UMAMI RAMEN & IZAKAYA is the very first fully vegan ramen restaurant in Montreal.
Thanks to the import of a Japanese machine for making noodles, the establishment makes its own homemade noodles from organic wheat, in addition to making its broths, Tsukemono, kombucha and sprouts! The restaurant offers several varieties of ramen and small classics of Japanese Bistronomy in a vegan version. Whether we think of okonomiyaki, gyozas, Agedashi tofu or even tempeh Tonkatsu, Cédric and his team are happy to present to you every day, from starter to dessert, these revisited Japanese classics... just a few exclusives straight out of our kitchens. And who says Izayaka, of course, says refreshing beers, sumptuous wines, intoxicating cocktails, delicate sakes and other fine wine products. At Umami Ramen, we experience cruelty-free gastronomy at its best!

Great food/very generous portions. Terrific service. Made this vegan happy.
What a lovely dining experience. The staff is so accommodating & knowledgeable. My partner & I were running 40mins late because of traffic & they still welcomed us while making sure we recieved good quality service. Best vegan ramen in Montreal!
Great vegan ramen. Full flavor, great noodles. Loved their version of katsu.
Very exceptional vegan restaurant. We all thoroughly enjoyed our ramen dishes in addition to the appetizers. However, the service was slow & we waited a long while (i.e. 45 mins) for one of the appetizers & mains to arrive. Great location & ambiance as well.
A good concept -a vegan izakaya- but a lack of authenticity in the cooking. The flavours were not well balanced or blended at all.
An ingredient was used in the cocktails -I suppose to recreate the foam without eggs... could it be aquafaba?- that gave my husband & I utterly scratchy throats, so much so that we couldn't finish them.
The soft serve matcha ice cream was also underwhelming. Once again, we could almost taste the ingredients separately without feeling any kind of harmony.
The service was also poor. They are using a system for booking that is very rigid. We arrived a bit early & the table booked in the system was not available yet. They did offer us another one but it was right by the entrance & right by another guests' table, whereas so many better table were free & remained so throughout our meal.
Though we are not vegan, we eat vegan food a lot & like it very much. We also love Japanese cuisine so this could have been a match made in heaven for us, but sadly, it wasn't.
Fantastic meal. The okonomiyaki was absolutely delicious, & the housemade pickles were really bright & acidic. Both ramens that we had (tantanmen & curry tempeh) were excellent. Probably the most interesting part of the meal was the amazingly tasty cocktail of armagnac, madeira, & miso (get this cocktail). The space is beautiful, & the service was really casual & friendly. We're not vegan (both vegetarian), but it didn't ever feel like the restaurant was trying to show us that vegan food can be delicious—it simply IS delicious. Next time we're in Montreal, we'll be back!
In terms of service, it was extremely quick & the decor was lovely. Unfortunately, the food was extremely bland with no distinctive complementing flavors - if you are looking for a vegan ramen place with little to no spice which has its audience - this is definitely the place.
Excellent food. Even my non-vegan friends LOVED it!! & the drinks are amazing!! :)
chic & cozy environment, friendly & helpful staff! Food was incredible. Brought non-vegan friends & they all loved it! Will be back.
