration. Food was delicious, Chef doing a very good job. Service lacking a bit, it wasn't very busy & still took a while to get the drinks (& too much for the refills). The snail soup was very filling, but could use some more flavor. The cheese platter was great & everything else was very good.
Pros : great coffee & biscuit, service was great. Cons : Our ustensils & especially the water glass smelled like eggs it was impossible to drink water / the smoked salmon was not fresh my friend had to put it aside
Delicious food, drinks & an amazing ambience! Thank you Paula for fantastic service 💗💗 You were amazing & so helpful!
A beautiful spot for brunch & drinks. Paula provided excellent service.
I came here for a weekday dinner & the restaurant was almost full when I arrived. I got lucky that I had a reservation. It's located perfectly within walking distance from both Notre Dame & old port. I really liked the vibe; many groups were enjoying their food, drinks or dessert. The staff are helpful & friendly. I originally came in for an appetizer, but the dessert menu was so attractive that I decided to go with appetizer & dessert. I got lucky that they weren't out of escargot. So I tried "Escargot in Parsley Sauce" after my complementary bread & butter. I really like the combination of parsley sauce with olives & puff pastry. I also enjoyed "Rocher Praliné" for my dessert. I'm happy I hadn't had my main course as it is very rich.
Amazing experience at Brasserie 701! I came for brunch & the food & drinks were fantastic.

Nous avons reçu un service incroyable de la part de notre serveur Shady au bar, les drinks, la nourriture ainsi que l'ambiance était vraiment parfaite!
Un décor fabuleux & très bien mangé! De bons p'tits drinks aussi!
Me & my fiancée went here during the brunch the food was spectacular the eggs Benedict & the chicken & waffles was amazing, they had really good mayo it was on the sweet side & i wanted to take some home, the bartender i forgot his name but he was asian, served me & my fiancée the best drinks which were the Canadian coffee & the signature tequila sunrise, he really is passionate about his job & it is hard to find in new york who is as passionate as he is. Definitely will come back here in the future
We visited Brasserie 701 on January third & were greeted & seated by Gavin who also became our waiter for the evening. We chose to sit at a high top in the center of the restaurant which gave us a great view of the bar & dining room. Drinks for the ladies were Paloma's, delicious I am told & I chose a glass of the house Champagne, also delicious. For mains we ordered the 701 Burger, the Magret de Canard & a Bavette de Boeuf accompanied by a nice bottle of Minervois Audere 2019, everything was excellent. For dessert we shared the Chocolate Truffle & I enjoyed the recommended Armagnac. We had a fantastic, memorable evening at Brasserie 701, the restaurant looks great inside & out. Gavin, our server for the evening made us feel at home with a friendly & professional service. We are looking forward to returning soon.
