We shared the farm salad with crispy chicken skin bites that added the perfect savory touch to the super fresh greens, fantastic filet mignon, & probably the best lamb I've ever had. We shared the classic French dessert- madeleine's, warm & freshly baked served with an amazing dark chocolate orange/lemon infused truffle with our espressos. The only slight criticism I have is that the bread was served grilled - great idea, but a little burnt which left an aftertaste for hours afterwards. But we definitely plan to return on our next visit to Montreal!
What a divine little restaurant. Had a lovely time having dinner at Barroco, the bar man was fantastic & so attentive. I had the leeks & scallops for entree, omgoodness - delicious! A must have. The flavours in this was something else. & the beef for main cooked to perfection again the flavours in the jus & puree was delicious. Highly recommend this place. Very nice selection of wines & cocktails aswell.
Fourth time in 5 years. We try to go every time we are in Montreal. Nice ambience in a small, old Montreal setting. Exceptional food & wine. Beautiful service as unobtrusive or nice banter as you want it to be. Exceptional at servicing gluten free & food intolerances. We always have fun here for two or a bigger group. They are often full but sometimes you get lucky calling day before or same day.
We had one night in Montreal. Barroco had great reviews & did not disappoint. Three of us had the braised beef & I had a duck breast special. There was not a morsel left. To start I had oysters & others had the scallops. Both were winners. George our server was terrific. It's a little pricey but for one night! Great wine list. I'd go back for sure.
Food here was fantastic & the restaurant is beautiful. The service was amazing & our server gave wonderful food & wine recommendations.
What an amazing little spot. We sat at the bar & Mark took excellent care of us. From cocktails, to appetizers & wine to entres. T'was an exceptional experience with amazing food & service. Would highly recommend.
This place is perfection in every way. It was completely full & so busy but our server never seemed flustered or rushed in any way. She was lovely, provided impeccable service & never missed an opportunity to pour our wine. The food was top notch. I had the beef tartare & poached halibut & my husband had the chicken liver parfait & braised beef. Every bite was amazing. Such a memorable meal in a beautiful setting. You definitely need a reservation & rightly so. Fantastic all round.
Amazing experience at Barocco! The atmosphere is elegant, the food was delicious, & the service was outstanding. The wine selection was perfect, & every detail made the evening special. Highly recommend for a great night out!
Barroco was a delightful find. I was intrigued by the decor, & more importantly, the service was incredible. My husband & I started off meeting a wonderful waitress by the name of Alessandra. Alessandra was very helpful in choosing my cocktail for the evening along with our scrumptious dinner. Along with dinner, we wanted to order a bottle of red wine that would pair nicely with the paella we ordered. Alessandra immediately introduced us to a sommelier by the name of Phillip. He was definitely an expert in his field. Phillip shared his passion & experience in describing a bottle of wine that would make our palettes pop. We scored the best bottle of wine with our chosen meal. That particular bottle he chose was absolutely perfect. Thank you, Phillip, for helping us. The evening does not stop there. Alessandra, the waitress circles back to us & offers us a dessert menu. My husband & I had one glass, each of the red wine left to enjoy. Instead of dessert, we asked Alessandra if she could bring a cheese platter with brioche bread. She did just that. Phillip also circled back to us, & once he learned we were essentially having cheese & bread for our dessert with our wine, Phillip was very excitedand said, "Nice choice." Barroco, you have a wonderful restaurant, but what makes it even better is your staff offering their best cutomer experience. Thanks again for making every one of my husband's, & of course, my taste buds explode!!
Truly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. The service from the host to the captain was incredible, every need was anticipated. The food was phenomenal & would recommend the chefs tasting menu to all. The wine menu was thorough & the pairing accompanied the tasting menu perfectly. The beef short ribs are a must order dish. Can't wait to come back!
We arrived early to our reservation, & we're offered complimentary prosecco while waiting. The atmosphere is so cool & the staff is so incredibly attentive & kind... Even when I spilled some wine on myself. The food was really good. I dont know if our pallets aren't up to snuff or a couple our dishes were off from what we expected for the price point (HIGH). We enjoyed it overall.
This is the number one restaurant in Montreal. Food is insane. Drinks are unique & their wine selection goes well with their menu. To top it off, the service is unmatched. My wife & I spend every special event there since the day their doors opened (minus Covid days) We are lucky as Montrealers to have such a quality restaurant.
Charming, cozy bistro with friendly, attentive service. My monkfish was superb, served with bacon cracklings. Hubby had the veal & a papery thin mille feuille of potatoes. Also excellent. Great selection of wines. Prices were not astronomical. The original edifice was an 150 year old stable. Old-timey lamps at every table give off a warm glow, a wild boars' head trophy & ancient stone walls make this place a keeper.
I am so disappointed on my last visit here😤. We had a great dinner but it took a turn when we asked for a basket of bread & they have no bread or fries unfortunately they said, BUT they have a homemade brioche that's on the menu to order if we'd like... Please look at that one slice of brioche that came on the plate for $18 🤯, are they out of they're mind It just ruined our night & we continued to dine & wine & went our way & not sure when I'll be back. What a shame
Early dinner because the restaurant is small, which was fine with us. We tried the tasting menu for two & every course was superb. I was a bit skeptical about some of the wines-no, go with it, they pair beautifully with the dishes. Great neighborhood to hang around, the sommelier was the best.
Great food & staff. Expansive wine selection. Had a wonderful evening & will most certainly be back again!
We enjoyed wonderful meals, great service, excellent wine pairings. Felt like we were a world away!
Would absolutely go back. Service attentive, knowledgable but not pushy. Interesting, thoughtful cocktails. Ordered multiple starters & shared an entree with my partner - opportunity to explore more on the menu. Impressive wine selection for all budgets, leaning to those with plenty of disposable income. Tiny spot but cosy - French, European, neighborhood restaurant feel putting out high quality dishes.
I went there for the first time & was really impressed by the quality of the food & taste. But... We ordered the tasting menu along with the wine pairings. It would have been perfect but the plates came too fast & we ended up having three glasses of wine each on the table by the time we got the fourth plate. If I may offer a suggestion: either allow more time to taste each wine pairing, or serve half sized portions of wine. Together, we wasted about $100 worth of very good wine... Will go back again for sure but will opt for the menu à la carte.
**"Five-Star Feast at Barroco: A Symphony of Flavors in Montreal"**
🍷 Last night, my better half & I embarked on a gastronomic odyssey at Barroco, a gem nestled in the heart of Montreal. Celebrating her birthday, we sought something extraordinary &, oh boy, did Barroco deliver with a capital 'B'!
Enveloped in an aura of romantic lighting & the classic elegance of white tablecloths, Barroco's ambiance whispered 'chic' in every corner. It was like stepping into a scene from an old Hollywood movie, minus the black-&-white filter & plus some seriously good food.
The adventure began with their six-course tasting menu, a culinary carousel that had us spinning with delight. Priced at CAD 85 per person with an additional CAD 60 for the wine pairing, it was a bargain for a ticket to flavor town.
First off, the deviled eggs with bottarga set the stage – a playful twist on a classic, much like the restaurant itself. Then, the roasted wild mushrooms arrived, bathed in mushroom & black garlic jus, paired with a Petit Chablis that danced on the palate.
The grilled octopus was a sea-sational journey, with steamed fingerling potatoes & paprika, accompanied by a glass of Alsace Riesling that sang harmonies with each bite. Then came the showstopper, the Paella Barroco, a mosaic of seafood & chorizo, each spoonful a mini fiesta, perfectly matched with a Spätburgunder.
But hold your forks! The beef short ribs – oh, those ribs! Boneless, tender, & glazed with maple & aged balsamic, they were like a meaty lullaby, paired with a robust Dao Reserva.
Finally, the sweet clover semifreddo with confit apple landed softly on our taste buds, a sweet ending to a fabulous meal, with a Gailloc Doux whispering a gentle goodnight.
Barroco's commitment to tradition – serving ladies first – added a touch of chivalry to the experience. The 5 to 10-minute interlude between courses was a thoughtful touch, allowing flavors to linger & conversations to bloom.
In summary, Barroco is not just a meal; it's a culinary sonnet, a love letter to the art of dining. Happy birthday to my wife, & cheers to Barroco for a night to remember! 🎉👩❤️👨🎂
