At la Khaїma (nomad tent), at 142 Fairmount in Mile End, we enter into a nomadic world, a journey through colors, flavors and sensations. Once inside, African music accompanied by a rich fragrance emanating from the kitchen complete the multi-sensory experience that transports you to the Sahara. Couples can enjoy an intimate setting while large groups benefit from Moroccan salon comfort, eating from a long, low table.
The founder, of Mauritanian origin, greets guests and his joie-de-vivre warms the atmosphere. The cuisine is African with a nomad touch. Dishes are prepared with local products following the “Slow Food” concept, creating uniquely spiced tajines that offer an unparalleled taste experience. In accordance with the tradition of the desert, guests share large platters tasting all the flavors on offer, with enough to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.
Come discover La Khaima’s unique refreshing drink made from the hibiscus flower and their mint tea. These marvelous drinks, in addition to mezzes are available by day at Khaїma cafe, 148 Fairmount. It is a meeting place where you can enjoy comedy nights, music and film screenings. Follow us on Facebook to discover upcoming events.
La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade offers a unique and authentic dining experience that transports guests to North Africa with its warm, homey atmosphere and traditional Mauritanian-inspired decor. Many diners appreciate the communal, fixed-menu style, featuring generous portions of flavorful couscous, rich lentil soup, and fresh hummus, all served with genuine hospitality. The hibiscus and mint teas are frequently highlighted as refreshing standouts, and the overall vibe is consistently described as cozy, welcoming, and perfect for groups. While the seating style is unconventional and some visitors suggest checking the menu policy beforehand, most patrons find the experience memorable, heartfelt, and well worth repeating.
An unique restaurant experience ❤?
Perfect for a big group because the food is served on a big shareable platter.
There is no menu, you trust the chef. Every day, the menu changes. You always get a base (I got couscous & I think there's also rice) & always 3 different sauces (I got beef, chicken & a vegan option).
You remove your shoes before sitting & the seats are low cushioned benches.
Absolutely amazing food, drinks, & tea! We loved the service as the chef & owner made it his duty to explain the menu to us & made it a very personal experience. The atmosphere was incredible. From the moment you walk in, you feel that you're transformed into Morocco with the authentic decor, furniture, & even the seating. We thoroughly enjoyed the culinary experience & cannot wait to return for another visit to what is now our favorite Moroccan restaurant.
I love that there wasn't a menu, we didn't know what to expect but the chef came & told us all about what he's making!
The fact that for $35/person you get hibiscus iced tea, mint tea, hummus, soup, & an entire platter is insane. It was plenty
The place is very clean & cozy. You get an awesome experience that makes you feel like you're back home 😊
Saad - you made our day!!! You were so welcoming & explained a lot to us & took pics for us & gave us laughs, & thanks for teaching us all about the place & Mauritania! 🇲🇷 Wishing u all the best!!!

We randomly decided to try African cuisine & ended up at this restaurant, even though we honestly weren't very hungry. The chef came to our table & took so much time to kindly explain the menu & the concept behind the tasting experience. When we mentioned that we probably didn't have enough room for the full experience with appetizers, mains, & dessert, we told him we'd rather come back another time when we were hungrier.
Instead, he surprised us with such a thoughtful gesture & told us to stay, offering us a complimentary smaller version of the experience so we wouldn't leave without trying their food. The food was absolutely delicious, but what truly made the evening memorable was the warmth, generosity, & passion behind the service. Such a beautiful & genuine experience.
Super restaurant de cuisine mauritanienne nomade préparée avec soin par le chef, & décor incroyable qui nous transporte ailleurs le temps d'un moment. :)
A marvelous scene that makes you plunge into North African culture right after you step inside. It's a country inhabiting a restaurant. Very generous portions too! It's also so special to see how the chef/owner himself greets you & tells what he has cooked for the day. This authentic contact with the patrons is really difficult to find these days. Absolutely recommend it! They also have the apportez votre vin option!
I walked in & was greeted warmly right away. I asked the chef if I could get served food within 10 minutes because I was in a rush, & he smiled & reassured me it'll be ready in 1 minute. He told me the options. I picked the vegan vegetables & couscous. It was ready in 1 minute like he said & tasted great & the portion was really decent. The sitting areas were relaxing, beautiful & spacious. He checked on me to make sure I was happy... Thank you !
Merci!
Amazingly delicious food, the staff & the chef are super friendly, they explained the menu without us having to ask & they really made us feel welcomed. The vibe is cozy & very chill. We will definitely come back!
