I've been to a few higher end restaurants & I tend to think that a lot of them aren't worth it. I would spend 3x the price to eat the food at Barroco. This restaurant is by far the best in Montreal & there is no question. Every time I've been here I order something new & everything it is top quality & amazing. This time, our waiter Phil talked with us for a while about other restaurants we like & the food here. He even brought me a special birthday shot at the end of the evening to celebrate. Actually goated restaurant.

For those who care, out of the meals I've had here (They were all 5/5 so don't stress)
1. The duck (Order this, it is wild the sauce is crazy)
2 - 3. Can't decide between the Paella & the short rib. The paella was so good but the short rib has the best sauce in the world if the place wasn't as nice as it is I would have licked the plate I am not trolling.
4 - & remember this is still delicious, the Veal special. The potato with the truffle was insane I wish I had 10 of them.

Side note, the sauce for the oysters took us on a trip we were eating it alone with a spoon because it was so good.

Anyways ill be back to taste the other items on the menu soon!

I ordered the grilled octopus, the squash with foie gras, the paella barroco, & the butcher's cut (an 18oz ribeye steak). The grilled octopus was delicious, though $35 for the portion served felt a bit pricey. The foie gras didn't quite suit my taste. The standout dish of the night was definitely the paella, easily the best I've had in Montreal. Unfortunately, the ribeye steak was very DISAPPOINTING. Priced at $75 & meant to be shared by two, it came with a choice of sauce (we selected truffle butter). However, when the steak arrived, it was already quite COLD, so much so that the butter wouldn't even melt when placed on top. Normally, I would have rated this meal 4 stars despite the mishaps, but a final issue made it hard to do so. When my partner mentioned to the waitress that the steak had been underwhelming (both in temperature & quality) & that we hadn't been told it would cost $75, she responded rather coldly, insisting she had informed us of the price-though we hadn't been told. While we likely would have ordered it anyway, given it's a reasonable price, the attitude at the end left us feeling let down.

Here's a review you can use: "I had an unforgettable dining experience at BARROCO in Old Port, Montreal. From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, & genuinely friendly, making us feel welcome & well taken care of. The food was absolutely divine, with each dish bursting with flavor & presented beautifully. You can truly taste the quality & freshness of the ingredients. The ambiance was just perfect-charming, cozy, a hint of eccentricity in a warm atmosphere that complements the historic charm of Old Port. Whether you're looking for a romantic evening or a delightful meal with friends, BARROCO is a must-visit!"

Visiting Barroco in Old Montreal was an unforgettable experience, especially thanks to their phenomenal Beef Shortribs, which was hands-down the best meal of my life. We opted for the Menu du Chef, & every dish was a delightful surprise, masterfully prepared & bursting with flavors. The ambiance of the restaurant offers a cozy yet elegant backdrop perfect for a special evening, complemented by staff who are both attentive & welcoming, making you feel right at home. Everything about Barroco was perfect, from start to finish. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to try those incredible shortribs again. If you find yourself in Old Montreal, Barroco is a must-visit spot-you won't regret it!

Barroco was a delightful find. I was intrigued by the decor, & more importantly, the service was incredible. My husband & I started off meeting a wonderful waitress by the name of Alessandra. Alessandra was very helpful in choosing my cocktail for the evening along with our scrumptious dinner. Along with dinner, we wanted to order a bottle of red wine that would pair nicely with the paella we ordered. Alessandra immediately introduced us to a sommelier by the name of Phillip. He was definitely an expert in his field. Phillip shared his passion & experience in describing a bottle of wine that would make our palettes pop. We scored the best bottle of wine with our chosen meal. That particular bottle he chose was absolutely perfect. Thank you, Phillip, for helping us. The evening does not stop there. Alessandra, the waitress circles back to us & offers us a dessert menu. My husband & I had one glass, each of the red wine left to enjoy. Instead of dessert, we asked Alessandra if she could bring a cheese platter with brioche bread. She did just that. Phillip also circled back to us, & once he learned we were essentially having cheese & bread for our dessert with our wine, Phillip was very excitedand said, "Nice choice." Barroco, you have a wonderful restaurant, but what makes it even better is your staff offering their best cutomer experience. Thanks again for making every one of my husband's, & of course, my taste buds explode!!

Barroco is a cozy, intimate dinner restaurant with French/Euro-inspired items that are almost always a hit. The chef often has interesting specials that are worth exploring, especially if they involve red meat. My best tip would be to order a side of grilled, buttered sourdough bread (for a fee of $5), as most dishes come with a lot of sauce. The bread can be used to scoop it all up for a tasty finish.

The service is at Barroco is good, but our food was not worth what we paid. My steak was incredibly tough, which was not an issue with how it was cooked. It was not a good quality piece of beef. My wife & I arrived when they opened & were the first or second table served. Our food was room temperature & cold when it arrived. Overall, not a great experience.

It's been a tradition for me that ever since first going to Barroco in 2015, I go there every single time I'm Montréal. It never ever disappoints; one of my favorite restaurants in the whole world.

Amazing night we had in Barroco! The place is really cozy & well decorated. The food was incredible. We order the octopus, the brioche & the steak with truffle butter... everything tasted really good. Plus, the attention & cordiality from our waiter Luca was incredible. It was my wife's birthday & highly recommend this place for a special occasion.

Cuisine & service impeccable.

**"Five-Star Feast at Barroco: A Symphony of Flavors in Montreal"**

🍷 Last night, my better half & I embarked on a gastronomic odyssey at Barroco, a gem nestled in the heart of Montreal. Celebrating her birthday, we sought something extraordinary &, oh boy, did Barroco deliver with a capital 'B'!

Enveloped in an aura of romantic lighting & the classic elegance of white tablecloths, Barroco's ambiance whispered 'chic' in every corner. It was like stepping into a scene from an old Hollywood movie, minus the black-&-white filter & plus some seriously good food.

The adventure began with their six-course tasting menu, a culinary carousel that had us spinning with delight. Priced at CAD 85 per person with an additional CAD 60 for the wine pairing, it was a bargain for a ticket to flavor town.

First off, the deviled eggs with bottarga set the stage – a playful twist on a classic, much like the restaurant itself. Then, the roasted wild mushrooms arrived, bathed in mushroom & black garlic jus, paired with a Petit Chablis that danced on the palate.

The grilled octopus was a sea-sational journey, with steamed fingerling potatoes & paprika, accompanied by a glass of Alsace Riesling that sang harmonies with each bite. Then came the showstopper, the Paella Barroco, a mosaic of seafood & chorizo, each spoonful a mini fiesta, perfectly matched with a Spätburgunder.

But hold your forks! The beef short ribs – oh, those ribs! Boneless, tender, & glazed with maple & aged balsamic, they were like a meaty lullaby, paired with a robust Dao Reserva.

Finally, the sweet clover semifreddo with confit apple landed softly on our taste buds, a sweet ending to a fabulous meal, with a Gailloc Doux whispering a gentle goodnight.

Barroco's commitment to tradition – serving ladies first – added a touch of chivalry to the experience. The 5 to 10-minute interlude between courses was a thoughtful touch, allowing flavors to linger & conversations to bloom.

In summary, Barroco is not just a meal; it's a culinary sonnet, a love letter to the art of dining. Happy birthday to my wife, & cheers to Barroco for a night to remember! 🎉👩‍❤️‍👨🎂

Barroco was the first restaurant my partner brought me to on my first trip to Montreal 5 years ago. The food, space & staff were amazing then & still are. We returned to Montreal with my adult children for Christmas & enjoyed an amazing meal & created wonder family memories & can not wait to return on our next Montreal trip. Don't miss this place. Small becomes cozy & the staff & food are the top of the game.

What a find! My business group of 7 went to Barroco & had, what was universally agreed, to be a wonderful time. Just the right, quaint, bistro atmosphere in Old Montreal.
