Review Summary

Satu Lagi is widely praised as a standout Indonesian and Malay restaurant in Montreal, with a tapas-style format that encourages sharing and a menu that balances authentic flavors with modern flair. The dining experience is noted for extensive gluten-free and lactose-free options, appealing to celiac diners and those with dietary restrictions, and for dishes that are described as delicious, aromatic, and well balanced with lemongrass, coconut, and chili notes. Standout items include satay skewers, rendang, gado gado, nasi lemak, kailan bakar, jamur jamur, and pandan crème brûlée, along with a coconut rice base and flavorful poultry and seafood. The drinks program earns praise for creative cocktails and Indonesian coffee, though a few reviews mention that sambal can be very spicy and some dishes can feel pricey. Ambience is described as stylish and intimate with a lively open kitchen and terrace options, and service is generally attentive, with occasional notes about busy periods or slower weekends. Overall, Satu Lagi comes across as a reliable go-to for a vibrant Indonesian-Malaysian dining experience in Montreal, especially for groups or special occasions and brunch.

The nasi lemak here is amazing. I would say this is the only truly authentic Indonesian food in Montreal, & it tastes so good! The flavors are rich & authentic, & the sambal is perfectly spicy & bold.

Their kopi susu is also delicious, & honestly, everything we tried was great. The service is really good too. I would definitely come back again!

Tried out Satu Lagi, the only Indonesian restaurant in town, for a weekend brunch. They have a spacious outdoor terrasse. Mains are $18.00 to $26.00.

- Matcha latte ($6.00)
- Kaya toast & onsen egg ($10.00) - not authentic according to my Singaporean friend
- Rendang eggs benedict ($26.00) - rendang was okay. Side salad wasn't satisfying
- Nasi lemak ($23.00) - tiny portion
- Pulau pain perdu ($22.00) - standard fare

As an Indonesian, its close to the real taste back home with a bit of adjustment. So far, we really enjoyed our dinner, service was good & pleasant, & will definitely go back next time we are in Montreal.

Came here for brunch. Friendly & accommodating staff. Cute decor, great music (never thought I'd hear Just Jack at a resto again haha).
I had the Malaysian main & it was delicious. Their iced Indonesian coffee was smooth.

Food was decent, got a little taste of everything. The chicken with hot sauce was fantastic, a great combination.
The meat in rendang was too shredded for my liking despite the strong taste of lemongrass & rendang flavor.
The vegetable was slightly underwhelming. This is probably due to the lack of wok fire.
The crème brûlée texture wasn't quite right, it was a little curdy. However, the taste was good.
Overall, a restaurant that provides a unique experience for Indonesian Malaysian food.

I came here with my husband for dinner & we ordered the rendang & kangkong belacan-both were delicious & full of flavour. The service was attentive & we enjoyed sitting outside. The only small thing I'd point out is the sambal. As an Indonesian, I found it very mild compared to what I'm used to back home. It still tasted great, but I missed that extra kick of spice. Overall though, a wonderful dining experience & we'd be happy to return.

We were happy to eat here, but I don't think we would be back again. Much of the food was good, but none of it was outstanding. The fried chicken in particular was way overly sweet - honey drenched - & the other dishes were good, but nothing wowed us except the lemon grass appetizer & the fried mushrooms. The service was perfectly good but impersonal. The atmosphere would have been good, but that they played 70s American rock ballads, & it just felt very incongruous in an Indonesian restaurant. Not being Indonesian ourselves, & not having an Indonesian server, it was hard to tell what was authentic & what was not.

Nice restaurant, great service, but a bit pricey. creative takes on Indonesian cuisine - I liked the idea of serving sambal as an appetizer. However, coming from the Netherlands where Indonesian food is common, I found the main dishes rather'underwhelming':

The Rendang lacked its usual bold flavors & tasted like a mild beef stew with coconut/peanut. The Marinated Beans were tasty but undercooked & rather pricey. Still worth the visit though…

Special note : their online reservation system asked if it was a'special occasion' - it was my anniversary - but there was no follow-up at the restaurant. Better to skip the question if it doesn't lead to anything...?

An Indonesian evening feast kicks off with bold flavors:
- A vibrant assortment of sambal for every kind of heat-lover
- Juicy Daging skewers, marinated in lemongrass & turmeric
- Crispy Jamur Jamur, golden oyster mushrooms dusted with fragrant spices

Each bite is a punch of spice, crunch, & comfort, a perfect way to start the night. 🥰

I had the pleasure of dining at Satu Lagi during my visit to Montreal, & it was truly a highlight of the trip. The flavors were bold, authentic, & exceptionally well-balanced. The gado gado was a standout-fresh, vibrant, & dressed in a perfectly creamy peanut sauce. The satay was grilled to perfection, tender & full of rich, smoky flavor.

The drink selection was equally impressive, with thoughtfully crafted cocktails & a solid variety of alcoholic options that paired beautifully with the meal.

Beyond the food, the staff were absolutely wonderful-warm, attentive, & genuinely passionate about what they do. Their hospitality made the experience all the more memorable.

Satu Lagi is a must-visit for anyone seeking high-quality Indonesian cuisine in Montreal. I'll certainly be returning.

We truly enjoy dining at Satu Lagi whenever we are in Montreal. The authentic Indonesian cuisine is a major highlight, & the service is consistently excellent. My son particularly enjoys talking to Om Dana, who speaks Bahasa Indonesia, which makes our visits even more special.

We always make time to visit Satu Lagi to savor our favorite dishes. We love the ayam goreng & iga bakar, while my husband is a fan of the gudeg nangka. Our absolute favorite, however, is the Bebek Goreng, which is unfortunately not on the menu at the moment. We hope it will be available again soon.

Overall, Satu Lagi provides a delightful dining experience that keeps us coming back. It is highly recommended for anyone craving Indonesian food.

We went there for dinner. For the atmosphere & service, it's a bit expensive. The portions are ridiculously small. Especially the Sambhal, 4 tiny portions of sauces which lacked flavour & were not spicy at all. Chicken satay was good. All you can taste is the coconut milk in the beef rendang. It was a bit too much. The rice was very dry & crunchy. There was hardly any salt. At times it was confusing as what to add or mix to get it right. Being a big fan of Malaysian & Indonesian food, I was very disappointed. Also, the most popular dishes were not on the menu.

Loved that opportunity to get some really well prepared Indonesian food. This restaurant is gluten free.

Fried mushrooms is a must. Decently authentic. The people who left poor reviews of brunch aren't used to Malaysian-Indonesian breakfast. Nasi lemak & Kaya toast with almost raw eggs are staples

One of the greatest options for Indonesian restaurants in Montreal. 1. Proper portion size. 2. Servers are pretty friendly. 3. Pretty tasty & proper presentation.

I'm Indonesian from Vancouver, & i would say this is the best Indonesia-Malaysia restaurant in Canada. The taste & the vibe just like home. Would really recommended for Indonesian who come to Montreal to try this restaurant. Try their ibu-ibu cocktail!
