Review Summary

Reviews depict Boulangerie Cheskie as a bright, clean, old school kosher bakery with a wide, appealing range of Jewish pastries and breads, where the chocolate babka and cheese crowns are repeatedly praised as standout items and the place is seen as a must visit in Montreal, often accompanied by long lines that reflect its popularity. Prices are generally described as reasonable for the quality, and staff are noted as friendly and efficient in many visits, though some reviews mention occasional unfriendly service or language barriers. The space and energy are described as welcoming, with mentions of a newer modern location, busy crowds, and limited seating. While many desserts are described as rich, sweet, and indulgent, a few items are noted to be overly sweet or doughy or not as fresh in rare cases, but overall the babka, cheese crowns, rugelach, cheesecake, challah and other pastries are celebrated as among the best, making it a standout stop for traditional Jewish baked goods in the city.

The moment you step into this bakery, the warm aroma of butter, sugar, & freshly baked bread instantly sets the tone. Everything on display looks inviting, clearly made with care & a passion for quality. The bread is exceptional while the croissants are perfectly flaky, light, & rich with buttery layers.
The sweet treats are just as memorable. Cakes are moist & balanced, cookies have crisp edges with soft centers, & fruit tarts taste fresh & vibrant. Even the simplest pastries feel special, thanks to excellent ingredients & expert baking.
Beyond the food, the atmosphere is cozy & welcoming. The staff are friendly, attentive, & genuinely enthusiastic about what they serve. This bakery is more than a stop for pastries; it's a comforting experience that leaves you satisfied & eager to return.

Was wowed by the babka (much messier than more chocolate-y than supermarket babka) & challah. Had some cheesecake like pastries that were also good

My wife & I discovered a sweet slice of heaven while we were exploring Rue Bernard in Outremont named, Boulangerie Cheskie. This small bakery was full of customers patiently waiting to be served by the friendly staff behind the counter. There was a huge variety of baked goods & pastries to choose from, but our biggest problem was trying not to buy everything in the store because it all looked so delicious. We finally settled on some eye-catching Cheese Muffins & a decadent Chocolate Babka. These delicacies were absolutely scrumptious & we will definitely be returning for some more heavenly delights.

There's magic being made in that kitchen. I've been going for years & not only do they never disappoint, but they exceed expectations. The pastries are top drawer. I'm partial to the cheese crowns, but it really is l'embarras du choix as I wait to order. The onion crackers have always proved a hit, too. Whenever I have brought them to a gathering, everyone just kept returning additively for more. Montreal is very lucky to have Cheskie. But, now that I heard how Trump's victory was celebrated by free cookies to customers, I will not be going back.

This was a last stop on the way home from a visit to Montreal, & it was worth the detour. Got some pastries to eat on the road & all were excellent. Poppy seed rugelach, raspberry hamantaschen, & a black & white. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Montreal.

The absolute best babka on the planet. There's a lineup for a reason & it's worth every single minute of waiting. Pastries are fresh & delicious, the cheesecake crowns are to die for, & their chocolate rugellach is out of this world. Actually, everything there is delicious! Looking forward to the holidays just for their honey cake. It's the best I've ever had. Does not disappoint ever!

Excellent pastries BUT very noisy (an old working machine with a noisy working fan). Small store. You might have to wait outside. One of the saleslady had zero patience with several customers before me. I am glad someone else served me.
