CHAPITRE I
LA LANGUE OFFICIELLE DU QUÉBEC

I really recommend Tula, they have one of the best mango lassis i've ever had! We ordered vegan butter chicken & grandma's curry, & both meals were amazing. The stuff is also incredibly nice, & they are all bilingual.

Abhi runs a wonderful restaurant. The fact that the generous menu is all vegan makes it a treat to visit with my vegan friends. A variety of Indian dishes across all regions are offered (great for foodies), the music & decor are welcoming & relaxing, & Abhi is extremely passionate about serving great food. Looking forward to returning!

Went here with my girlfriend about 2 weeks ago after a screening of Del Toro's'Frankenstein' at the Cinéma Moderne. It was the perfect end to a great night.

Hopefully this place remains a Mile End staple. The owner, Abhi, was a great host throughout. We spent a fair amount of time speaking in French & English about movies & life in Montreal in-between arriving orders.

I'd ordered the Mulligatawny soup & the vegan chicken Tikka Masala, with some potato dumplings my gf had ordered to share. The spices were all perfectly balanced, the food tasted homemade, & the atmosphere was incredibly cozy. I'm not vegan myself, & was pleasantly surprised at how filling/hearty it all was.

We finished off with the rosewater Panna Cotta to share. Overall just a great place, we're absolutely coming back! Merci mille fois encore Abhi!

In Montreal, Tula brings out the best in Indian Vegan food. Each item on the menu speaks quality & appeal to the senses, while the food tastes scrumptious. I enjoy going there for a satisfying meal. Their masala chai is a must.

Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish! This Indian vegan restaurant is a true hidden gem. You can taste the love & intention in every bite from the perfectly balanced spices to the freshness of the ingredients. Every dish feels like it was made with care, not just cooked.

What really sets this place apart is the owner has such a warm, genuine person who goes out of their way to connect with every table. It's rare to find someone who's not only passionate about the food but also about the people enjoying it. You can tell this isn't just a business; it's a labor of love & community! 10/10 recommend, especially if you're vegan &/or gluten free :)

We have tried a lot of vegan restaurants in Canada inspired by Indian culture & this place seems a bit overrated in terms of an overall experience - food, service, price.

Mango lassi was average, the biryani in the thali was dry

Amazing choices for clean Indian food. I only like home-cooked Indian. But this place beats even home cooked. Not a vegan but still loved the place for it clean & authentic food choices. No extra oil, no added sugar. & still the drinks & desserts tasted delightful. The best part was the enthusiasm of the owner. The way he talks about his food shows the dedication. This actually gave me a hope for good, clean eating outside the house. Great work Abhishek, keep the good work up...

Tula was an absolute delight. The restaurant opens for dinner at 5pm & we got there between 5:15 & 5:30; we were the first patrons. The restaurant was packed by 6:30 & we also saw many take out orders. We learned later that the owner & chef/menu creator himself follows a gluten free & vegan diet. This made sense as the menu was 100% vegan & 99% gluten free.
We started with masala chai, which hit the spot after a long day. The chai was served in a little matki (clay pot) & was aromatic.
For our appetizer we ordered the ragda patties, a street food. It was served in a small copper skillet. The dish was made very well with authentic flavors throughout. The potato patties were topped with the ragda (chickpea gravy) & garnished with sev (thin fried crispy noodles made from gram flour) & the traditional green/coriander & sweet/tamrind chutneys. Every bite had flavor. It's a big dish & perfect to share.
For our entree we split two dishes. We ordered the tofu tikka masala & jeera aloo mutter with two rotis (1 regular & 1 gluten free). The tofu tikka masala was seriously comforting. The dish tasted like it was homemade, was packed with flavor from simple ingredients & earthy spices. The jeera aloo mutter is a dry dish & mild. For us it worked well to use the gravy from the tofu tikka masala with the jeera aloo mutter. A simple dish, but very comforting. We were thoroughly impressed with the GF roti! The texture & taste were exactly like regular wheat roti…compliments to the chef for nailing it!
& finally for dessert we ordered what Chef Abhishek called a beautiful choice. The gulkand panna cotta. The flavors of this dessert are inspired by paan. Oh my god, this dessert really was insane. It captured the flavors & textures of paan without being overly bearing on either. The shredded coconut atop the panna cotta was'the icing on the cake.'
We chatted with Chef Abhishek to learn more about his inspiration & compliment him on his restaurant & menu. We learned that Tula means Balance in Sanskrit. He took everyone's orders & would take time to talk to all patrons.
This was an absolute gem. Chef Abhishek also shared his thoughts & execution for lunch/brunch. We wish we could have come back the following day to try out the lunch thali, which looks very unique/creative.
