The restaurant has a very cool aesthetic & great atmosphere. The staff were all very attentive, professional, & helpful. All the food was absolutely amazing! What is striking about their maki is the progression of flavors you get with every bite. You can taste each expertly prepared ingredient. There are a lot of Japanese & sushi options around, but Hidden Fish is an absolute must to try!
I've rarely written a bad review ever but this place deserves one. Food & service were so underwhelming compared to the value you're getting. This restaurant ruined my last meal of my Montreal trip. If you're out of town & looking for a good sushi spot, save yourself & just go somewhere more affordable with better sushi. We have had many good sushi/omakase in the past & even had them in Japan. So trust me, when I eat a good sushi, I know it's good. We came to this place with high expectations & were willing to splurge on good sushi since they had a good google review. However, our food was so underwhelming. We ordered scallop sashimi - so mid compare to the price we paid, Crab Maki - so mid. It was our least favourite dish & the portion is so small for the price. Chef's choice nigiri - we had high hope for this since it was a whopping $88 for 2 people (12pieces). It was okay, some was good, but it wasn't anything amazing at all. Considered the price, it's not worth it AT ALL. The service for a high end restaurant is also really bad. We ordered only 3 dishes, but everything took over 30 mins to arrive. The last dish, took 1.15 mins to serve which was INSANE. In addition, Nobody really checked up on us until the end of the night. Even more affordable restaurants had a better service than this place. Again, I wouldn't trust these google reviews at all. If you want to have a good night with reasonable priced, & higher quality sushi, please look elsewhere. Save yourself & look for another restaurant. Thank you.
Every dish was exquisite. We were going to cancel our reservation because we had a flood at home from the big storm but we would have been charged $50 for canceling 24 hours before. We weren't happy about that & kept our reservation. In the end, it was a much needed culinary escape from our troubles & we thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails & courses of sashimi, nigiri & makis.
Everything I had here was special. I ordered green salad, 12 pieces (6 kinds) of sashimi, scallop hand roll (temaki), & seared albacore Maki (8 pieces). Fish was fresh.... But also prepared very well. The waiter, Matthew, knows so much & helped me to choose. He is very knowledgeable. I loved this place. Absolutely recommended.
Amazing experience. Sat at the sushi bar & enjoyed watching the Chefs work & insightful information on how the fish is prepared. We went with the Chefs choice sashimi & nigiri & finished with a nice Maki roll. Top Notch service & food...exactly what we were looking for.

I appreciate the manager's thought for moving us to a more intimate/romantic table following our reservation, the sushi rolls were delicious (highly recommend the wagyu maki, wow!). Service was friendly, there is a nice romantic atmosphere, perfect place for a date night with a partner. As the waiter said I won't ever be able to eat sushi the same elsewhere haha. Loved our dinner & my partner enjoyed the sushi as well!
Merci.
Service was attentive & respectful. Did not catch the waiter's name but he was knowledgeable.
Salmon noodle - refreshing & well presented
Premium 24 pc sashimi - fatty tuna texture was not good. It was fibrous causing the fish to get stuck in teeth as opposed to simply melt in mouth. The wagyu was well prepared, & better than what I had in Japan. Hamachi with the citrus emulsion was my preferred fish in the ensemble.
Uni from BC was quite fresh.
nigiri with scallop & foie gras - partner had it. She said it was fantastic. A bit overpriced in my opinion at $25 a piece. Maki - ridiculously overpriced (triple to what I am used to paying) for the flavor. I wasn't impressed with this at all. The rice that came with scallop maki was hard. the Unagi torched maki was better, but partner found it too sweet.
Just way overpriced. Also, the payment machine did not allow for dollar amount tipping. Default option of tipping begins at 18%...Standard is 15% on the SUBTOTAL.

This was my second time going to Hidden Fish. After I got home from this recent visit I left a review with Libero (online reservation company Hidden Fish uses) & did not get any response from the restaurant to my complaint. So I will repeat it here. First off I will state the good. The restaurant put us at a very nice table after I mentioned one person in my party had mobility issues & was immunocompromised. Secondly, the hostesses & wait staff overall were friendly & polite. Thirdly, although the quality was fine & we enjoyed our meal it was not as good as the first time we went (in the fall) which absolutely blew our minds. In the fall we only had a la carte nigiri. A lot had to do with size of the nigiri & selection you get with the Chef's Choice. The size of the Nigiri for the Chef's Choice is about a third smaller than the Nigiri a la carte. So if you have the funds I would opt for the a la carte Nigiri. I would say you'll spend more (perhaps ~ $1 more per piece) this way but enjoyment level will be elevated substantially. Of course the more expensive the nigiri the better it is. Also I found the maki had mostly rice & little fish. This included the eel & the albacore. The Oro King maki was good with more fish. We ordered the Premium Sashimi; Chef's Choice Nigiri; several maki; additional nigiri plus drinks; the total bill with tax & tip was ~ $750 for 4 people (which included a total of 84 pieces; 3 mocktails & 1 cocktail). The big issue is we were cheated. Our very last order was Oro King Nigiri & O Toro Nigiri (one of the most expensive nigiri). We saved the best for last. Those are our favourites particularly the O Toro. Note that the waiter takes the order but another person serves all the plates & points out the name of each piece of fish. This "naming" woman looks very serious with microphone attached to her head & a demeanor befitting an army sergeant. She named every piece of fish (with military precision) for every plate & platter that came out. We had the O Toro in our Premium Sashimi & which was pointed out & named. So we had all seen what it looked like. Yet when we ordered another O Toro nigiri it was not O Toro it was Chutoro (fatty tuna vs medium tuna). We ate it & didn't say anything. I like Chutoro & it was good but it wasn't what we ordered & of course there is a difference in price with O Toro being more expensive. Also the O Toro along with salmon are the fish that I could identify easily even before this meal. When the bill came I saw I was charged for O Toro not Chutoro (which is what we were given). Up to this point everyone enjoyed the meal. It was New Year's Eve. Why make a fuss? But when I got home I thought about it & thought WHY would they do this? The chef may have made a mistake with the order (although I find that hard to believe since they are professionals) But the server (who knew her fish) pointed to it & said it was O Toro when it wasn't (when she had named it correctly in the Premium Sashimi just minutes ago). So that was a flat out lie. Note that the restaurant was not busy at all. She was not pressed for time or stressed. So of course this has now put a damper over the whole experience. If you are like me I don't like to be cheated or lied to. It made me wonder if other fish was given to us which weren't what she said they were? So what do I think about Hidden Fish? I am truly very disappointed in an establishment that thinks it's okay to cheat or pull a fast one over their customers.
Food was exceptional but service was horrible. The team didn't advise us that another reservation was coming up. The waiter came up to us saying it was awkward to get us out as we were almost done our makis. I asked him if we could get the dessert & he said no. He spoke to management & there was nothing they could do. The least they could do is offer something on the house. It's not our fault that the food came out slow.
This was a great spot for amazing sushi, sashimi, maki etc. The prices are quite high but worth it for the quality of food you're getting. It was genuinely the best sushi we've ever had! Also sat at the bar & got to watch them make the food which was very cool. Would visit again!!
A very nice resto, chic & cozy ambiance. The staff is very professional & friendly. Our waiter was very delightful & helpful. Most of our orders were suggestions from him according to our preferences of fish. The scallop lemon maki & the steak spiced blue fin tuna were a-m-a-z-i-n-g! Would definitely be going back. It may be a bit on the pricier side, but given the type of cuisine (sushi) & especially for its quality, it's totally worth it. Besides, eating sushi was never on the cheap side... you pay for the quality :)
Cote sashimi c'etais tres frais.
