This restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The service was attentive without feeling rushed, & the staff checked in often enough that we always had what we needed.
We tried a wide range of dishes. For appetizers, we had the Polpette di Amerigo, Insalata di Polpo, & Mozzarella di Bufala. For pastas, we shared the Pappardelle Bolognese & Cavatelli Barese, & we also ordered the Costata di Vitello. It's honestly hard to choose a favorite because everything was cooked well & had great flavor.
We were here about two months ago, & I'm only writing this review now because I've had meatballs at a few other places since then… & nothing even comes close. Amerigo's meatballs are hands-down the best I've had at any restaurant.
If you're thinking about stopping by, do it. This place is a must-visit.
Amerigo on Monkland is a true neighborhood gem. The vibe felt straight out of New York-busy & lively, but still easy to chat. The ossobuco with saffron risotto was outstanding & instantly brought me back to Italy, while the tiramisu was the perfect finish. Great wine list with fair prices (loved the Aglianico!), & the service was excellent. They don't take reservations, but the wait was short & the stroll around the area made it even better. Can't wait to go back & try more dishes!
Bistro Amerigo is okay. The veal meatballs were the highlight of the meal. Although they were not exceptional, the tomato sauce was rich in flavor & the veal was pretty good. The squid ink pasta could have been better; the sauce had too much oil, & lacked depth in flavor. The complementary salad was nice & refreshing. I do feel, however, that the service could have been much better. Our waiter was a little rude & condescending. We did not feel heard, not welcome. All in all, I recommend this restaurant for the people that are looking for simple italian dishes & a somewhat nice atmosphere.
Finally-a truly refreshing Italian restaurant that dares to be different! Unique dishes like the Sardinian ragù set the tone for an exciting menu. Everything was executed to perfection: bursting with flavour, beautifully textured, & artfully presented. The ingredients were clearly fresh, & the service? Exceptionally warm & knowledgeable. Add to that a fantastic wine list featuring both classics & intriguing lesser-known varietals, & you've got yourself a genuinely lovely dining experience.
Solid Italian in NDG, probably the best in the neighborhood. We went for lunch.
We shared the polpete as appetizers, which tasted great. We then had the eggplant pasta & the duck pasta. They were served with a very tasty green salad. Both were good, & portions were super generous, we could barely finish, but we weren't wowed.
Service was quick, & the place is very charming & cosy.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience, we'll come back for dinner to try other dishes & see how that compares.
One of my favorite hidden gems in town. I dinned in last night for the 3rd time, & now that I've tried a fair amount of dishes, I can say not a single dish on that menu will be disappointing. Everything is sooo delicious. My favs: the lamb & the clams linguini 10/10
If you're on the hunt for the best pasta in Montreal, look no further. This restaurant feels like a home away from home, offering not just incredible food but also exceptional hospitality that makes every visit unforgettable. From the perfectly crafted dishes to the thoughtfully curated drinks, every detail is a testament to their passion for excellence. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this spot is an absolute must-try.
Not too impressed with the place. I had Gnocchi with the soup & both were good. My girlfriend had Cavatelli with the salad. Salad was pretty basic & missing dressing so a bit dry. The cavatelli was pretty underwhelming too. I'd definitely recommend going for the soup & there might be better pasta dishes to try on the menu than these two. Service was great & quick.
We had an amazing dining experience, thanks to Nita, who was incredibly helpful & super friendly! For starters, we enjoyed the Polpette di Amerigo & the Mozzarella di Bufala. For our main dishes, we had the Gnocchi Funghi e Tartufata & the Ravioli di Gamberi e Vongole. To finish off, we indulged in two delicious tiramisus for dessert. Everything was homemade & absolutely delicious! I would give six stars if I could !!
All the dishes we ordered were very good & the portions are generous. The polpettes & cavatelli barese were our favorites. Great service too :) Place is a bit noisy & dark inside but the deco & products they sell make it cute. Was a bit hot inside too. Happy I tried it.
We were 2 couples. When we arrived terrace tables were available. They didnt offer that & put us inside at a table with high (not the most comfortable) chairs. Service was a bit off. They took our order & then someone else came to take our order! Had to ask for water refill. Their included salad was meh. Main dishes were good. The restaurant has AC, but it was very hot inside. When we asked they said the AC wasn't working. They should have told us that from the start & that would have been a'great' reason to ask us when we arrived if we wanted terrace seating. By the time they asked if we wanted dessert or coffee, we were so hot we got the bill & went out for a walk.
Where do I even start! You think you're waiting a long time, but the second you get there they give you a complimentary salad, bread, & 5 smiles. A burrata to start, perfect. Now comes the star: the truffle gnocchi & the à la Norma! These 2 dishes paired perfectly together. The gnocchi is PERFECTION but very rich. & the Norma balances it out. These dishes are so good, it felt surreal. & then we ordered dessert, a perfect end to the meal. Tiramisu & pistachio gelato, so light. The real highlight, besides the amazing food & beautiful ambiance, was the service. We felt like part of the family by the end. Everyone there was so welcoming & loving, & they just wanted us fed. Such a warm place to be, we must go back next Thursday!
One of the best Italian restaurants in the city. The owner is a wholesome guy. The dishes are exquisite with good portions. Highly recommended!
Hidden gem! Possibly the best Italian food I've ever had outside of Italy. This small bistro serves uncompromising & incredibly flavorful Italian dishes in a cozy setting. I had the grilled Octopus which was absolutely amazing. Cannot recommend enough!
We had to wait an hour for a table, which was fine as we knew they didn't take reservations. We were a group of 4. The chicken parm was 10/10, the gnocchi had such an overwhelming truffle taste that it was not enjoyable. One of the other pasta dishes we ordered was over cooked. Also the bread they serve was really disappointing. The calamari was to die for.
Upon a friend's recommendation, we decided to dine at this establishment. Our order included a delightful assortment of dishes, including gnocchi, ravioli, the bolognese, & the duck ragu. Each dish exceeded our expectations, & we complemented our meal with margaritas that had just the right balance of flavors & alcohol content. What truly stood out was the exceptional service. Our server not only guided us through the menu but also shared fascinating insights about the origins of the ingredients & the restaurant's rich history. It's worth noting that reservations are not accepted here, so be prepared to provide your name & patiently wait until your table becomes available. In summary, our experience at this restaurant was truly remarkable, & we thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it.
I found my new favorite restaurant for pasta. Solid 4 stars, here are the minor things that need improvement. - i was very disapointed with the bread. They serve the same bread from premiere moisson that you can buy at Costco, & they don't even bother to heat it up. Coming to a restaurant where they make fresh pasta, I would expect better bread. - the little salad with the mozzarella was bland & lacked salt. I dont know if its meant to be served that way or the cook just forgot to put salt on it but it had no taste. - the guy behind the bar who served us never offered us some parmesan with our main dishes, never asked us if our food was good. If he would've done this it would've been a 5 star for the service because other than these 2 points, he was very polite & service was fast. Little suggestion, a chili oil for people who like their food spicy would be a great condiment to have for people who would like to have some. I would've added some chili oil on the spaghetti that comes with the chicken parm! I hope the owner of the restaurant reads my review & can agree with me. I rarely write reviews, but I felt I wanted to share these points because I really can see this restaurant becoming my favorite italian restaurant in the city. I really wish them a lot of success. The gnoccis were to die for. The chicken parm was perfect. What can I say about the tiramisu? 10/10 just wow! I will definitely be back as I want to taste almost all the dishes on the menu! Just please give me some good & warm homemade bread with my pasta!
Oh my God! The food is absolutely fantastic, I have a very picky taste in terms of ingredient quality, & both dishes we got were phenomenal.
We went to this place on the recommendation from a friend. We ordered a bunch of different dishes gnocchi, ravioli, the bolognese, & the duck ragu. All the food was really good & we ordered the margarita as drinks which were nice & had a good amount of alcohol. The service was also amazing as the server talked to us about the food & where the ingredients are from & even talked about the history of the restaurant. Do keep in mind that when going here, they don't do reservations so you have to put your name & they will call you when the table is ready. Overall, this was an amazing restaurant & loved it!
A little pricier than other restaurants but the food is good. The first time I went, the waitress recommended the Seafood linguini with squid ink sauce. It was delicious. My second time there I had the special of the day which was rigatoni in tomato sauce with meatballs, ribs, & italian sausage. It was ok, nothing great but not bad. I am looking forward to going back & trying out some other a la carte dishes.
