About

At la Khaїma (nomad tent), at 142 Fairmount in Mile End, we enter into a nomadic world, a journey through colors, flavors and sensations. Once inside, African music accompanied by a rich fragrance emanating from the kitchen complete the multi-sensory experience that transports you to the Sahara. Couples can enjoy an intimate setting while large groups benefit from Moroccan salon comfort, eating from a long, low table.

The founder, of Mauritanian origin, greets guests and his joie-de-vivre warms the atmosphere. The cuisine is African with a nomad touch. Dishes are prepared with local products following the “Slow Food” concept, creating uniquely spiced tajines that offer an unparalleled taste experience. In accordance with the tradition of the desert, guests share large platters tasting all the flavors on offer, with enough to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.

Come discover La Khaima’s unique refreshing drink made from the hibiscus flower and their mint tea. These marvelous drinks, in addition to mezzes are available by day at Khaїma cafe, 148 Fairmount. It is a meeting
place where you can enjoy comedy nights, music and film screenings. Follow us on Facebook to discover upcoming events.

Review Summary

La Khaïma Cuisine Nomade offers a unique and authentic dining experience that transports guests to North Africa with its warm, homey atmosphere and traditional Mauritanian-inspired decor. Many diners appreciate the communal, fixed-menu style, featuring generous portions of flavorful couscous, rich lentil soup, and fresh hummus, all served with genuine hospitality. The hibiscus and mint teas are frequently highlighted as refreshing standouts, and the overall vibe is consistently described as cozy, welcoming, and perfect for groups. While the seating style is unconventional and some visitors suggest checking the menu policy beforehand, most patrons find the experience memorable, heartfelt, and well worth repeating.

Absolutely amazing food, drinks, & tea! We loved the service as the chef & owner made it his duty to explain the menu to us & made it a very personal experience. The atmosphere was incredible. From the moment you walk in, you feel that you're transformed into Morocco with the authentic decor, furniture, & even the seating. We thoroughly enjoyed the culinary experience & cannot wait to return for another visit to what is now our favorite Moroccan restaurant.

Atigh is such a warm & welcoming host, we loved the whole experience! The vibe & the wall of books has you feel like you're dining in someone's home. My favorite parts of the meal were the lentil soup & the hibiscus mint iced tea.

The staff was so incredibly friendly & kind, serving us fresh hot delicious mint tea & refreshing stawberry mint tea. The restaurant is so beautiful & welcoming. They do fixed menus & have vegetarian options. Definitely coming back!

Amazing food, super authentic. Everything is made from scratch in their kitchen even their hibiscus drink is made from the finest of hibiscus flowers from back home. Br Atigh is one of the best Moroccan people I have met. His hospitality is top notch. He told me about so many interesting things about how his food is made & I was in awe to eat such a great dish from his hands!
Their tea is one of the best teas we have tried, definitely try it out:) I will definitely feature br Atigh's story on my Dining Discoveries with Laylo on YouTube. So worth to experience this beautiful restaurant if you are in Montreal or visiting the city:)

10/10 beautiful experience!

I love that there wasn't a menu, we didn't know what to expect but the chef came & told us all about what he's making!

The fact that for $35/person you get hibiscus iced tea, mint tea, hummus, soup, & an entire platter is insane. It was plenty

The place is very clean & cozy. You get an awesome experience that makes you feel like you're back home 😊

Saad - you made our day!!! You were so welcoming & explained a lot to us & took pics for us & gave us laughs, & thanks for teaching us all about the place & Mauritania! 🇲🇷 Wishing u all the best!!!

I really can't wait to visit Montreal again so I can come! 😊 🇲🇦 already craving the food I wish we had something like this where I live!

Went there twice, & honestly the experience was really nice both times. The restaurant decor is amazing a mix of heritage Mauritania /North African style that feels warm & very welcoming. The seating is ground style, which makes it feel very homey & perfect for a relaxed group meal.

The food comes as a set sharing plate (couscous with chicken, vegetables, & lamb), which I personally really enjoyed all of them! Everything was flavorful & satisfying, & the portion was actually enough for about 3 people.

Don't miss the hibiscus it's really refreshing They also offer free tea after the food, which adds a nice traditional touch to the experience :)

Service was very good, & overall the place works really well for groups. It's the kind of restaurant you go to for both the food & the experience.

Good food & vibe but 3 main issues:
- owner lied about the price (there's no menu) advertising $32 for us to learn it was actually $38 after we sat. That's petty haggling
- sure benches are authentic but make it VERY uncomfortable to sit with long legs.
- was honestly just too much money for a soup, couscous & tea
Food was good (coucous a bit dry) & atmosphere is definitely special.

Very charming restaurant with a very tasty set menu & a cozy atmosphere. Some of the best hummus I've ever had, & very tasty sweet beef as well. The staff were very kind of sauced us a second serving of mint tea
