At 316 avenue du Mont-Royal Est, we've been loving the kouing-amann for over 30 years.
A true neighborhood café, the owner and employees work together to offer gourmet pastries (made with passion!), fresh sandwiches and the famous kouing-amann.
Let yourself be tempted by a moment of greed in a warm family atmosphere that has lasted for nearly three decades.

It was the best thing I've ever tasted. Do yourself the favor & go.
Came here on the weekend for the kouing amann & got the chausson aux pommes too. The apple pastry was so light & flaky while being balanced & tart. The kouing amann was so delightfully buttery I was amazed. I will be back for more :) Keep in mind that their coffee machine is down sometimes.
This place is barely ever open so I'm glad I finally made it here for a breakfast pastry. The kouign amann is both crunchy on the outside & yet fluffy on the inside, sweet without being saccharine, absolutely delicious & totally worth the visit.
Pâtisserie Au Kouing Amann is one of our favourite pastry shops in the city. They have the worst hours (closed Sunday to Tuesday) but their kouign amann are amazing.
Grabbed a kouign amann ($3.25) & croissant au fromage ($3.50). Flaky, delicious goodness. You won't find a better kouign amann!
There is a circular pastry on the right side of the display, grab a slice, clear your mind, & enjoy it in the moment!
Located right on Mont Royal Avenue - one of my favorite pedestrian streets in Montréal - this bakery was a standout discovery. I've had kouign-amann before (at O Petit Paris in Montréal & even Dominique Ansel's bakery in New York City), but the one here is by far the best I've ever tasted.
The pastry is baked in a large round, almost like a pie, then cut into wedges to serve. The texture is exactly what you want: incredibly crispy on the outside, soft & tender inside. You can order a single slice for $3.25 CAD, a small round (about 6 servings) for $18 CAD, or a large (about 12 servings) for $33 CAD.
The shop is open Wednesday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. - so plan to arrive early before they sell out. The woman at the counter was very friendly & spoke both English & French, which made ordering simple.
They also offer a few other pastries (pain au chocolat, cinnamon roll, berry tart, plain croissant), but trust me - you come here for the kouign-amann. It's outstanding, & I highly recommend making a stop if you're in Montréal.
To be honest, the depictions of the kouing amann didnt look like our thing hut im glad we gave it a shot. It ended up being exactly what we needed. The inside is fluffy & dense like a rich cake while the outside was carmelized. It is just what I look for in a pastry. The price & speed were great too. They had them ready & even had options for entire cakes of it.
I visited Kouign Amann Bakery in the heart of the Plateau with a good friend, & it was a delicious little escape. Their namesake pastry-the Kouign-amann-was perfectly caramelized & buttery, easily one of the best I've had. We also tried their croissants, impossibly light & flaky. It's a cozy spot with just a few tables, ideal for sharing pastries & good conversation. A true taste of Brittany!
They have the best kouing-amann I have ever had. I always buy the large one. The pastry is awesome, & the staff is very helpful. They are bilingual.
My family has been to Montreal a couple times ( from USA) & it is now our tradition to buy a kouingaman pie from this bakery! It is flaky, buttery, with just the right amount of a sweetness for a most wonderful dessert pastry! This year we shared it with relatives in Montreal & they are now gonna be hooked with this delicious pastry!
What a delicious selection of pastries! I was in line at around 10:45 & got in to order by 11am on a saturday. I suggest going earlier in the day if you can because they had already run out of almond croissant & chocolatines. I grabbed the last regular croissant as well.
My favourite has to be warm kouing
amann slice! Although it tastes more bready than croissant-y, the top & bottom was crunchy & glazed which added to the fluffyness of the center. The raisin bread itself & regular croissants were also light & airy! However, the only pastry i wasnt fond of was the milk bread. This bread was stuffed with some chocolate but the texture just didnt suit my taste.
I would definitely be back earlier next time to try the almond croissant & chocolatine!
Absolutely amazing!! I can't sing enough praises for Au Kouign Amann -- this petite, no-frills bakery is serving up some of the best pastries I've ever had. You, of course, have to get their signature item, the kouign amann. Unlike most kouign amanns you find in the US / Canada, they bake the full-size pastries & cut them into slices vs. making single-serving mini kouign amanns. This helps preserve the buttery, flaky texture in the center, while still highlighting the crunchy crust & sweet / savory syrup coating. The pastries are certainly sweet from the caramel, but they also have a great saltiness & savoriness from the salted butter; it's also extremely dense & will easily fill you up, so I'd recommend splitting it if you wanted to try anything / anywhere else.
I don't know if I'll ever make it to Brittany, but I feel like I've had an authentic taste of this classic pastry here; absolutely check out Au Kouign Amann if you're looking for a delicious, but slightly more unique, pastry in Montreal!
This kouign amann is the best I've ever had... Frankly, it might even be the best pastry I've ever had. Perfectly balanced sweetness with the salt from the butter, crunchy exterior with a soft & flavorful interior. Absolutely delicious straight out of the oven. It was so good I had to buy a whole one to bring home, & even still, I would go back to Montreal in an instant just for this bakery!
Incredible amann pastry. It was my first time trying it, it's like a honey cruller on the inside, fluffy & buttery & a crispy outer layer like a croissant but with a thicker sweet coating wrapping around it.
Must try.
A great humble place with puff pastry delights & great service. Would recommend with ease.
Cute little shop
Yummy fresh pastry
Kind staff
Not enough sitting table , I got lucky & scored a hot almond croissant out the oven & a table
My son says this is the best pastry he has ever tried & I agree with him, my entire family loved it , will be back again
