At la Khaїma (nomad tent), at 142 Fairmount in Mile End, we enter into a nomadic world, a journey through colors, flavors and sensations. Once inside, African music accompanied by a rich fragrance emanating from the kitchen complete the multi-sensory experience that transports you to the Sahara. Couples can enjoy an intimate setting while large groups benefit from Moroccan salon comfort, eating from a long, low table.
The founder, of Mauritanian origin, greets guests and his joie-de-vivre warms the atmosphere. The cuisine is African with a nomad touch. Dishes are prepared with local products following the “Slow Food” concept, creating uniquely spiced tajines that offer an unparalleled taste experience. In accordance with the tradition of the desert, guests share large platters tasting all the flavors on offer, with enough to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.
Come discover La Khaima’s unique refreshing drink made from the hibiscus flower and their mint tea. These marvelous drinks, in addition to mezzes are available by day at Khaїma cafe, 148 Fairmount. It is a meeting place where you can enjoy comedy nights, music and film screenings. Follow us on Facebook to discover upcoming events.
La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade offers an immersive North African and Mauritanian dining experience with generous shared couscous dishes, lentil soup, and meat stews, complemented by mint tea and hibiscus juice, all prepared with care in a warm cocooning setting that transports guests to another world. The chef and staff explain the menu with patience and make diners feel welcome, while the decor, music, and atmosphere enhance a distinctive authentic vibe. Portions are hearty, prices are fair, and the bring your own bottle option adds flexibility. Vegetarian and vegan options are available, and the overall experience blends home style cooking with generous hospitality that makes guests want to return.
Good food & vibe but 3 main issues:
- owner lied about the price (there's no menu) advertising $32 for us to learn it was actually $38 after we sat. That's petty haggling
- sure benches are authentic but make it VERY uncomfortable to sit with long legs.
- was honestly just too much money for a soup, couscous & tea…
Food was good (coucous a bit dry) & atmosphere is definitely special.

A very unique dining experience, & one of the only places you can try food from Mauritania 🇲🇷 in the world. I'm so glad I met the owner he's a great guy. It's a fixed menu, but there are many courses & the beverages are phenomenal. I would highly recommend this experience & I would love to visit again in the future.

Amazing food , Amazing service, Amazing music & beautiful decorations & amazing food that speaks to your heart gently, a true hidden gem in the heart of Montréal,unforgettable experience.

The service & atmosphere are extraordinary, along with the food. The place is just gorgeous. Today the restaurant staff & owner were accommodating of a special request, which they obliged at their expense with characteristic warmth & care. Amongst the best in Montreal.

A hidden gem for sure!! My sister has been going here for years & blessed my taste buds by taking me along with her. This is some of the best food I have ever eaten & the service is incredibly friendly. The workers are very prompt & kind, I felt right at home. The beef date stew was UNREAL I'm forever dreaming of it. The starters of hummus & lentil soup with pita were divine. I was so stuffed & cannot wait to come back, this place is a must!!
Très belle découverte! Ambiance & experience vraiment chouette.
Very charming restaurant with a very tasty set menu & a cozy atmosphere. Some of the best hummus I've ever had, & very tasty sweet beef as well. The staff were very kind of sauced us a second serving of mint tea
