We were 3 couples & we were trying out the'Happening Gourmand' menu for $49. We were warmly greeted & seated at our table. Our waiter Kenny was excellent. He was efficient & attentive. The decor of the restaurant is very appealing & had former bank vibes. The washrooms need a deep clean & a slight refresh but are well equipped. With the Happening Gourmand menu, you get a choice of soup or salad. One person took the soup & said it was delicious. The rest of us took the spinach salad. It was good but was heavy on the salt. The dressing was yummy. My wife & I took the braised beef cheek & despite the plates arriving covered with stainless steel lids to our table, the food was almost cold. Once again, the beef jus reduction sauce was on the salty side & the beef cheek was on the dry side & not as tender as it should have been both being braised & a cut of beef which is usually very tender. Plating was also ordinary & lacked any creative/artistic appeal. All in all the meal was decent but lacked culinary finesse. The service & decor definitely add to the experience.

Elle a été très gentille, attentive & professionnelle tout au long du brunch. Son accueil & son attitude ont vraiment rendu notre expérience encore plus agréable. We spent Valentine's Day at Brasserie 701, & it was the absolute highlight of our evening in the Old Port. The atmosphere was perfectly romantic, but what truly set the night apart was the incredible team taking care of us.
A massive shoutout to Shady & Felix behind the bar, their service was impeccable. They were attentive, fast, & added a great energy to the night while making sure every detail was handled. It's rare to find staff that can balance a busy holiday crowd with such genuine, personalized care, but the entire team here made it look easy.
As for the food: the Filet Mignon was cooked to absolute perfection, incredibly tender & flavorful. We also had the Duck Entree, which was rich, beautifully presented, & easily one of the best dishes we've had in a long time.
If you're looking for a spot that combines a stunning historic setting with top-tier service & a menu that delivers, this is it. Thank you, Shady & Felix, for making our Valentine's Day so memorable. We'll definitely be back!

Had a brunch recently at brasserie 701 in old Montreal. Elegant & beautiful decor with a very welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious & beautifully presented. The staff at the restaurant were very attentive. I'll definitely be back.
Our visit to Brasserie 701 started off on a sour note. Right from the beginning, our server, Mathilde (name on our bill, as she did not introduce herself), was quite rude when we mentioned we had an extra guest joining. The restaurant hadn't picked up the phone any of the times we called, so we couldn't inform them in advance, & she made it clear she wasn't happy about the change. That set a really uncomfortable tone.
Mathilde's rudeness wasn't just a one-time thing. She was condescending when we asked for five extra minutes to order at 6:55 (reservation was at 6:45), made snarky comments when we requested more bread after making us wait one hour after the first bread was served, & didn't listen at all when we tried to explain that our steaks were incorrect & why they were incorrect. Mathilde responded with visible impatience & rudeness. She rolled her eyes, made snide remarks, & generally didn't set a welcoming tone the entire time she was serving us.
We ended up waiting over two hours before actually getting our food. Naturally, asking for some extra bread just to hold us over didn't mean Mathilde could be pretty snarky about it & didn't need to make it clear that bread wasn't unlimited & basically treating us like we were asking for something unreasonable. The entire table was left wondering what was the cause of this mistreatment. As the table was full of young professionals, we decided that it was not okay for anyone to go through this & this ended up hitting a nerve after multiple disrespectful actions coming from the server. I requested a manager to take control of the situation & find us a new server just after my steak was wrong for a second time.
On the positive side, once it became clear that things were really not going well, especially after I received two steaks in a row that were cooked wrong (I ordered medium-rare & got well-done twice, & two other guests also got the wrong doneness) the manager, William JF, stepped in. He was truly kind & attentive, took over the table, & really tried to help us out after all the chaos. Thanks to him, we at least felt like someone was on our side & was listening & trying to make things right.
However, by the end of the night, even with his help, the experience just didn't fully recover. Although he credited the steaks & was willing to give me something else besides the steak, I truly was already without appetite by that point in the night. I just ate what I consider sacrilegious (a well-done steak, hard to cut, hard to chew, tasted like burned) that I didn't order because he suggested I change the plate. While William did his best to help & credited the dish, the overall experience never recovered from how poorly the service & the cooking were handled.
We were left waiting far too long for our meals, & the initial rudeness & mix-ups really overshadowed what should have been a nice dinner. In short, while we appreciated the manager's efforts, the evening ended up being more frustrating than enjoyable. The minimum respect expected was not received. We wondered if we did something wrong & felt like we were walking on eggshells around the initial server. While we were thanking her with a lot of kindness, she was responding with a lot of negativity. This is not the experience we had in mind when choosing this place to eat.
I personally have been to many different restaurants & have visited this restaurant for brunch on previous occasions, & I have never been treated this way before. Neither at the lowest nor the highest type of restaurants ever before. This speaks volume.
Had such a great experience at Brasserie 701 thanks to Melissa. She was warm, attentive, & made our meal feel really special. She checked in at all the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. She even fixed our wobbly table
Melissa's friendly, professional vibe truly elevated the whole afternoon. Highly recommend asking for her if you stop by Brasserie 701!

We had fantastic experience at this restaurant in Montreal-the food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm & welcoming, & the service truly stood out. Our server, Melissa, was absolutely amazing: friendly, attentive, & knowledgeable, she made the entire meal feel special with her thoughtful recommendations & genuine care. I'd definitely return & highly recommend asking for Melissa if you want an exceptional dining experience

We had an incredible experience at Brasserie 701, thanks to Mellisa, who truly made our evening exceptional. From the moment we sat down, she went above & beyond to make us feel welcome & taken care of. She had the perfect balance of professionalism & warmth - friendly, attentive, & genuinely invested in making sure everything was perfect.
The food was outstanding, every dish came out beautifully presented & full of flavor, & the drinks were just as impressive. Mellisa's recommendations were spot on, & her attention to detail really made the night feel special.
It's rare to find service this genuine & thoughtful. We left not only full but smiling, already talking about when we can come back again. A big thank you to Mellisa & the entire team at Brasserie 701 for making it such a memorable experience!
Melissa was an absolute joy. She was knowledgeable about the menu & was so attentive. The menu was delicious- I had the steak frites & it was amazing. Love the atmosphere. We will come back when in Montreal again!

I came for lunch at Brasserie 701 & had the poulet rôti - so tasty & perfectly cooked! The ambiance was welcoming & the service really stood out. Carla & Melissa were both so kind & attentive, which made my first visit extra special. I'll definitely be coming back!
