Such a lovely experience at George! We sat at the bar & ended up having the nicest evening. The service was wonderful, we were really well taken care of, & the cocktails were excellent. I tried a few from the menu, but the dirty martini was especially memorable. Beautiful atmosphere, great drinks & genuinely lovely service. Definitely a place I'd come back to when in Montreal.
I planned a surprise dinner for my husband's 45th at Bar George. An establishment we frequent & had a group of 6 spending $1200+ for the evening. Everything, except this one thing, went well. & this one thing has led us to know we will never be going back or recommending BG.
I checked with them before hand to bring our own cake. This was a custom, two layer cake as you can see from the photos. When it came for the time to serve this 10 inch cake that would easily serve 12 people, we got six HALF pieces (see photo with candle). The bottom layer was missing on all the pieces. & we received less than one third of the cake to go home.
Where did the rest of the bespoke cake go?
Well we wrote to Chloe Fournier, the Assistant Manager, to convey our concerns. Not only did she deny everything but also gaslit me on the photo evidence saying the cake had only one layer & looked nothing like the piece photographed at home. (See photos of the cake at Bar George [photo 1] & then the slice on the floral plate at home [photo 3]). Anyone can tell that is not a one layer cake!
So, if you're planning a birthday, have your cake at your table at all times.
Did not expect such petty theft from such a fine establishment. I guess you can't let your guard down anywhere!
Absolute favourite place for dinner when in town for the weekend in Montreal. Beef wellington is always delicious, & enjoying a pre or post dinner cocktail in the gorgeous bar is a must.
Basically Receptionist gotta choose whether you can get in to Bar or not. Yes I understand that it's Friday night. Yes I understand Hotel Guest got the first priority. We don't mind the wait. One lady who was very nice letting us in. The other lady seems look annoyed that we got to enter to the bar. Very unacceptable with this disgusting behavior. We're not causing a scene. We try to follow the rules. & want to have a good time & try to enjoy the experience. However we feel very unwelcome. & very disappointed that we're being treated like unwanted. Since we are being unwanted. I don't see a point staying any longer. Would I come back for next time? ABSOLUTELY NO! I don't see a point being treated unwelcome. Decor is nice though.
Bar George is a beautiful bar with an amazing atmosphere & great drinks. We've gone several times, for drinks rather than food, & have had a great experience every time.
Bar George is absolutely beautiful-the atmosphere, décor, & overall vibe make for a really nice dining experience. The service was friendly & attentive, & the food was well prepared & tasty.
Visited from New York specifically expecting an upscale experience instead, we left disappointed & honestly a bit humiliated. My three friends & I were told at the door that bar seating was limited to two people per group, so we complied without issue: two of us stayed together at the bar, & our third friend sat elsewhere, exactly as instructed.
Despite following that policy to the letter, the floor manager, Mathieu, approached us visibly agitated & started raising his voice - telling me I wasn't even allowed to be sitting next to my friend, which directly contradicted the two-person rule we'd just been told to follow. It was hostile, dismissive, & turned a normal night out into an unnecessarily confrontational scene in front of other guests.
For a venue that markets itself as a luxury destination, this kind of behavior from someone in a management role is unacceptable. Service should match the price point & reputation, & this fell far short. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone visiting the city expecting the hospitality this place claims to offer.
Our son, Francesco, & his beautiful bride, Ashley, were married at Bar George on July 26, & from beginning to end, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. A few weeks later, we are still floating on air.
The venue is absolutely stunning, the service was impeccable, & the food was extraordinary. Throughout the evening, guests continually came up to tell us how delicious everything was. We had a discerning crowd to impress-the bride is a chef herself, much of the bridal party were chefs, & we're an Italian family with high expectations when it comes to food! Every single person raved about the meal. The Beef Wellington was outstanding, & the gnocchi received endless praise. As Italians, hearing so many guests say it was'the best gnocchi they've ever had' is about the highest compliment possible.
The midnight buffet was another huge success. The quality of the food was exceptional, the portions were incredibly generous, & the thoughtful touches we hadn't thought about made the evening even more memorable.
A special thank you to Elias; it was a pleasure working with you. He responded to our emails & questions always in a timely fashion. He also worked well with our team of professional wedding planners, the Di Event Sisters, ensuring that every detail came together beautifully & responding to any of our concerns.
On behalf of Ashley & Francesco, & our entire Resera & Beliveau families, thank you for giving us a wedding day that was everything we had hoped & prayed for. You created memories that our family will cherish for a lifetime.
If you are considering Bar George for your wedding or any special celebration, we cannot recommend it highly enough. Our guests kept telling us that they felt like they had been swept into another era of timeless elegance.

Bellissimo bar con boiserie d'epoca. Molto interessante il bar, con la possibilità di incontrare persone o semplicemente sedersi al tavolo.
Nei weekend, poi, il brunch è un must have.
Negli anni hanno ridotto un po' le porzioni, ma qualitativamente sempre top.
Prenotazione quasi obbligatoria.
Such a pleasure propping up the bar here. The food was okay, & the barman agreeable, but this is but not the main attraction: the building is an extraordinary architectural jewel, an unsustainable private residence you can appreciate while enjoying a minor indulgence.
