At la Khaїma (nomad tent), at 142 Fairmount in Mile End, we enter into a nomadic world, a journey through colors, flavors and sensations. Once inside, African music accompanied by a rich fragrance emanating from the kitchen complete the multi-sensory experience that transports you to the Sahara. Couples can enjoy an intimate setting while large groups benefit from Moroccan salon comfort, eating from a long, low table.
The founder, of Mauritanian origin, greets guests and his joie-de-vivre warms the atmosphere. The cuisine is African with a nomad touch. Dishes are prepared with local products following the “Slow Food” concept, creating uniquely spiced tajines that offer an unparalleled taste experience. In accordance with the tradition of the desert, guests share large platters tasting all the flavors on offer, with enough to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.
Come discover La Khaima’s unique refreshing drink made from the hibiscus flower and their mint tea. These marvelous drinks, in addition to mezzes are available by day at Khaїma cafe, 148 Fairmount. It is a meeting place where you can enjoy comedy nights, music and film screenings. Follow us on Facebook to discover upcoming events.
La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade offers a warm, immersive dining experience that feels like a Mauritanian home in Montreal. The decor is authentically traditional and cozy, creating a welcoming atmosphere where the staff and the owner take care to explain the menu and make guests feel at ease. Dishes arrive in generous, shareable portions as part of a per-person fixed menu that typically starts with a lentil soup and continues with a richly flavored couscous platter, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Flavors are described as comforting and vibrant, with mint tea and hibiscus drinks often highlighted as perfect finishers. The setting is friendly and intimate, with guests welcomed to bring their own wine and prices that are considered very reasonable, making it a memorable spot to explore North African and Mauritanian cuisine with family or friends.

Large capacity, beautifully decorated restaurant. We ordered the mixed set menu to share. Flavourful & generous portions. Vegetarian fare available. Surprisingly busy for a freezing Monday night.
The decor transports you to a totally different world, so warm & welcoming. The lentil soup was perfect, tasty & a little filling. The main dish (chicken & olive stew on top of couscous & beef & date stew on top of couscous) were so filling & freshly made. Absolutely worth it. 5/5 for everything. Loved it. Also, the service was super fast, we were served within 10 min & I'm so glad because I was starving & left satisfied

Unique experience in Montreal-both the setting & the food are of very high quality.
On top of that, the service is always excellent, with kind & generous staff who take their time with you!
Something to keep in mind: there's a single shared dish featuring meat, so it may be less suitable for vegetarians-although there's usually a way to make it work.
I've been to La Khaima four times & never get tired of it.
Un de mes restaurants préférés de Montréal. Service incroyablement sympathique & chaleureux. Bonne bouffe. Prix raisonnable.
Merci beaucoup!

A hidden gem in Montreal, this Mauritanian restaurant offers an authentic African dining experience that transports you straight to the heart of the continent. The moment you step inside, the warm ambiance, traditional decor, & carefully curated atmosphere immerse you in a blend of North & Sub-Saharan African culture. The calm & welcoming environment, paired with a friendly & skilled chef & team, makes every visit special.
The menu features rich, flavorful dishes, including perfectly prepared couscous & aromatic tea, served with a touch of Mauritanian hospitality. Whether you're here for a casual meal or a cultural experience, the setting, food, & atmosphere make you feel like you're sitting in a traditional African gathering, surrounded by the essence of both dessert & savanna life.
Moroccan style food is excellent with generous portion, in a warm & decorative atmosphere. Having said this, the online menu does not exist nor is it applicable at the restaurant. It is automatically a table d'hôte au $30 a person. Price is different from online posting. When asked, the waiter says same price for past 3 years, & laughs of the question. The waiter provided cocky answers & comments when questioned about this , belittling any questions on subject Having enough leftovers for 3 small containers for the 3 ladys, I mentioned we would take the pitas in the dish, to accompany the leftovers, as he was removing it from the table. He asked me if I wanted to take the chrome dish. In an attempt to ridicule my pita request. Not very professional customer support.
What a joy to come here, the decor is unique, you feel you are in a tent in the Sahara dessert. The food is excellent, couscous that is flavorful & delicious, & as an added bonus, everything is gluten free! The owner Atigh is a gem, a great person with a kind heart. My son absolutely loves this place, the date beef & lentil soup are fantastic!

Merci
The owner went above & beyond to make us feel welcomed! Not only was the food flavourful, the decor & atmosphere made it even more enjoyable! We are visiting from Toronto but next time we are in Montreal, we will be sure to visit again!
Decor & ambiance is fun. The food was average. The lentil soup was a little blend, couscous was extremely salty, tea was way too sweet. Service was impeccable.
