The creation of young, up and coming Montreal restaurateurs, Wienstein & Gavino’s debuted in Montreal in 1996. W&G is a large Mediterranean restaurant spanning two floors and complimented by two terraces in the summer months. A large bar is the focal point of the first floor while the open kitchen complete with brick pizza oven is the main attraction upstairs. W&G is best known for its fresh, homemade pasta and traditional sauces and thin crust pizza. There is also a good selection of steaks, veal, and seafood. W&G serves lunch and dinner every day with a weekly table d’hôte available daily at $12-$16 for lunch and starting at $23 for dinner. In addition, a selection of pizza and pasta is available for 10$ from 11a.m. until 3p.m. for the lunch crowd and after 10pm every day for late night diners looking for a meal after the game, a concert downtown or before hitting the dance floor. W&G can also accommodate groups and can plan your party for you whether you’ve invited 10 people or 300 people! From Monday to Friday there is a “happy hour” at the W&G bar where guests can enjoy 2 for 1 from 4pm until 8pm. After cocktails at the bar, you can choose from one of the largest wine cellars in the city, stocked with reasonably priced wines, private imports, or premium fine wines. The focus is always fun at W&G with a DJ keeping things lively on the weekend and special events year-round. There is always something interesting going on at W&G!
Overall, Weinstein Gavino's is praised for high-quality Italian fare, generous portions, and fresh pasta, with favorites like calamari, burrata bruschetta, arancini, seafood pasta, osso buco, and pizzas, all served in a lively downtown atmosphere with a warm bread and olive oil starter. Service is frequently described as friendly and attentive, and the bar and wine selections are well received, though several reviews mention crowds, noise, and occasional slow pacing during busy periods or small inconsistencies in timing and temperature.
I called to make an order to go since i was in a hurry but unfortunately when I got there they had a miscommunication error & my food wasn't ready. They did offer me a complimentary drink for the extra wait time which was nice. But, for the price i paid the pasta was bland, undercooked & the sauce was super runny. Super disappointed since i loved this place for the quality to price ratio :(
We stopped for dinner tonight . We are vegetarians & even for us the menu offered a wide selection of pastas that are made from scratch. Mr. Louis was our server. One amazing gentleman & an asset to this organization! His recommendations were to the point, all dishes suggested by him were delicious & quite large servings too. If you are visiting Montreal city, you wouldn't go wrong in dining here. Reservations are recommended if it is weekends.
My wife was craving Italian, so we decided to drop by Weinstein & Gavino's, & it's been ages since our last visit. I'm happy to report that nothing has changed-everything is still fantastic. The homemade pasta is just as delicious as I remembered, & the kids' pizza was a hit. The salmon was really good too-cooked perfectly. The service was excellent, & since it was a weekday, the place wasn't crowded. To top it off, finding parking right in front was a rare treat-especially in Montreal! Definitely a sign that we were meant to be here.

This was such a great choice! The food & service were superb! The place was very spacious & very busy (a good sign) but also noisy. I guess that's expected in an Italian restaurant.
We are visiting from NYC & wanted some good Italian. Was excited when we found this place with homemade pasta. Pros - great service . Mussels were good Cons - 1. Homemade pasta texture was not at all what we are used to in nyc or Italy. Pasta was not elastic , it was like eating pasta made from chick peas or something, very grainy. We had linguini with pesto & the pesto was tasteless. Usually we find places too salty, first time I complain it was not salty or any taste at all. 2. We had Margherita pizza & it was basically a cheese pizza, not fresh mozzarella on it. It was soggy & could had used more taste also. Won't recommend this restaurant at all.
I had the speciality Ossobuco or'bone with a hole', braised veal shank & gremolata, & it was delicious 😋! The veal was melt in your mouth tender & the pasta was great. The portion was pretty big & being able to eat the marrow was a surprise. I really enjoyed the veal & together with the slice of yummy pizza & a sampler half piece of sausage from my dinner companions, I was stuffed! Another great dinner in Montreal!
The atmosphere is lovely. Service was great. The patio upstairs & outside is beautiful. I definitely recommend the pastas. The pizza was not good at all.
Ambiance is nice, I came alone & felt very comfortable. The waiter was very helpful & reviewed the menu thoroughly. Ended up getting the lambchops + half portion of mediterranean salad & it was both delicious. Came with the option of potatoes / fries & veggies. Highly recommend! Also, I was hesitant to go in since I'm not dressed up & it looks fancy but they were very welcoming!
beautiful restaurant, music isn't too loud which makes it more enjoyable of an atmosphere. staff is amazing, great service as always. prices are great, food is awesome. i always say, the best way to judge a place is by the taste of their aranchini! a very good aranchini here .
I get takout from here all the time, & usually the food is good. However, sometimes they are so unnecessarily cheap with the amount they give, & they charge real prices for such thriftiness to feel very unwarranted.
My visit here was pleasant, the food met the standards for it price point however I do believe the restaurants table plan to be rather inconvenient especially for those close to the waiting tables on the upper level. I really enjoyed my food & so did my friends but I couldn't get over how due to the setup every time the waitress had to pass behind my friend & I they continuously hit our chairs so for that reason I'd rate my experience a four.
Upon arrival seated immediately, beautiful atmosphere, tables extremely sticky/dirty, regardless of where you sit they need to address this, Ordered fettuccine Carbonara, Pasta had been pre-cooked & stuck together in clumps & hard not the way you should be served a $25 plate of pasta, ordered the pepperoni & mushroom pizza, tomato sauce extreme Acidic, dough flop huge, soggy base, been here many times over the decades food is progressively worse. Shame could be the place to be. If you check my reviews they are honest & without prejudice. If you want Italian food go somewhere else.
