The warm sourdough bread & butter is a must try, started with the endive salad & the salmon as a main, followed by the lightest berry tart for dessert. Everything was delicious, not to mention the building itself is just stunning !
I really wanted to love Bar George more than I ultimately did, because there's a lot here that genuinely works.
The restaurant makes an immediate impression. The decor is stunning, the music is great, the energy is lively, & the bar itself is visually beautiful. The live DJ added a strong atmosphere to the room, & initially it all feels luxurious & elevated.
But the longer the evening went on, the more the experience started to feel like a highly stylized version of upscale casual dining masquerading as fine dining. Heavy on atmosphere, branding, & curated'scene,' but lacking the warmth, attentiveness, & polish you would expect at this price point.
The food, however, was unquestionably the highlight of the evening.
I had the 10 oz ribeye with the roasted carrots & shishito peppers, & the kitchen absolutely delivered. The steak was cooked perfectly & was genuinely delicious. The jus alongside it was incredible, rich & deeply satisfying to the point where I immediately ordered bread just to soak up what remained on the plate.
& honestly, the bread ended up being fantastic. Light, fluffy, warm, perfectly crisp on the outside, & paired with one of the best butters I've had in a long time. Salty, velvety, rich without being heavy. Together with the steak jus, it created one of the most memorable bites of the night. The carrots with the yogurt accompaniment were exceptional, & the shishito peppers were thoughtful & well executed.
The problem is that the front-of-house experience never quite rises to the same level as the kitchen.
Service throughout the evening felt inattentive & oddly transactional. Not rude, just impersonal & disconnected from the premium atmosphere the restaurant is trying to project. Small details started adding up over time: random used straws left sitting near the bar, furniture being moved around during service, long waits for simple requests, & an overall pacing issue that repeatedly interrupted otherwise great moments.
Even some of the design choices strangely reflect that contradiction. The bar stools look beautiful & match the aesthetic perfectly, but they're narrow, made with leather that feels surprisingly cheap, & angled in a way that makes you feel like you're slipping off every time you adjust your seat. Stylish, but not particularly comfortable.
The dessert menu also leaned a little too heavily into spectacle & luxury theatre for my taste. Some items sounded compelling, but the overall presentation of the menu, branding touches, & even the illustrated postcard left at the table occasionally pushed the experience into something that felt more curated & tourist-driven than authentically refined.
That's ultimately what stayed with me most.
Bar George feels like a restaurant with exceptional culinary talent inside a stunning room, but one that sometimes mistakes aesthetic &'vibe' for genuine hospitality. At this price point, you expect a certain level of polish & attentiveness, & while the food absolutely earns praise, the overall experience never fully came together in the way it should have.
Would I come back? Probably yes, because the kitchen is genuinely that good.
But I'd come back for the food, not necessarily for the experience.
Full English breakfast was amazing, & they have a good selection of drinks & desserts as well.
Classic British restaurant. Nice interior. One of their desserts did not have the alcohol cooked off properly & wasn't great but the rest was amazing enough to make up for it (get the ham appetizer)
Had an absolutely wonderful dining experience here! The atmosphere was warm & welcoming from the moment we walked in. Our server was attentive & knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. The food was exceptional - fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned, & beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. The portions were generous & well worth the price. The restaurant was clean & well-maintained, & despite being busy, we didn't feel rushed. The dessert was the perfect ending to our meal. We'll definitely be returning soon & would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal & excellent service. Five stars!
We ordered the beef wellington, drinks & dessert. Everything was divine.
Kevin provided exceptional service & his wine pairing recommendations hit the mark.
Can't wait to return to this beautiful spot!
Very refined Halibut meal & chocolate dessert. I can't imagine any meals not being extra delicious in this establishment. I will be back for more.
Nice location. The beef wellington & the dessert were very good (the starter : octupuss carpaccio was disappointing). The cocktail at 30$ was excessively expensive. Overall a good experience, but too expensive for what it is.
I had an amazing dining experience! The food was exceptional; especially the Beef Wellington, which was perfectly cooked & full of flavor. Service was impressively fast, & our waiter Zachery was an absolute delight. He recommended the perfect dessert & was incredibly accommodating with my non-alcoholic drink requests. His friendly & attentive service really elevated the experience. Highly recommend this place, trust me, you won't be disappointed!
We recently tried this restaurant & had a great experience. The food was absolutely delicious. The menu isn't very long, but it offers a well-curated variety that caters to different tastes. A true delicatesse.
Service gets four stars because our waiter disappeared during dessert & was replaced only after we had to look for someone. A bit disappointing not to have consistent service throughout.
During our Montréal trip, we went to Bar George for a date night. It's such a beautiful spot with stunning decor. When we walked through the front doors, even though we had a reservation, we still had to line up with everyone else. A lot of people were lining up for the bar section near the entrance, & there was also a wedding happening upstairs, which made things a bit busier than usual.
We were booked in the dining area, which is located in a second room past the bar. We had to wait a while before someone helped us, & the arrangement at the entrance felt a little chaotic. I can't say the initial experience standing in line was great. However, once we got seated, the dining room itself was absolutely beautiful.
The vibe at the entrance felt more like a lively bar or party scene, while the dining area was much more refined & relaxed - an interesting contrast.
Once at our table, the service was fantastic. Our host was very attentive & gave us great food recommendations. We started with the mussels, which were fresh & delicious. My husband ordered the risotto, but when our food arrived, he was mistakenly served the gnocchi. The staff quickly caught the error & brought him the risotto, which he fully enjoyed.
I had the beef Wellington dish, & it was perfect - not a huge portion, but just the right amount, rich & full of flavor. We ended the night with a yummy dessert, though I can't quite remember which one it was, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it.
One thing I have to add: our bill ended up being just under $500, which, to be honest, felt way too high for a casual evening out. Even though the food was good, I can't really justify spending that much, & it definitely took away a bit from the overall experience for me. I left feeling like it just wasn't quite worth that price.
It was a great atmosphere & the waiter went out of his way to please us: we asked a dessert out of the breakfast menu & he made it happen for us. The interior is really impressive!
Food is good but a bit pricey for what u get. Service is good as well. However, i book the table to celebrate my gf's bday & specifically ask if they have any complimentary like a little cake for her. When we dined in. It seems like they did not receive any message from the booking. The server told me to order any dessert & he will put the candle on it. I get that everything has cost but most of the place like this that i went give free complimentary for special occasion. Overall is good. Just a little bit disappointed
The architecture of this restaurant was beautiful. The customer service was also good. However, we did not leave feeling satisfied with food given the high price tag. The beet salad & the chocolate dessert were excellent. However, our mains, the Beef Wellington & Chicken Roulade did not live up to our expectations. The beef Wellington by itself was nothing special, & it relied on the fancy colourful sauces to add flavour. It was not worth the price. The Chicken Roulade was ok, but not worth the money.
The beef wellington is very good. It accompanied well with the sauce & the mushrooms. The mushroom soup is very good as well. The dessert is very nice, not too sweet, just right. The staffs are very nice as well
The interior decor was well-crafted woodworking. Started at the bar & got good service as the bartender worked with the hostess to ensure a smooth move to the dining room-rolled the drinks into a single check. The ambiance in the dining room was even nicer. Such a soothing, quiet evening with my wife. The burrata & halibut were top-notch. Portions are only moderately-sized so our usual strategy of splitting an appetizer & an entree left me still a little hungry so I ordered some dessert named after a mountain in Switzerland that they set on fire before I got a chance to eat it. It was also delicious, but my wife only took one bite because she wanted to watch her figure. Unfortunately, it rained on our walk back to the hotel & my wife's hair got messed up, or so she claims. I didn't notice any difference in her hair.
The food was seriously mid. We did not like the duck breast & beef bourguignon, do not recommend. However, the dessert was delicious & the interior was very nice.
Repas en soirée. Un régal ! Service & repas gastronomique.
