We went there for supper on a Thursday evening. There wasn't a lineup, so we asked for a table for two. We were told the wait would be about 15 minutes, which was perfectly fine.
I then asked if we could sit at the bar & have a drink while waiting for our table. To my surprise, we were told that if we sat at the bar, we would have to remain there, even if a table became available.
I politely asked how that made sense, considering we were already customers & would be purchasing drinks while we waited. The response was that they needed to prioritize people who walked in looking for a table.
As someone who owned & operated a restaurant for 15 years, I found this policy very difficult to understand. If a customer is already in your restaurant spending money, why wouldn't you move them to a table when one becomes available? You never know who that customer is or how much they may end up spending. We could have easily ordered an $80 bottle of wine & a $300 meal.
We decided to stay & eat at the bar. The food was okay, but unfortunately the first impression & the way we were welcomed left a negative impression that affected the overall experience.
Just some constructive feedback from a local NGDer. I hope management reconsiders this policy, because it doesn't seem to put the customer first.
Food was amazing! The pasta was fresh, creamy & delicious. Wine was good as well. The pasta comes with a salad that was really good as well. Will definitely come back!
Bistro Amerigo is hands down one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city. The atmosphere on Monkland Avenue is always vibrant, & the interior of the restaurant is cozy & romantic. The homemade pasta dishes are absolutely phenomenal, particularly the pappardelle & the classic carbonara. The wine list is extensive & pairs beautifully with the food. Exceptional service every time.

I discovered this amazing place a few years ago, thanks to a friend. Since then, I have taken friends & family. Today I was there with my two adult sons. It was Easter weekend, so relatively quiet at 13h00. As usual, I was so impressed with the octopus. The only downside was the white wine. Just meh. The tartelette de petits fruits was excellent but the tiramisu was very soupy. Still, kudos to the wait & kitchen staff.
From the first course onward, the meal showed a clear sense of intention, favoring careful execution over unnecessary flair.
We started generously-both a salad & the soup of the day, a comforting minestrone that tasted like my Nonna had made it. That was followed by the two arancini on offer, each distinct & delicious.
For mains, restraint was not part of the plan. We were excited to hear about the off-menu item: crab-stuffed ravioli in a bisque-style sauce. It was rich without being overwhelming. The gorgonzola ravioli delivered a bold, deeply satisfying contrast. Both dishes wowed us thoroughly. Unapologetically indulgent.
A crisp white wine tied everything together beautifully-though sharing the entire bottle between two people turned out to be more of a commitment than expected 😅🍷
Dessert was non-negotiable: tiramisu & cannolo, both because you can't leave without trying them 🤷?♂?
The ambiance is inviting, the menu thoughtfully curated, & the service genuinely attentive. If it's been on your list, consider this a gentle nudge to finally make the visit. But, bring your appetite because you will be seriously full after this 😜
Authentic Italian, wines that are not found anywhere in the city. A truly Italian experience in Montreal with a very humble home feeling. Recommended 100% 5 stats +++
Amerigo on Monkland is a true neighborhood gem. The vibe felt straight out of New York-busy & lively, but still easy to chat. The ossobuco with saffron risotto was outstanding & instantly brought me back to Italy, while the tiramisu was the perfect finish. Great wine list with fair prices (loved the Aglianico!), & the service was excellent. They don't take reservations, but the wait was short & the stroll around the area made it even better. Can't wait to go back & try more dishes!
it's now a NDG staple.classic Italian bistro. with great food & good selection of private reserve wines from Italy.
the team is great been dozens of times never a bad experience!
Finally-a truly refreshing Italian restaurant that dares to be different! Unique dishes like the Sardinian ragù set the tone for an exciting menu. Everything was executed to perfection: bursting with flavour, beautifully textured, & artfully presented. The ingredients were clearly fresh, & the service? Exceptionally warm & knowledgeable. Add to that a fantastic wine list featuring both classics & intriguing lesser-known varietals, & you've got yourself a genuinely lovely dining experience.
