Butter chicken definitely taste more spicy than what it before, before was more savory sweet
The beef mushroom was lacking beef & mushroom , still taste nice though
Some has definitely change up here
I'd still purchase their pies on occasion. Nice that they are on uber eats
Greeted promptly at the door. Friendly young man working behind the counter was quick to let us know all of the different menu options. All of the fresh pies would take 15 minutes to warm up & prepare, while pies in the case were pre-heated. We opted for the pies in the warming case. They were absolutely delicious, & there were so many different filling combinations to choose from. However, an hour or two after dining (& not eating anything else in between), I was facing some serious stomach issues. I think it would have been wise to wait the 15 minutes for a fresh pie. I have a feeling the one I chose from the case had been sitting out warm all day. The atmosphere is not something to write home about, as the food is better enjoyed as a take-out option. But it is decorated very nicely, for the small space they do have. Be warned, there is no bathroom. The coleslaw was fresh & light. Wasn't too heavy. Yummy crunch to it! My only other criticism would be that the fridges weren't well stocked with pies to take home, & there were only a few warm pies offered in the case.
We used to look forward to our visits to Ta Pies, but our last experience will sadly be our last. Over the past 10 years or more, we've happily enjoyed many Ned Kelly's, Curried Veggies (our favourite) & Butter Chickens. After being away for some months, the pie that we bought today was almost laughable, except that it cost us 31$ for a virtually empty pastry shell. The minuscule quantity of chicken in the butter chicken was, frankly, insulting. If there has been a recent change of ownership, as inferred from a previous review, it is surely not for the best.
A friend strongly recommends the Australian traditional savoury pies from Ta Pies, & there we are. There're many fillings to choose from, we went with the classic beef pie, & it was incredibly satisfying - rich, comforting, & full of flavor.
One nice bonus is that you can also buy the pies frozen to take home & bake yourself, which makes it even more tempting to stock up.
After trying the classic beef, I'm definitely looking forward to coming back & exploring more of their fillings next time.
Edit: is there a new owner!?
Used to be 5 stars. Today had the worst experience. We've moved to the south shore so a Ta Pie visit is more of a treat these days.
Only had a frozen pie not fresh nor the flavour available we usually get mince beef, cheese & bacon. We had to get the Steak version. Being frozen you would think all flavours would be available.
Asked for 3 stacks.
Staff came back with one pot with peas, mash & gravy all slopped into one container 🤷?♂?. We eat as a family & heat & serve the Peas Mash & Gravy individually, it always used to be given as separate containers.
Questioned why is it in one pot. Staff just said reheat that in a microwave. We don't have a microwave & some family members like more of one over the other so we cook & serve them separately.
The sad part is the gravy. It's just Brown StHubert style instant gravy. It used to be grainy & thick based off of the flavour of the beef stock base of the pies. This is just bought in powder style brown gravy.
One star unless the owner can fix the quality issues & the attitude & training of the staff.

Ta Pies never disappoints! Their pies are beautifully baked with buttery, flaky crusts & hearty, flavourful fillings that taste homemade in the best way. The service is always welcoming & genuine, & their lamingtons are on another level - soft, fresh, & simply the best you'll find anywhere. A true gem for anyone who loves quality & comfort.
Absolutely delicious! The crust is golden & flaky, & the filling is rich, tender, & full of flavor. You can taste the quality & care in every bite. The steak & mushroom pie was my favorite - perfectly seasoned & comforting. Friendly staff, quick service, & a cozy atmosphere make it even better. Easily one of the best spots for a hearty, homemade-style meal. Highly recommend!
J'ai eu la chance d'essayer leur pâté bifteck fromage....tout un délice...super frais & tout chaud dans une enveloppe avec le logo ta pie super cool
Little bit hard to get to if you don't have a car. Had a steak & cheese pie straight from the oven. Pastry light & fluffy & filling so great.Good balance of steak a cheese. Would definitely go back
New Zealand cuisine is an extremely rare find in Montreal..well as far as I know this is actually the only place with New Zealand food. It's owned & operated by an Indian family so there are some Indian varieties of the pies as well. I opted for more traditional varieties. I went for the spinach, egg & cheese as well as the steak & cheese. To my surprise I actually preferred the non-meat pie. The steak was made with a tomato-based sauce that I wasn't loving but didn't dislike either, the density of the meat was more like brisket to me. The pie crust is expertly made & the packaging is smart. The place is very small, only a few tight counter seats available & no restroom but that's just a limitation of the address.
The samosa pie was so good & fresh! Perfectly seasoned, crispy, & full of flavor. Definitely recommend trying it - you won't be disappointed!
We were staying across the street & order pies & some roasted veggies to go a couple of times. Very tasty & reasonably priced. Only drawback might be a little light on the filling & heavy on the crust. Enjoyed them though.
Im obsessed with the butter chicken pie. quality is amazing & I swear it has even gotten better over the years! Just wish there was one closer to the west island :)
