The food itself was good, but the service experience was extremely disappointing. Our order was mixed up & ended up on another table, & we weren't checked on for about an hour. Eventually we found out the order had been lost in the system & had to be remade.
When it finally arrived, mine was unfortunately undercooked/raw & had to be sent back. While the kitchen clearly has potential based on the quality of the food, the overall experience was frustrating & disorganized.
I hope they can improve their communication & order management, because the service issues really overshadowed what could have been a great meal.
J'ai adorée mon expérience à ce restaurant. Les serveurs , l'accueil était au rendez-vous. Ils nous ont accommodés sans problème & avec le sourire ! Merci à votre équipe. & que dire du rib eye, de la salade César & des choix de vins ! C'était succulent & généreux. J'ai passée un beau moment pour mon dîner d'anniversaire, je le recommande ! 😊 ambiance , cozy, chic tamisée & bonne musique de fond.
Total rookie server..spent $700 on a table for 4, had to ask for everything, food mediocre at best. No way would i recommend.
Everyone was very friendly & helpful. Its a busy spot so suggest getting reservation.
I had ribeye & mac & cheese... probably the best steak i ever had. The mac was creamy cheesy & flavorful. I enjoyed my meal very much.
My son had the beef tartare & bone marrow. Said it was best beef tatar he has had as well
The server gave us a warm welcome but from there it went downhill.
My filet mignon was charred & tasteless although it was cooked at the right temperature. In the menu it said that every steak came with confit cherry tomatoes & horseradish. When the steaks arrived at our table they were missing both of those components. Our sever told us the horseradish was gratted over the top which we could barely see & asked if we wanted her to bring us the tomatoes on the side. Well for $60+, yes I would like to have all the components I am promised on the menu on my plate. She was nice enough to bring us a few tomatoes & some actual horseradish on the side. However, the cherry tomatoes were not confit, they were barely cooked & my garlic mushrooms lacked garlic.
Next, my mother is lactose intolerant. She wanted to order the salmon but it was made with a cream sauce. They told us everything except for the risotto was easily modifiable. They said the cream sauce could be made without the cream, but the salmon came out with no sauce at all. She asked to replace the brussels sprouts with mushrooms as she has trouble digesting them but her plate came out with brussel sprouts & a few mushrooms over the top. Thankfully when we sent it back it took little time for them to fix the mistake.
The only good part were the drinks & the half cornish hen. We also had the seafood mix for our appetizer, way overpriced but good.
The cooks need to be trained better because when you order $60+ steaks you expect something juicy, perfectly seasoned & not charred. As for the servers, please ask them to look over the food before it is brought out to ensure everything is as it says on the tickets. Again for the price of these plates, the service has to be immaculate.

I've been coming to Sel Noir regularly & it never disappoints. The steaks are consistently on point, perfectly cooked, full of flavour, but honestly the mac & cheese deserves its own mention. Rich, indulgent, & the perfect companion to whatever cut you order. The drink menu is where they really surprise you though, unique cocktails you won't find just anywhere, & they're as well-crafted as the food. Add in attentive service that makes you feel like a regular & a vibe that's moody, lively, & just plain cool, & you've got a spot that's hard not to come back to. If you haven't been, go. If you have, you already know.
Accueil fade. Plus de 15 minutes d'attente avant d'avoir d'avoir quelqu'un pour prendre nos commandes. & plus de 30 minutes d'attente avant d'être servi. Or les autres tables se faisaient servir rapidement. Ça frisait la discrimination!
Frites trop sèches & grillées servies.
The food was delicious, no complaints there. However, the service downgraded as the night went on. We had our personalized menu, which ended up being 75$ per person as long as we ordered what was from the personalized menu. We were still charged more than what was written, & some of the servers were not honest with the prices (saying that a dessert was included within the 75$ when it wasn't). Lastly, the servers would neglect half of our table. When I asked if they would serve everyone else, they responded by saying that it wasn't necessary since the end of our reservation was coming up, although we did have time.
Superbe expérience chez Sel Noir à Montréal. Les plats étaient délicieux, raffinés & parfaitement exécutés chaque bouchée était un plaisir. Le service était incroyable, attentionné & chaleureux du début à la fin. Une adresse que je recommande sans hésite

I went a few months ago. Seating was very awkward, probably due to having a birthday party happening that night. Everybody kept walking past us & the music was loud. Food was good, prices decent.

Côté cuisine, tout était absolument délicieux. Les plats sont savoureux, bien présentés & préparés avec des ingrédients de qualité. On sent vraiment le soin apporté à chaque détail.
L'ambiance du restaurant est chaleureuse & accueillante, parfaite pour une soirée réussie.
Je recommande vivement - autant pour la nourriture excellente que pour le service remarquable de Gabriel. J'y retournerai sans hésiter !
The food was excellent, & the ambiance was somewhat unexpected for a steakhouse, more like a bar, with dim lighting & a lively, inviting atmosphere.
The only downside was how strictly they manage table time. There's a two-hour limit, & you're asked to leave once it's up. Since we were a large group, it took some time to get served at the beginning, which unfortunately made the end of the evening feel rushed.
There seems to be a disconnect between the pace of service & the pressure to turn tables quickly, with reservations perhaps scheduled a little too tightly for groups of six to eight.
Je suis allé célébrer mon anniversaire au Sel Noir samedi dernier. Le service reçu fut impeccable. Notre serveuse était très à l'écoute ( Joëlle si je ne me trompe pas). Nos verres d'eau étaient tjrs pleins, elle venait nous voir pour savoir si tout était ok de façons très courtoise & professionnelle, toujours ayant le sourire au lèvres! Xavier aussi, service incroyable, au petit soin! LA NOURRITURE, sans mot. J'ai pris le risotto au homard & crevette. Certaines ont pris de la viande & j'ai eu la chance d'y goûter. C'était delicieux. L'ambiance était conviviale, tamisé, festif mais pas trop. Excellent restau. Bon vibe.

J'ai réservé à ce restaurant pour la première fois & je vous le recommande fortement!!! Nous avons réservé tardivement pour un souper à 2, un mercredi soir tranquille & nous avons été tellement bien accueilli, un service de qualité & tout les choix que nous avons fait sur le menu étaient juste incroyables!!! Nous avons mangé la pieuvre grillée, un filet mignon ( EXCELLENT!!🙂 ) , les choux de Bruxelles ( WOW ) & le ribeyes ( EXCELLENT 😮?💨). Ils nous ont également proposé de superbes sélections de vins. Amateurs de viandes… à essayer absolument.
