The reception was welcoming & our waiter was excellent & super friendly, really fun to talk to, & helpful with ordering, he was the highlight of the night. The wine was also very good.
Dinner overall was good. The steak was enjoyable, though not outstanding. The biggest disappointment was the salads ordered. Despite some effort in presentation, the ingredients
/mix felt basic & lacked flavor. They were easily the weakest part of the meal, also some item was sold out, having special menu & not having enough. You know
One staff member who refilled our water & cleared plates seemed visibly irritated & handled dishes quite roughly. It didn't ruin the evening, but the display was noticeable.
Overall, the service from our waiter was great, dinner & wine were good, but the salads need improvement. I expected a bit more from the experience, though I still appreciate the effort
What an amazing place! Elegant, relaxing, & perfect for brunch or lunch. The brunch selection is fantastic, with so many great options to choose from. The staff are outstanding, especially Melissa she truly made our visit unforgettable! She walked us through the menu with so much detail & helped us pick the perfect wine. Our whole group had an incredible time, & we can't wait to come back again!
We tried this restaurant during the MTLaTable event, & honestly it was a disappointment among all the restaurants we tried during the event period. The food selection was mid, & the taste was mediocre at best. Everything tasted salty & the food served wasn't warm. Service was decent with a good selection of wine, but the food at dinner service was a major let down.
I had dinner with my fiancée at this French restaurant at the end of April. Of course, this might be my first time to eat French food. We sat down, & the waitress brought the menu. I ordered a lobster meal, & I also seemed very experienced to help my fiancée order a steak meal. I didn't want to order wine, but because I took a photo & posted it on the social platform, a friend immediately sent me a private message saying that why eat French food without wine? ! Well, I had to order 2 glasses of wine.
The waitress brought a bottle of wine & scared me. I thought I only ordered two glasses of wine, but she gave me a bottle. I remembered that a bottle of wine on the menu cost hundreds bucks. I thought, is this a black shop, trying to blackmail me? I said I only ordered two glasses of wine, & she said'yes.............', I didn't hear what she said clearly, & then she poured some wine into my glass, & I suddenly remembered that someone told me some ways to eat Western food before. They said that the first glass of unknown liquid that the waiter gave you before eating Western food is for rinsing your mouth, not for drinking. You have to rinse your mouth & spit it out. Now I understood that she wanted me to rinse my mouth with wine, so I picked up the wine & started to rinse my mouth.
Fortunately, my fiancée spoke at this time. She said that the waitress wanted you to taste the wine. This sentence saved my life. I quickly raised the glass & said it was good, good wine. Everything went well. I looked a little red, but I think it was probably because of the strong alcohol, not because I almost used wine to rinse my mouth & spit it out?
Finally, I found that the steak meal I ordered for my fiancée was good, but my lobster meal was too small & not enough. My fiancée was full of energy after eating that night, & I felt a little weak that night. I shouldn't have ordered the lobster meal. This is worth noting.
We had crab cake & scallops as starters, the crab cake was pretty good. For the main, the fish was very nice, while the duck breast looked very good, but it was very chewy. Both desserts were unspectacular, very disappointed. A glass of wine cost $30, which was bit excessive. The bill came much more than $200 for 2 people. For the price the food was underwhelming.
If you think duck confit with pears poached in maple syrup is a good idea for a truly Canadian version of Eggs Benedict for brunch, then run to Brasserie 701 in Montréal! Sonia was our vivacious server but truly the whole team deserves an ensemble Academy Award. The 701 staff are the nicest people on the planet! You can also try the margret duck breasts for dinner, served on mashed carrots in maple syrup. Apple wine a must! GO!
Great place just as you enter Old Montréal near the basilica. Food was excellent, ingredients are fresh & the portions are just the right amount. Good selection of wines & cocktails. Ambiance was good, it was not overly crowded, however, it was a very rainy evening, so there were just less people out & about. Overall a great experience.
We came to enjoy a late night glass of wine...& also was able to order some veggies...
Wait staff was amazing!!!
My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. The restaurant is very upscale Brasserie but still has a light & easy atmosphere. We had escargot with bone marrow & foie gras to start, both were delicious & well prepared. For our mains we had steak frites & the duck confit, both were very good. Our waiter Gavin was a great balance between formal & friendly & help make our night a totally pleasurable evening. Wine list is good with a decent selection in all categories.
Had a delightful meal with a colleague. Interior was beautiful & Gavin was warm & attentive. He helped us with wine pairings & gave us tastings to be sure. Food was great & the overall experience was excellent.
WOW. We enjoyed a small Christmas party here & the service was very friendly, the food amazing, excellent wine options, lovely atmosphere, a little pricy....
Gorgeous setting facing the edge of the cathedral square. Had a great wine selection, food was delicious, & service was good. Uber dropped us off at the intersection just a few steps from the door. DEFINITELY get a reservation. This place is extremely busy but worth it.
3 people 1 app 2 glasses wine 3 dinners ~ $400 w tip. Just seemed over priced. Basic steak house
Soooo disappointed. Unfortunately a large conference group invaded the restaurant/bar just after we arrived for drinks & they were so loud, my wife & I had to yell to each other across a small table. We explained the situation, he nodded in agreement then proceeded to identify a table thst was even worse. We ask about some unoccupied tables & we're told they were reserved. This was 630pm, when we left at 840pm, that group of tables was still unoccupied. Really? That really ruined the dinner all by itself & was nit accommodating at all. Server spologized again. We wanted wine & they have a good wine list but only 3 red choices & 3 white choices...really subpar. Server agreed & apologized yet again. But we made do. Half a dozen oysters & minimal condiments - again, totally unexpected. Another apology. We had lamb & fish entrees, both cold...prepared nicely but stone cold. He didn't apologize because he was no where to be found. But he did apologize when he cleared the dishes. About 20 minutes later, he reappeared & asked if we wanted dessert...by that point, we need to escape asap. We were hotel guests & that service reflected really poorly on the Hotel D'Armes. There was nothing remotely redeeming about 701.
We were a party of 4 & had dinner at Brasserie 701 last Friday night before going to the Aura light show at Notre Dame Basilica across the street. We were greeted with friendly & attentive wait staff. Also food came out pretty quickly. The quality of the food exceeded our expectations with good portion & the price was very reasonable. I ordered moules frites & there were lots of mussels. The white wine sauce was flavorful. Everything was good & we enjoyed the dinner very much.
Nice atmosphere & based on the architecture it looks as though it was formerly a bank. Would make a good night club venue. Food was so-so & very overpriced. Many of the items on the menu were "sold out" the night that I visited for dinner. Service was good & the wine selection was fairly extensive Repeat ? Not worth it
This was my first time ever in Montreal, & in Canada! My friend recommended this restaurant, & I was absolutely impressed !!! Our server was Florence, & from the very beginning to the very end, she took such great care of me & my friend!!! She brought our food quickly, recommended me a red wine to have with my main course (it was perfect with my steak), & she made us feel so welcomed at this restaurant! Brasserie 701 is very lucky to have Florence on their team!!!
Great experience. Food & wine was lovely, & our server, Gavin, was amazing. He was super funny & we had some great chats with him, & he was knowledgeable about the menu & wines. We were visiting on vacation, but 10/10 would return if we go back to Montreal!
I'm giving the restaurant a low rating not because the food isn't good or the atmosphere lousy. After receiving our bill I asked the waitress "is the $37.00 for a glass of wine", maybe I should have asked how much a glass of wine was but the waitress wasn't transparent either. After speaking to the manager we received tbe standard response. We like the place but obvious these prices are for American tourists, we won't be returning.
Food was ok but they shared us 37$ a glass of wine. They substituted the wine we wanted by something else. Never told us the price. We called back later & got attitude. They said it was a large glass of wine. We could have ordered 2 smaller ones for cheaper.
