At Tourtière Australienne we aim to reconnect Aussies and Kiwis with their favourite pastry items from down under and introduce the locals to something deliciously different! If you've never tried them you're in for a treat! If you've been missing them, the wait is over.
Overall, reviews paint Ta Pies as a go-to spot for hearty, handmade style pies with flaky pastry and rich fillings. Diners praise a wide range of options from beef and steak to butter chicken, spinach and ricotta, and pumpkin, noting that the pastry is buttery and the fillings are fresh, flavorful and comforting. Many appreciate the option to grab pies for takeaway and even frozen pies to bake at home, with friendly, attentive staff and quick service described as a hallmark. The small counter space and lack of dine-in seating or restrooms are repeatedly mentioned, making the place feel better suited to takeout; some suggest the experience improves when purchased fresh from the case and heated at home. While a few pies vary in filling intensity and spice, most reviews call the pies among the best, expressing strong enthusiasm, regular visits, and a willingness to recommend Ta Pies to others.
Absolutely delicious! The crust is golden & flaky, & the filling is rich, tender, & full of flavor. You can taste the quality & care in every bite. The steak & mushroom pie was my favorite - perfectly seasoned & comforting. Friendly staff, quick service, & a cozy atmosphere make it even better. Easily one of the best spots for a hearty, homemade-style meal. Highly recommend!
Little bit hard to get to if you don't have a car. Had a steak & cheese pie straight from the oven. Pastry light & fluffy & filling so great.Good balance of steak a cheese. Would definitely go back

New Zealand cuisine is an extremely rare find in Montreal..well as far as I know this is actually the only place with New Zealand food. It's owned & operated by an Indian family so there are some Indian varieties of the pies as well. I opted for more traditional varieties. I went for the spinach, egg & cheese as well as the steak & cheese. To my surprise I actually preferred the non-meat pie. The steak was made with a tomato-based sauce that I wasn't loving but didn't dislike either, the density of the meat was more like brisket to me. The pie crust is expertly made & the packaging is smart. The place is very small, only a few tight counter seats available & no restroom but that's just a limitation of the address.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, had the steak & cheese pie with peas. Very good pie with a good crust, amazing filling.
Mushy peas are exactly as expected, & quite a good gravy as well.
10/10 would come again.
Wow! The steak & cheese was so delicious! This restaurant is an amazing hidden gem just steps from the foot of Mount Royal. I will definitely be returning!
Lots of pies to choose from (both meat & vegetarian), & some selections of traditional Australian/New Zealand pastries too. I went with the steak & mushroom, which the cashier recommended. I didn't plan on eating my pie right away, & she offered to give me a cold one instead (which is a bit cheaper) & provided reheating instructions too. Really great service!
WOW that filling -- the steak was really tender & the gravy had great flavor. The outer layer of the pie was really flaky, but the inner layers were doughy & seemed raw still even after following the reheating instructions. I guess it wasn't quite baked through the first time? The pie was still fantastic overall, so I'd come back.

Perfect comfort food on a cold & rainy day! I ordered the steak & mushroom pie, the big stack (mashed potatoes & mushy peas with gravy, which was made with red wine I believe, & paired very well with the pie), & a lamington cake (which was quite large). I wasn't expecting to be blown away by a meat pie, but it was truly delicious! Perfectly flakey & not too heavy. The lamington was also delicious! It was decadent but not heavy. My only critique would be that I would've liked a bigger portion of mushy peas. I felt like there were way more mashed potatoes. But all together a great meal & really affordable too! (I delivered on Uber eats & everything was super fresh & warm!)
Visiting Montréal & decided to look up any pie shops for my expat Kiwi husband who hasn't had a "proper pie" in nearly 10 years. The sausage rolls were excellent, steak & cheese pie exactly what he was hoping for (& beyond his expectations), & the addition of a thick shake & lammington put our experience over the top. If you are looking for a true Kiwi sausage roll or pie, this definitely fits the bill! Thank you so much for giving him a little bit of home!
great restaurant & great food.
me & my wife went for dinner.
I had the steak & my wife had the buttered chicken.
we were both happy with our choose.
will go back.

I tried the new location at 5525 Monkland Ave. recently for lunch. Having a hard time deciding which one to choose, I went with the Steak, Bacon & Cheese immediately & took the Lamb Roganjosh & Butter Chicken as frozen pies to try later. The steak was good, meat was tender & flavorful. I had the Lamb Roganjosh for dinner & it was delicious I highly recommend trying this one! I will definitely go back for more. I have yet to try the Butter Chicken but from my experience so far I'm sure it will be good. I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a quick & yummy bite to eat.
