Highly suggest getting'at least' 1 of each to try! Super fast, in & out kind of place.
Get the chocolate babka & then cottage cheese one or cottage cheese crowns.
It's not a fine patisserie, but they are good at what they specialize. Babkas are top!
Was craving babka & this bakery was surprisingly still open in the evening. We got the babka loaf, a chocolate cheesecake muffin, & a rectangular cheesecake piece in the fridge section. The babka was pretty good, although I personally prefer the fragrance of the Montreal Kosher Bakery's one. The other desserts were just basic, mostly only tasting sweet. Service was just ok, employees were speaking Spanish to each other & not that friendly.
The bakery itself is in a very bright & modern looking space.
Just like in Seinfeld their chocolate bubka is worth stealing from an old lady, best in the city & in their new digs even more room to see their selection.
The chocolate covered cheesecake was 10/10 for us. We haven't had time to try the rest, but we bought 3 mini cheesecakes, 2 large cookies, a big loaf of brown bread & a large chocolate cone filled with whipped cream $23 very reasonable imho
Was wowed by the babka (much messier than more chocolate-y than supermarket babka) & challah. Had some cheesecake like pastries that were also good
Amazing kosher iconic bakery. Chocolate babka & mini chocolate cheesecakes are mouth watering. Challahs & rum balls are so yummy. Not to be missed!
My wife & I discovered a sweet slice of heaven while we were exploring Rue Bernard in Outremont named, Boulangerie Cheskie. This small bakery was full of customers patiently waiting to be served by the friendly staff behind the counter. There was a huge variety of baked goods & pastries to choose from, but our biggest problem was trying not to buy everything in the store because it all looked so delicious. We finally settled on some eye-catching Cheese Muffins & a decadent Chocolate Babka. These delicacies were absolutely scrumptious & we will definitely be returning for some more heavenly delights.
Lines are long for a good reason. Their cheese crowns & chocolate bubka in particular, are beyond description.
Their chocolate babka & flakey chocolate danish were both delicious!
Experiência maravilhosa! Recomendo a todos que amam um excelente doce! Meu predileto fois a Babka de chocolate! Mas a coroa de queijo e a cheesecake ganharam meu coraçao! Voltarei com certeza!
This is by far our favourite bakery in Montreal. It was an awesome experience bringing Chris'The Babka King' in for some delicious treats. We tried a lot of different desserts. The one that is our absolute favourite is the Chocolate Russian Babka.
I adore old-world bakeries & have several favorites all over the country. I stumbled on Cheskie, & it smelled heavenly inside, & I felt like I had hit the jackpot! I bought $30 worth of goodies (which buys you a lot here), & I was giddy to try them all. I truly wanted to love this place, but the truth is, I ended up throwing away every single item after a couple bites (except one-the jam sandwich cookie was marvelous). Everything was kind of flavorless, & their black-&-white cookie wasn't even as good as the ones you can buy at grocery stores in New York. Their chocolate babka really broke my heart, it was so doughy in the center we had to throw out the whole loaf. :(
I visited this morning & had to leave a review. The quality of food was amazing. This was the first time I have tried chocolate babka & was blown away. It was rich, chocolatey, sweet. I honestly want to head back up there before I leave Montreal to bring some back home to Toronto.
I will return someday. This was on my list of places to visit in Montreal & it definitely did not disappoint.
This bakery is a gem for their authentic chocolate Babka. Truly amazing.
One of the best experiences we had in Quebec. This bakery is famous for its mini & large babkes, especially the chocolate ones. They are spectacular, made of melt in your mouth layers of pastry & rich chocolate, decadent & delicious
It has definitely earned its moniker as a local institution. The crowns are second to none & the chocolate babka is a must have. Most of what they make here is pretty good. I've had some issues with being sold a box full of stale rogolach & cannoli. I also witnessed a bearded man get harassed in store by a different client & he was not reprimanded nor was the victim offered anything as compensation, the staff pretended like it was not happening.
Best bakery in Montreal Let me specify. The donuts & the babka. The donuts: For my personal taste, simplicity is best. Which seems like an easy obstacle to overcome, but this isn't the case. Most donut shops produce a donut that is too oily, to sweet, not crispy, too much of a cake texture. This is not the case for the cheskie chocolate donut. It makes me think of the New York classic chocolate glaze donut. Simple, crispy exterior, soft & gooey interior the perfect blend. The chocolate glaze actually tastes like chocolate. & the thickness of the glaze is sufficient. The babka A unique & tasty treat. I read some of the other reviews here indicating the sweetness. It's a fact. They are very sweet, rich, dense, & delicious. I brought the babka to my Christmas dinner & they were a hit, & you don't need so much to quench that sweet tooth. So yeah technically very sweet, but you just can't or shouldn't eat too much of it. Anyway, taste for yourself
