The sushi here is fantastic! Amazing presentation, amazing flavor, & you can get aged kanpachi which is one of my faves. Even though I typically just get nigiri & sashimi, we did try one of their rolls & it was also of amazing quality.

However the atmosphere is not at all what we're used to in Japan & California--it's a weird mashup of European formal & Japanese. The lighting is dark & the atmosphere quiet.

Sitting at the sushi bar is NOT like what sitting at the sushi bar is supposed to be. There is no interaction with the sushi chefs, even though they are right there. & we had to order from a waiter by the nature of sitting at the sushi bar, stood behind us--which makes for an odd, detached experience.

All that said, it is the best nigiri & sashimi I've been able to find in Montreal so far.

Amazing experience, the service was amazing. Our server & bartender were knowledgeable & attentive & great to chat with. I had the aged premium chefs choice sashimi & the chefs choice nigiri; along with a few of the premium nigiri options. Well worth the price tag, an overall exceptional experience all around. I'm a huge cocktail & sushi enthusiast; The bartender explained some of his signature cocktails & i was very pleased by the drinks provided, they were creative & delicious. Our server was helpful giving us ideas of places to explore in the city & was very friendly. The fish quality & freshness, presentation, timing of plates & courses, & atmosphere left nothing to be desired!

I had an amazing experience at Hidden Fish in Montreal. This place is truly a hidden gem! The sushi was the best I've ever had-everything tasted incredibly fresh & absolutely bursting with flavor.

The atmosphere was great, making it a perfect spot to relax & enjoy high-quality food. A special shoutout to our waiter, Rudy, who was friendly, attentive, & very helpful throughout the meal. His service really elevated the whole experience.

I would highly recommend Hidden Fish to anyone looking for outstanding sushi in Montreal. I'll definitely be coming back!

This is absolutely one of the most amazing place I would recommend for outstanding sushi. However, on my first visit with my daughter, I requested an otoro substitution. The waiter was fantastic & offered a suitable option, as it wasn't possible to substitute. We had a fabulous experience, the waiter made me have memorable moment with his care & knowledge & that's exactly why I returned on Wednesday.

This time, I made the same request, but the waiter was somewhat rude & cold. I mistakenly insisted that it had been done before. Later, after speaking with my daughter, she made me realize that I was wrong. The first time, I had received a 12-piece nigiri platter with 2 pieces of otoro on the side. While my misunderstanding may have contributed to the situation, it does not excuse the waiter's attitude.

My waiter (I think his name was Max, I cant remember) had mentioned that he had four years of experience, & I believe someone with that level of experience should have understood better & shown more empathy. In contrast, the first waiter handled it with professionalism & found an option that worked for me.

Despite the great quality of the food, I will not be returning after this experience. This is the reason I am rating this restaurant 3 stars even though I believe that I should put 1 star only, I would have rated it 5 stars if it had been based solely on my first visit with that wonderful gentlemen that took care of us.

This is, without a doubt, the best sushi experience I've ever had & not just in Canada.

I've tried countless premium sushi spots across different countries, & Hidden Fish still stands at the very top for me.

I first visited about a year ago & returned again this week, & the quality has remained exactly the same: absolute perfection. Not even the slightest drop.

From the moment you walk in, the experience is thoughtful. The hostess is warm, very welcoming, & genuinely engaging.

The ambiance & interior strike a perfect balance, refined & elegant, yet comfortable. It feels luxurious without being intimidating or pretentious.

The service continues to impress throughout. The staff know the menu inside out. Even when simply shown a picture, they can immediately identify the dishes. They also give precise, thoughtful recommendations that are actually spot on. They're attentive, quick, & efficient, yet never rushed. Friendly, but with just the right level of professionalism & boundaries.

& then, the food.
The nigiri are truly out of this world! Each piece feels like a complete journey. It starts with one flavor & sensation, evolves midway into something new, & finishes with a lingering final note. It's incredible how much depth & progression can exist in a single bite.

The wagyu was the best I've ever had! You can literally taste the quality. It's not just good, it's craftsmanship at its highest level.

The sashimi & maki are equally exceptional. With this place, there's no risk of ordering the wrong thing. Every dish delivers. Nothing feels average or forgettable.

This place is a true gem.

I dont think I will experience a better sushi dinning experience in my life. The price is quite high for one night out, but for the experience sitting at the sushi bar, & the extraordinary quality of food you are getting, everything was more than well worth it.

I came here twice. Amazing sushi & beautifully presented dishes. The pieces are slightly on the smaller side, but the flavor is absolutely perfect. The nigiri was definitely the highlight for me, a must-have if you're visiting! The ambience & decor are beautiful as well.

You can really see the care & precision in the cuts & the details of each piece. It is on the higher end price-wise, but worth it for the quality. I would personally skip the crab appetizer next time simply because it didn't wow me like the sushi did.

Overall, such a great experience & I'll definitely keep coming back!

My wife & I decided to try this establishment & set a reservation. The place was packed walking in & one of the hostesses (short blonde-haired girl) almost plowed my wife over trying to go by with no regard. Just focused on where she was headed, I assume but still. Ironically on our way out the same hostess was coming back through & again almost knocked my wife over & bumped me as I pulled my wife out of the way. Again, no regard. I honestly think she didn't even notice, just so focused. So, my suggestion would be to be aware of your surroundings so you're not trampling the patrons.

The pictures of the space are misleading. I thought the space would be bigger. It made it feel like you were on top of others. Nice quaint dark charge just compact. I had reserved the sushi bar. Now we had expected to be able to see what the chefs were doing but due to the height of the wood bar that was impossible. Also, we had expected a more personalized experience as where the chefs interact as had previously at other Japanese restaurants in Jamaica, the U.S. & while living in Japan. Here they just make up the orders. I would suggest a table to anyone since they do not interact, you're just getting a lot of noise. Also, you are in a high traffic spot for the employees coming & going from the back.

All this aside the real surprise was the menu. It is unique as previewed online via their website prior to make a reservation. But found to be misleading/poorly formatted. The section for Sushi Rolls be it 6 or 8 pieces, at the top of each respective page states in red with parenthesis (6 pieces) & the other page (8 pieces). Below are the various rolls laid out with next to each one in red with parenthesis either a (6) or (8) depending on which page you are on. Now I assumed this was the price per roll as I found most menus in Montreal have a format of i.e. 00, 00.00, (0), (0$), 00$, & 00.00$. With a few in place of the $ sign using CAD. I did not think that if a page is already labeled at the top that anyone would format redundantly the amount given. & the actual price is 4 times that. Now I am not saying they aren't making a quality product. It was all very delicious. Presentation was impeccable but honestly to us it wasn't over the top or within reason of the price. I would have to say this is the most expensive sushi I have had. I believe mine was 37 CAD ($27 US). In the U.S. typically I'd say rolls range from $6-$20 USD. The cost didn't really matter, just wasn't expecting it. & again, the rolls are unique, normally not found elsewhere & were delicious. I just think the website should reflect the price of & not the amount when itis already stated, it is just misleading. Also note if your look at the drink's menu online, there are no parenthesis but to the right of each beverage item in red is a number indicating the price. So, you really shouldn't have it on one menu then be different on another.

Drink wise I started with NIKKA MIYAGIKYO PEATED 2021 SINGLE MALT for 35$ (25 USD). I had never heard of it, but I like smokey drinks. A quick check showed this bottle goes for around $250USD. So, I'd say the price equates properly. But I also based this on a shot (being 1.5oz or 44.4ml). When it came out in the standard 6oz whiskey glass it was barely visible. I'd guess based on having these glasses maybe 1/2 an ounce. So, someone either really mis poured or...... I hadn't even tasted yet when another server (we had 2 it seems) came by & asked if I would like another drink & went to take the glass. I said I hadn't even tried it yet. He apologized & said he thought the glass was empty, so that is saying something. On the note of drinks, under sake you can find 300ml DASSAI 45 JUNMAI DAI GINJO for 85$ ($62 USD), this generally sells for about $35 USD. Literally around the corner @ Gyu-Kaku (Japanese hibachi) they sell it on their menu for (300ml) 55$ ($40 USD). Hidden Fish is a 42% markup over retail.

Now dessert, amazing. Nothing like it. The mouse cheesecake was divine. I would go back just for this.

It's been almost three years since this place has been on my list, & I'm so happy I finally discovered it. I absolutely loved the experience from start to finish.

The sushi is truly high quality. Everything was incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, & full of flavor. You can really feel the care & precision behind every dish.

What genuinely surprised me was the price. For this level of quality & experience, it was lower than I expected, which made the evening even better.

Our waiter, Rey, was excellent & made the experience even more enjoyable. Attentive, knowledgeable, & genuinely kind, he added a personal touch that made us feel very well taken care of.

An amazing experience overall & definitely a place I'll be coming back to. 🍣✨

An absolutely beautiful sushi spot with an elegant atmosphere. The chefs are Japanese, & you can truly taste the authenticity & craftsmanship in every dish. The menu offers a great selection of different dishes. We had sashimi & maki rolls. Everything was fantastic. Maki had unique combinations & were perfectly balanced & delicious. Plating was beautiful. A wonderful place for a special evening or simply to enjoy high-quality, beautifully prepared sushi.

A Masterclass in Culinary Orchestration & Hospitality

Visiting from out of town, my son & I were searching for a definitive sushi experience in Montreal. From the moment we stepped into Hidden Fish, we were met with a level of hospitality that was as immediate as it was genuine. Despite not having a reservation, we were welcomed without hesitation & seated at the sushi bar, the best seats in the house to witness Executive Chef Haruo & his team operate like a finely tuned orchestra.

While the entire staff was exceptional, our primary server, Matthew, was instrumental in making the evening perfect. He ensured every detail was attended to with grace, striking the ideal balance between professional attentiveness & warm engagement. Under his care, the service flowed seamlessly, allowing us to focus entirely on the culinary artistry.

The precision of the kitchen is matched only by the complexity of the flavors. Several'movements' in this performance were particularly standout:

Hokkaido Scallop Sashimi: A delicate balance of textures where the Miyoga & Ikura provided a sophisticated brightness against the Tosazu dressing.

Miyazaki A5 Wagyu Tataki: Truly exceptional. The roasted garlic & garlic-ginger BBQ sauce enhanced the richness of the A5 beef without overshadowing its quality.

Chutoro Nigiri: A masterstroke of simplicity & melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Salmon Gravlax Maki: A highlight of creative engineering with salmon marinated with beetroot. The combination of Kizami Wasabi, fried onion, & Akazu vinegar rice created a complex, multi-layered sensory experience.

Chef Haruo & his masterful team, anchored by Matthew's outstanding service, have created a venue where technical excellence meets heartfelt hospitality. This wasn't just a meal; it was a sensory experience that outshone any sushi encounter we've had before. We will be returning to Montreal specifically to sit at this bar again.

This place is the real deal for high end sushi. Don't expect to get away cheap here, but you will be amazed at the quality & experience. From wagyu to aged sushi, trust your server. They will guide you on an experience.

The ambiance is great casual fine dining laid back. We had a party of 7 & it was approximately $150 CAD per person.

Amazing food. The pictures show why. The sushi chef is awesome.

Overpriced & not worth it. We enjoy fine dining a few times a month & don't mind spending more for quality food & a good experience but that's not what we received here. Some of our meal was fishy & my partner spend his night with an upset stomach. Service was so-so.

I would say the recent reviews about this place going downhill are true. We have been here a few times over the last few years & absolutely enjoyed our meals, spending hundreds per person each time. Premium prices but ok for us if the food is good. Tonight however we were quite disappointed. We ordered the 3 person chefs selection nigiris, & the selection was a bit cheap - a third of it was sea bream & a lot of it was the cheaper fish. I think we paid more as a chefs selection than if we had selected the nigiri's ourselves. The chutoro was fishy & so was another one of the maki's. We had flagged this a few times & were told they would tell the chefs but the response was a'the tuna is normally more fishy'. (I've eaten high quality sushi all of my life in Vancouver & Japan - that's not true). On the plus side we really enjoyed our dessert. Maybe it was an off night but even after politely expressing our concerns nothing was really done except for trying to gas light us into thinking fishy tuna at this price point is normal. Will not be returning.

A real hidden gem! Our new sushi place for sure! Loved the amazing decor & atmosphere! The service was phenomenal. Friendly & attentive! The staff work really well together. They hardly miss a beat. & we took a spicy margarita which we highly recommend. We judge restaurants by the quality of their cocktails & they unknowingly met the challenge. Also, the sushi was delicious. The Crab maki roll was my personal favourite out of 4 maki rolls. Looking forward to trying some different ones next time. Ryan was our fantastic server. Dessert was very good too. Thank you 😊

It's hard to believe it's already been over two years since we first discovered this place! Not once have we ever been disappointed.

Finding truly fresh & high-quality sushi in Montreal can be quite challenging, so we were pleasantly surprised when we found this hidden gem. I'm originally from Korea, & I honestly didn't expect sushi here to be this fresh & delicious. It reminded us so much of the amazing sushi we used to enjoy back home ! maybe even more special in its own way. My sister will be coming to Canada soon on a working holiday, & I can't wait to bring her here. I know she'll love it just as much as we do!

This time, my husband & I visited to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, & everything was absolutely perfect. The staff & the head chef were incredibly kind & thoughtful 💕🎀 thank you so much for celebrating this special day with us! You made it an unforgettable & heartwarming experience.

The food was, as always, exceptional, but what truly made the night so memorable was the kindness & warmth of the chef & the servers. They created such a welcoming & happy atmosphere that made everything taste even better. 💕

Without a doubt, this is our favorite restaurant in Montreal. 🩷🩷🩷
