A lunch well spent at Olive & Gourmando in downtown Montreal on Wednesday; July 1, 2025; which happened to be CANADA DAY. It was a planned school friend's reunion, & it turned out absolutely perfect.
It's easily one of the best brunch/lunch spots in the city. Even when it's busy, the line moves quickly, & the atmosphere is bright, cozy, & full of energy with a lively open-kitchen vibe. The staff are warm, attentive, & efficient, which made our gathering even more enjoyable.
The food was outstanding across the board. The sweet ricotta was a standout, & everything else-from the fresh, well-balanced plates to the ultra-flaky pastries-was packed with flavor. The coffee is top-notch & pairs perfectly with their baked goods. Prices are on the higher side, but fair for the quality & central location. Overall, truly worth the visit & a place I'd happily return to again.
The banana bread matcha was excellent! Also really enjoyed the sweet ricotta with brioche.
Really lovely little spot that felt very welcoming with a friendly team. I ordered the banoffee French toast & it was really, really good! The ricotta so perfectly balanced the intense sweetness of the caramel & banana, & the crunch bits of seeds & nuts made the whole thing a textural joy. The coffee was pretty good as well, although not quite in the same league as the food ⭐?⭐?⭐?
Such a lovely brunch spot in a perfect location in Old Montreal. The menu is simple but still offers plenty of options for different tastes. The sweet ricotta was amazing & definitely a highlight. They also make excellent coffee & pastries, which makes it hard to go wrong with anything you order.
The atmosphere is cozy, the service is kind & attentive, & everything felt welcoming. We were very happy with our experience. They do not take reservations, so it can get quite busy depending on the day, but it is well worth the wait.
Really fantastic place. I had the homemade ricotta, & i personally wish there was more bread with that dish. Fantastic little spot in Old Montreal.
Pretty darn good!! Had a fabulous ricotta dish of some sort (can't remember the name). Only complaint is for the price there should have been one more slice of bread. For optics. & for my belly
7.5. Egg panini with no meat was great & would order again. Chicken melt pretty good but not on the famous panini bread. Grilled cheese was great. Salty ricotta was great
No wait for me as a single party on a weekday, although it was extremely crowded & busy. Loved the window seat in the sun. Fast & friendly service! It was a bit overpriced though. I got the'salty ricotta' & I feel like it was definitely not the most impressive item on the menu, but it was good enough I might want to come back to try other items (on my company's dime :P) not sure if I would come here if it was my own money.
Came in Monday morning for a quick breakfast when the restaurant was half-empty. With at least 5 empty tables the 4 of us were offered to sit at the bar table on hard wooden stools with no back support so we asked for regular tables & initially were offered 2 small tables pushed together which would have been great but then our hostess decided to sit all 4 of us at a table for 2. No explanation & no consideration. That's just part 1. Add to this a very slow services with 3 staff members wondering aimlessly & not getting the last sconewitch that we ordered & were told was available & you understand that staff don't know what they are doing or just don't care. Food was ok but not exciting with sweet ricotta sprinkled with salt & iced coffee that couldn't be made with cream for some strange reason. In other words I would not come here to eat & not recommend it. We ordered takeout the day before & that was quick so that's what I would recommend if at all.
Warm & welcoming! The moment you enter the good aromas & friendly staff greet you. It's clean & well lit without being overly bright. Service was excellent. The food was excellent. I had the housemade ricotta with marmalade & delightfully light, perfectly toasted local bread. I spooned up every last bit. My friend had the Tex Mex Chili Frittata came with slided avocado, which was also incredible, & filling. Topped with fresh watercress & a side of soft warm bread. The barista was skilled. I enjoyed one of the best cups of hot chocolate ever! We have found our favourite Old Montreal breakfast haunt.
The sweet ricotta toast & Cubano were delicious, but difficult to justify $70 for this & two coffees (dine-in).
Stepping into this cozy, modern café felt like a warm embrace & the food was the chefs kiss. I ordered the salted ricotta & butternut squash soup, & it was an unforgettable experience for my taste buds . The Salty ricotta, something I wouldn't typically choose, turned out to be a revelation-creamy & flavorful, & perfectly balanced with the bread & sweet salad mix. Pairing it with the butternut squash soup elevated the meal to one of the best I've had in Montréal. My partner, opted for a double portion of the kids' mac & cheese, (because he doesn't like mushrooms) & it was rich, cheesy, with the perfect amount of crisp. He declared it one of the best mac & cheeses he's ever tasted. I couldn't resist one of their dark chocolate cookies, which was everything a cookie should be: soft, rich, & satisfying. The service was warm & attentive, making the entire experience even more delightful.
Their ricotta salad was so yummy (5/5). The pain au chocolat was a 4/5 & the tea also very good. Prices are really really high: the salad alone was 25 CAD as of 2024 (remainder for the simplistic Europeans, price is without taxes & tip).
Olive & Gourmando in Montreal is a fantastic spot for a casual yet gourmet meal. The cozy, vibrant atmosphere makes it a great place for breakfast or lunch. Their fresh pastries & creative sandwiches are top-notch, with salads such as the salty ricotta & homemade pastries being standout items. The coffee is excellent, & the service is friendly, though it can get busy, so expect a wait during peak hours. Overall, a must-visit for anyone craving high-quality food with a relaxed vibe in Old Montreal.
The 25 minute wait was worth it & exactly the amount of time they quoted! Great atmosphere with perfect sound level & music. Ricotta toast was perfect balance of sweet & savory. Cuban panini bread was incredible & the sandwich had a nice spicy kick! Will definitely be back.
Don't Forget Your Almond Croissant. This quaint little spot always seemed to be hoppin'. A bit of a wait if you try to go for brunch on the weekend, but worth it. There are a variety of delicious pastries as soon as you walk in the door & a larger menu if looking for sit-down breakfast or lunch. The espresso was flavourful but inconsistent each time we stopped in for it. The whipped ricotta with orange honey & toast was quite nice, but make sure to order something that will help cut through that sweetness (like a coffee). Our favourite item happened to be the almond croissant. Something we went back for multiple times. You could taste the real butter as the flakey layers of almond deliciousness melted in your mouth. Oh how I wish I had one right now.
