At Tourtière Australienne we aim to reconnect Aussies and Kiwis with their favourite pastry items from down under and introduce the locals to something deliciously different! If you've never tried them you're in for a treat! If you've been missing them, the wait is over.
Overall, reviews paint Ta Pies as a go-to spot for hearty, handmade style pies with flaky pastry and rich fillings. Diners praise a wide range of options from beef and steak to butter chicken, spinach and ricotta, and pumpkin, noting that the pastry is buttery and the fillings are fresh, flavorful and comforting. Many appreciate the option to grab pies for takeaway and even frozen pies to bake at home, with friendly, attentive staff and quick service described as a hallmark. The small counter space and lack of dine-in seating or restrooms are repeatedly mentioned, making the place feel better suited to takeout; some suggest the experience improves when purchased fresh from the case and heated at home. While a few pies vary in filling intensity and spice, most reviews call the pies among the best, expressing strong enthusiasm, regular visits, and a willingness to recommend Ta Pies to others.
New owners replied with a statement defending themselves for poor quality & messed up orders & changes in how things are done is somehow my fault because it was'busy'.
Stock Selection is reduced, I can't get our favourite flavour of Mince Beef, cheese & Bacon. Not'Classic…' I never mentioned the word classic.
The gravy HAS changed, it's thin, simple & brown just like the powered stuff. The original gravy was based off of the pie filling & was thick, slightly grainy from the tomato's & herbs & was real.
They now put all the side dishes in a slop of one pot so the Peas, Mash & Gravy are all mixed up. I've never ordered like this. I would always ask for'A Stack' & I would be asked how many & would say'3' & I would get 3 individual small tubs of gravy, 3 of Mash Potatoes & 3 of Mushy Peas.
I've discovered a better recipe online & will now continue to make a home version of something that used to be a quality treat is no more.
Also they stopped doing all the nice UK/OZ/NZ imported snacks & sweets.
Sad to see a great business fail under new owners.
Greeted promptly at the door. Friendly young man working behind the counter was quick to let us know all of the different menu options. All of the fresh pies would take 15 minutes to warm up & prepare, while pies in the case were pre-heated. We opted for the pies in the warming case. They were absolutely delicious, & there were so many different filling combinations to choose from. However, an hour or two after dining (& not eating anything else in between), I was facing some serious stomach issues. I think it would have been wise to wait the 15 minutes for a fresh pie. I have a feeling the one I chose from the case had been sitting out warm all day. The atmosphere is not something to write home about, as the food is better enjoyed as a take-out option. But it is decorated very nicely, for the small space they do have. Be warned, there is no bathroom. The coleslaw was fresh & light. Wasn't too heavy. Yummy crunch to it! My only other criticism would be that the fridges weren't well stocked with pies to take home, & there were only a few warm pies offered in the case.

A friend strongly recommends the Australian traditional savoury pies from Ta Pies, & there we are. There're many fillings to choose from, we went with the classic beef pie, & it was incredibly satisfying - rich, comforting, & full of flavor.
One nice bonus is that you can also buy the pies frozen to take home & bake yourself, which makes it even more tempting to stock up.
After trying the classic beef, I'm definitely looking forward to coming back & exploring more of their fillings next time.
Ta Pies never disappoints! Their pies are beautifully baked with buttery, flaky crusts & hearty, flavourful fillings that taste homemade in the best way. The service is always welcoming & genuine, & their lamingtons are on another level - soft, fresh, & simply the best you'll find anywhere. A true gem for anyone who loves quality & comfort.
Absolutely delicious! The crust is golden & flaky, & the filling is rich, tender, & full of flavor. You can taste the quality & care in every bite. The steak & mushroom pie was my favorite - perfectly seasoned & comforting. Friendly staff, quick service, & a cozy atmosphere make it even better. Easily one of the best spots for a hearty, homemade-style meal. Highly recommend!
Little bit hard to get to if you don't have a car. Had a steak & cheese pie straight from the oven. Pastry light & fluffy & filling so great.Good balance of steak a cheese. Would definitely go back
We were staying across the street & order pies & some roasted veggies to go a couple of times. Very tasty & reasonably priced. Only drawback might be a little light on the filling & heavy on the crust. Enjoyed them though.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, had the steak & cheese pie with peas. Very good pie with a good crust, amazing filling.
Mushy peas are exactly as expected, & quite a good gravy as well.
10/10 would come again.
Kim & her team of all stars are awesome. The food is so good & they really care to work with you if you have special requests. A huge thank you! The sweet & savoury options are delicious also filling
Lots of pies to choose from (both meat & vegetarian), & some selections of traditional Australian/New Zealand pastries too. I went with the steak & mushroom, which the cashier recommended. I didn't plan on eating my pie right away, & she offered to give me a cold one instead (which is a bit cheaper) & provided reheating instructions too. Really great service!
WOW that filling -- the steak was really tender & the gravy had great flavor. The outer layer of the pie was really flaky, but the inner layers were doughy & seemed raw still even after following the reheating instructions. I guess it wasn't quite baked through the first time? The pie was still fantastic overall, so I'd come back.

It's an ok quick bite if you are in a hurry. The pie filling I chose was beef & it was unexpectedly flavourful. The pie shell is not the best. It lacked flavour. I was not very impressed overall! They have many different filling options. I think you should try if you appreciate pies.
Absolutely incredible! This place is a meat pie paradise. Every bite is a burst of savory perfection. The crust is flaky & buttery, & the fillings are rich & flavorful. From classic beef to exotic lamb, they've mastered every recipe. The staff is friendly, & the aroma alone draws you in from the street. If you're a meat pie enthusiast, this is your mecca. Five stars all the way!
Ordered a classic beef & a beef bacon cheese to try - They were so good that on the way back to the car, we had to stop to pick up a few frozen pies for later. Soft, flakey, & the filling is tender & delicious. About $8 a hand pie is very fai

Great Australian pie shop right next to Jean Mance park! The dough is very good, & the filling is really tasty. Served in great little cardboard holders to eat on the go. The people are very kind! Vegetarian options, but no vegan options.
Nicely decorated little shop. Staff were nice & very friendly. I was told the butter chicken is the best seller but honestly didn't think it really blew me away. Would recommend the classic beef though. Buttery pastry shell stuffed with delicious fillings. They have the frozen/refrigerated pies if you want to stock up the fridge with quick but filling meals.
