At la Khaїma (nomad tent), at 142 Fairmount in Mile End, we enter into a nomadic world, a journey through colors, flavors and sensations. Once inside, African music accompanied by a rich fragrance emanating from the kitchen complete the multi-sensory experience that transports you to the Sahara. Couples can enjoy an intimate setting while large groups benefit from Moroccan salon comfort, eating from a long, low table.
The founder, of Mauritanian origin, greets guests and his joie-de-vivre warms the atmosphere. The cuisine is African with a nomad touch. Dishes are prepared with local products following the “Slow Food” concept, creating uniquely spiced tajines that offer an unparalleled taste experience. In accordance with the tradition of the desert, guests share large platters tasting all the flavors on offer, with enough to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.
Come discover La Khaima’s unique refreshing drink made from the hibiscus flower and their mint tea. These marvelous drinks, in addition to mezzes are available by day at Khaїma cafe, 148 Fairmount. It is a meeting place where you can enjoy comedy nights, music and film screenings. Follow us on Facebook to discover upcoming events.
La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade offers a unique and authentic dining experience that transports guests to the Mauritanian desert through its warm decor, relaxing ambiance, and flavorful, generous servings. The restaurant is well-regarded for its traditional sharing-style meals, including delicious couscous and comforting lentil soup, accompanied by refreshing hibiscus juice and traditional mint tea. Many visitors appreciate the welcoming and attentive hospitality provided by the staff, often describing the atmosphere as cozy, homey, and perfect for groups. While some guests find the floor-style seating and fixed-menu format to be specific to the nomadic theme, the overall consensus highlights the restaurant as a hidden gem in Montreal that provides a memorable and soulful culinary journey.
Amazing restaurant! Really really loved the food & the atmosphere/ mood of the place. Owner was super nice. Felt it was expensive for couscous but nice for an occasion.
& on peu déguster plusieurs plats différents.
La cuisine était un peu copieuse pour une chaude journée d'été, mais somme toute vraiment savoureuse.
I love that there wasn't a menu, we didn't know what to expect but the chef came & told us all about what he's making!
The fact that for $35/person you get hibiscus iced tea, mint tea, hummus, soup, & an entire platter is insane. It was plenty
The place is very clean & cozy. You get an awesome experience that makes you feel like you're back home 😊
Saad - you made our day!!! You were so welcoming & explained a lot to us & took pics for us & gave us laughs, & thanks for teaching us all about the place & Mauritania! 🇲🇷 Wishing u all the best!!!
I really can't wait to visit Montreal again so I can come! 😊 🇲🇦 already craving the food I wish we had something like this where I live!
We randomly decided to try African cuisine & ended up at this restaurant, even though we honestly weren't very hungry. The chef came to our table & took so much time to kindly explain the menu & the concept behind the tasting experience. When we mentioned that we probably didn't have enough room for the full experience with appetizers, mains, & dessert, we told him we'd rather come back another time when we were hungrier.
Instead, he surprised us with such a thoughtful gesture & told us to stay, offering us a complimentary smaller version of the experience so we wouldn't leave without trying their food. The food was absolutely delicious, but what truly made the evening memorable was the warmth, generosity, & passion behind the service. Such a beautiful & genuine experience.
The atmosphere at Khayma was absolutely beautiful & unique. It felt warm, authentic, & very welcoming. The traditional decor created a wonderful experience, & the ambiance was relaxing & enjoyable. A perfect place to spend time with family & friends. Highly recommended! 🥰Alhamdulillah ..
Went there twice, & honestly the experience was really nice both times. The restaurant decor is amazing a mix of heritage Mauritania /North African style that feels warm & very welcoming. The seating is ground style, which makes it feel very homey & perfect for a relaxed group meal.
The food comes as a set sharing plate (couscous with chicken, vegetables, & lamb), which I personally really enjoyed all of them! Everything was flavorful & satisfying, & the portion was actually enough for about 3 people.
Don't miss the hibiscus it's really refreshing They also offer free tea after the food, which adds a nice traditional touch to the experience :)
Service was very good, & overall the place works really well for groups. It's the kind of restaurant you go to for both the food & the experience.
