The creation of young, up and coming Montreal restaurateurs, Wienstein & Gavino’s debuted in Montreal in 1996. W&G is a large Mediterranean restaurant spanning two floors and complimented by two terraces in the summer months. A large bar is the focal point of the first floor while the open kitchen complete with brick pizza oven is the main attraction upstairs. W&G is best known for its fresh, homemade pasta and traditional sauces and thin crust pizza. There is also a good selection of steaks, veal, and seafood. W&G serves lunch and dinner every day with a weekly table d’hôte available daily at $12-$16 for lunch and starting at $23 for dinner. In addition, a selection of pizza and pasta is available for 10$ from 11a.m. until 3p.m. for the lunch crowd and after 10pm every day for late night diners looking for a meal after the game, a concert downtown or before hitting the dance floor. W&G can also accommodate groups and can plan your party for you whether you’ve invited 10 people or 300 people! From Monday to Friday there is a “happy hour” at the W&G bar where guests can enjoy 2 for 1 from 4pm until 8pm. After cocktails at the bar, you can choose from one of the largest wine cellars in the city, stocked with reasonably priced wines, private imports, or premium fine wines. The focus is always fun at W&G with a DJ keeping things lively on the weekend and special events year-round. There is always something interesting going on at W&G!
Reviews highlight Wienstein & Gavino's as a lively Italian spot on Crescent Street with fresh pasta, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a reliable downtown option for pizza, pasta, and seafood. The pasta is frequently described as fresh and flavorful with items such as pesto al basilico, fettuccine Alfredo, ravioli, and other house specialties, and the pizzas and arancini are often cited as standouts along with burrata bruschetta. The service is praised for friendliness and attentiveness, though there are occasional notes of slower pace or less consistent front of house during busy times, and a few visits mention noise level and large crowds. The ambience is described as chic yet comfortable, with a vibrant energy, warm bread with olive oil, and a solid wine and cocktail program that pairs well with meals, sometimes with lively terrace options. Some reviews point to minor drawbacks such as occasional heavy sauces, limited menu clarity on certain dishes, or accessibility concerns, but the consensus is that the restaurant delivers flavorful Italian fare in generous portions at good value, prompting repeat visits and recommendations to friends.

They made us wait for 40 minutes at the door for a table that was reserved in anticipation.
We were stopped at the door saying the full party of 18 needed to be present to be seated. Twelve of us were present hoping to order drinks & apps while waiting for the person whose birthday we were celebrating.
When asked to be seated instead of standing by the door, the manager was defensive of their policy instead of accommodating for us as the clients.
It used to be a great place for large groups, with a reliable & speedy experience, but management is choosing to be less accommodating
It was my wife's birthday & let me tell you that they gave us the must horrible service ever. It took 45 min for the food to come on our table, & when it came none of them were cooked properly...we had to return my wife plate as well as my guest plate. When I complained to the manager about the long wait of our food, the only thing she did is to give us free drinks. Koodo to our waiter who looked very busy, I think he had to much table to cover...he was great & funny.
We gave this place a chance based on reviews, but the service was a nightmare. The staff has zero internal communication. We were stopped at the door & treated like criminals for trying to step outside for a smoke, even though we told a waitress & left our bags at the table as a guarantee. The management was incredibly rude & dismissive until the moment we paid; then their attitude suddenly shifted.
We specifically asked if our food would stay, but we came back upstairs to find our table cleared & our meal in takeout boxes anyway. It felt like we were profiled & judged because we were in sweatpants, as they didn't bother to listen to us until they had our money. The manager tried to fix it with a free drink, but the night was already ruined. As for the food, the ravioli was okay, but the soup was nothing special & the Manzo pasta was very'mid' & lacked flavor. Save your money & go somewhere where the staff treats customers with basic respect.
Molto bene. Great restaurant & bar located on the vibrant Crescent street, offering a wide selection of Italian dishes at fairly good prices. This restaurant is very spacious yet welcoming, which can be ideal for either dinner & drinks with a small group of friends or with a larger group of colleagues. As well, a very friendly & efficient staff.
My husband & I were here with our 18 year old son & his friend. We had a fantastic experience. Our server Florence was amazing - professional, fun, courteous & attentive. We really enjoyed the upbeat atmosphere. It was busy but the vibe was great. The food was fantastic & the bartender made top notch drinks. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Montreal!
This is my fav restaurant. The atmosphere is great! Every dish is delicious. The drinks are superb! Best of all was Brooke. She had exceptional recommendations & really provided top notch service. Thank you! We'll be back! :)
Everything about this Italian style restaurant is top shelf. The food & drinks are excellent, as is the service. The staff is both skilled & friendly. I loved the'distressed' wall motif that add an old world charm.
There is no parking. Walk or take a cab to get there

We went here for dinner reservations & had an excellent time. Our waitress was fast, attentive, & very friendly. Drinks were served quickly, water was refilled without asking, & the food was delicious. The bathrooms were clean, & the overall experience was great. Highly recommended!
Wienstein & Gavino's was a great spot! I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. The service was a bit slow as it took a long time to get our drinks & put our order in, but the atmosphere made it worth it. Everything was really fresh! If you're looking for parking, there's a garage right next door (it's cash only).
We love this spot. Discovered it a few summers ago during a Montreal trip, & I actually reverse image searched old google photos just to track it down again. That's how good it was.
We don't exactly travel light, last time we came with 40 people (yes, 4-0). This time we toned it down… only 22 of us. We came in like a friendly storm of food requests, substitutions, & general large-group mayhem.
Ellie-Anne, our server, was an absolute legend. Calm, kind, & completely unshaken by our chaos. She handled everything with a smile. even when one of the kids' meals was delayed, she made sure we were looked after.
Food? Still amazing. Drinks? Still perfect. I devoured the seafood risotto, & my son is still talking about his flavourful mac & cheese.
Already planning our next visit - & yes, we will be bring even more people next time. Sorry in advance 😄
After a leisurely afternoon exploring the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, my cousin & I were craving a good meal to cap off our day. Wienstein & Gavino's, located just a short walk from the museum, felt like the perfect spot to unwind & indulge in delicious food. The inviting atmosphere immediately drew us in, & from start to finish, it was a memorable dining experience.
Wienstein & Gavino's is a great spot for anyone looking for a refined yet cozy atmosphere with Italian-inspired dishes. The service, food, & ambiance make it a solid choice for a relaxed meal in Montreal, especially if you're near the Museum of Fine Arts. Whether you're in the mood for a comforting pasta or a light seafood appetizer, this restaurant delivers a memorable dining experience.

In depth review:
Ambiance:
The space is warm & stylish, with a cozy bistro feel & plenty of seating. While it's large, it never felt too noisy, & we were able to enjoy a peaceful meal upstairs. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between lively & intimate.
Drinks:
My cousin had a Long Island Iced Tea ($11.30), which he liked for its well-balanced mix, while I went for an Italian Pinot Grigio ($11.25). Both drinks were refreshing & paired well with our food, setting the tone for a relaxing evening.
Food:
We started with the calamari ($23), which was light & crispy with two great dipping sauces. For my main, I had the Ravioli alla Gavino ($24)-the ricotta & spinach filling was creamy & delicious, though I'd have liked a bit more seasoning. My cousin's Fettuccini Carbonara ($25) was the highlight of the meal: perfectly cooked pasta in a rich, smoky sauce.
Service:
The service was friendly & attentive without being overbearing. Our server was knowledgeable, & the meal was paced perfectly, allowing us to enjoy every bite without feeling rushed.
Value for Money:
At just over $100 for both of us, the prices felt fair for the quality of the food & the experience. The portions were generous, & the overall meal was satisfying.
Two stars is generous. When first walking in, the restaurant seems well decorated & high-end. & the service was pretty good, pretty basic & the restaurant is busy. Everything is pretty okay EXCEPT for the food… The food was absolutely outrageous for the price. We had ordered two pastas, a pizza & Breaded chicken parm. The food was bland, chewy & overall honestly awful. Our entire table was quiet as we sat there eating this food, almost forcing it down our throats so we wouldn't waste. I would've rated the food a one, but I the drinks made up for it. Anyways, please save your money & go to another restaurant in MTL.
