UMAMI RAMEN & IZAKAYA is the very first fully vegan ramen restaurant in Montreal.
Thanks to the import of a Japanese machine for making noodles, the establishment makes its own homemade noodles from organic wheat, in addition to making its broths, Tsukemono, kombucha and sprouts! The restaurant offers several varieties of ramen and small classics of Japanese Bistronomy in a vegan version. Whether we think of okonomiyaki, gyozas, Agedashi tofu or even tempeh Tonkatsu, Cédric and his team are happy to present to you every day, from starter to dessert, these revisited Japanese classics... just a few exclusives straight out of our kitchens. And who says Izayaka, of course, says refreshing beers, sumptuous wines, intoxicating cocktails, delicate sakes and other fine wine products. At Umami Ramen, we experience cruelty-free gastronomy at its best!

A very nice cute & intimate restaurant with really good food & greater service 🎉🎉 We started with Gyoza that was beyond delicious ❤?❤? For the main course I had the Montreal sushi while my partner had Chicken dronagiri & each bite was just perfect 💕💕 To see the chefs make it in front of us was a huge delight ! For dessert we had the chocolate mousse & the cheesecake matcha & it was heavenly 🩷🩷 Cannot wait to go back & try other items in this 10/10 restaurant 😇😇

Umami in Montréal is a vegan Japanese restaurant that really impressed me. They offer a great selection of entrées, cocktails, & several types of ramen. My fiancée & I started with the miso eggplant super tasty & full of flavor. For the main course, we each had a ramen: the spicy miso & the creamy kimchi. Both were rich, satisfying, & really hit that umami spot.
We also shared a dessert, a doughnut with chocolate ice cream & a caramel drizzle. The ice cream was delicious & creamy, but the doughnut wasn't very moist & didn't taste as fresh as we'd hoped.
The only downside overall was the wait time the food took quite a while to arrive. But in the end, the flavors made it worth it, & we'll definitely be back!
I really wanted to like this place but every dish we ordered except for dessert was unsatisfying. The broth for both ramens we ordered was bland. The karage had a very unpleasant texture. The shishito peppers were undercooked. The gyoza & wakame were only okay. Coming from Toronto, I must say it left me feeling super underwhelmed. Service & ambience were otherwise great. But food is most important so I was still bummed.
I ordered the Shoyu ramen Tokyo Style because I was curious about the tomato yolk. But it's too mild to taste any tomato flavour. The yuba is shaped like thick slices of chashu. So this ramen ressemble like a'meaty' ramen. The gluten-free noodles are made of shirataki. For dessert, I had the vanilla soft serve (made with soy milk) with miso caramel. Eaten by itself, the caramel is deliciously salty. I'm very satisfied came for I came for their dessert made with miso.
This was a really fun experience, however I was just a bit disappointed by the food. It was yummy but I was expecting it to be just a little bit more unique. The dessert was a fun experience but for a place that specializes in ramen & similar noodle dishes, I was a bit let down. I would rate the food about a 7.5. That's the only thing keeping me from giving it a five star.
I love this restaurant, & the food is always excellent. The atmosphere is ambient & relaxing, but it's not always easy to get your favourite seats, & it's a little cramped at times. But that also adds to the charm of the place. The staff are pleasant & efficient. My recent visit was to celebrate my daughters birthday, & she was treated with such courtesy. At the end of the meal, they brought her a delicious doughnut with birthday candles in it. I really appreciated that, as my daughter surprised me & didn't order a dessert. I was sad to think she wouldn't be able to blow out her candles, but the restaurant staff took care of that for her! Thank you for a great experience. We will definitely be back!
Excellent restaurant & service parfait.
The atmosphere was very cute! We sat on the covered terrasse (patio). The food was nicely presented & looked good. However the restaurant lost points for the wait time. Also the flavours were really strong & salty & not something I would go back for again. The ramen noodles also lacked the signature chewiness texture. The service wasn't great but the server noticed she had made an error, apologized for the wait & brought us free dessert. While there were many elements that were good about the restaurant - overall the wait time (over 45 min) made it hard for us to imagine returning.
The servers were very kind & helpful. My phone had very low battery & they helped me charge it. They were always super attentive. The food was some of the best I have ever had. I am a big fan of fermented foods so I was very happy they had a side of fermented items, each of them delicious. The ramen was amazing as well, every single item in it had a distinct flavour & they were all fantastic. I had the sorbet for the dessert & it was just fine to be honest, probably wouldn't order it again. However, I will definitely return here!
Amazing Japanese vegan food in Montreal! The service & waitress were amazing too. The mapo tofu ramen & the desserts were delicious!! I strongly recommend & for sure I'll be back to try the whole menu!
My partner & I came for the tasting menu. I would give it a 3/5. Everything was very average. Although it looked aesthetic, the taste was often boring/bland. The best parts were the crepe + the dessert but everything else was something I wouldn't find worth ordering again (it needed more spice or even salt). My cocktail was also not that great. Service was slow but this typically the experience in montreal vs other large cities. It was my second time coming here. The first time I got the ramen & also wasn't the biggest fan of the type of noodle. After coming twice, I don't think it's on the top of my list to revisit. Although I will still make it out for their new gyoza location, as I would like to give it a try. Of course I recommend you to come yourself. This is my friends favourite vegan restaurant in town, but it hasn't hit the mark for me personally.
I got a reservation without knowing it was Montréal à table. So my friend & I got the tasting menu & shared everything. It was mostly hit of miss. First service very fresh. Second service the roll was an explosion of flavors but the side dish with the rice was blander than my breakfast oatmeal. We loved the silky tofu for 3rd service. The highlight was the shitake "steak", so good. The okonomiyaki like many others said before me had good flavor & crunch but it was too salty, can you guys take note of that ? Every single review about the okonomiyaki says that it's too salty. Maybe change something so that the customer change their ratings. Dessert was okay. Drinks were okay, my friend's drink barely tasted anything but I liked mine (goro majima). Presentation of the plates is really beautiful. So I really wanted to try their ramen but I don't think it's worth it to go back for that.
It's a very enjoyable place. We did their tasting menu which didn't include ramen but rather all the sides they offer. Our favorite was the okymiaki & the dessert. Hands down you need to try the donut - best part of the meal. We still talk about it. Our least favorite was the spicy peppers. But I think that could have been because we didn't listen to the instructions & ate the orange spicy one first. I don't think we will do the tasting menu again but will be returning to try the ramens.
