Food is not bad. Dry Ramen was a favorite! The combination of super umami-ness from the tobiko & the well seasoned smooth noodle is really nice. Tonkotsu was okay, definitely not super authentic at all if you're looking for one. We also ordered a few side dishes like gyoza & karaage to share, there were great!
We had the Karaage, Takoyaki "nachos" & Tonkotsu. The Tonkotsu arrived to the table about 5 minutes before the appetizers which was a little strange, but everything was served within ten - fifteen minutes of ordering. The Tonkotsu was very flavorful, maybe slightly too salty, but still very enjoyable. The noodles & the egg were done perfectly! Noodles had a soft & chewy texture, egg was soft boiled to perfection, & the creamy broth coated everything nicely. The meat could have been more tender & flavourful, but it wasn't bad by any means. Next came the Takoyaki "nachos". I'm a big fan of Takoyaki, we asked if we could get it traditional, without the "nacho" part, but we were told it's not possible. It's 4 pieces in total, fried with Dorito crumbs, covered in sauce, sliced fresh jalapeno, & bonito flakes. I usually love bonito flakes, but these ones were SO smoky & overpowering that I couldn't taste the Takoyaki or the sauce. Seriously unpleasant in my opinion, I felt like I ate a spoonful of liquid smoke. The Karaage was good, well battered & very tender, served with an interesting aoli, however, still not what I was hoping for. (If you love Karaage, check it out at Gyu Kaku. *Chefs kiss*). The atmosphere was great, we loved the lighting & decor, & the service was friendly but if I'm being honest, the best part of the meal was who I ate it with. Overall, I'm glad we tried it, but wouldn't go back.
The neotokyo extra was tasty. Noodles very fresh. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The miso ramen was a bit too salty for my taste & the portions were a bit small, which is why 4 stars instead of 5. Would still come back though!
Went there for a business lunch. Had the Neotokyo Taiwanese Mazesoba. It was amazing, highly recommend. The noodles were perfect, fresh & al dente. & the sauce was to die for. Atmosphere is good & the waitress was really nice & helpful.
Heads up: No Reservations & No Cash. Great place to dine in for some sides to share; we had pork gyoza, kuyri no sarada (cucumber salad), chili shrimp wonton, chikua (fishcake mozarella) tempura, karaage & edamame. We all tried Mazemen (brothless/thick noodles) Neotokyo Mazesoba (Beef soboro), super delicious. Refreshing ice cream as desserts. Special shoutout to Edween & Mary.
One of the best Ramen place in Montreal. Downside is : Hard to find a parking nearby No reservation & it is usually packed The light is not the best for photos Now the goodies: Generous portion Great taste Excellent & flavourful broth Tendy & chewy noodles Nice atmosphere & music is not too loud Definitely recommend & will come back
First, if you want to get into this no-reservations resto, show up fifteen minutes prior to opening. Also, skip lunch. The portions are generous & the food unctuous. We had one traditional ramen soup (great broth), one dry noodle dish that has a little bit of everything added to it, & one bacon cream noodle. All were superb. Starters were nice too: fried chicken, cold eggplant & dumplings. If you do have a starter, a 2-main-dishes / 3 people might be the way to go. Adding this to my favourites list. Oh, appreciated the retro 1930s-40s music! Attentive friendly service too.
Come here for the cyberpunk vibes, not the food. The salmon mazemen is one of the worst noodle dishes I've ever tasted. There was nothing wrong with the salmon or ikura on their own, but the sauce they used was so fishy. The noodles were cold & on the firm side, so unless you REALLY love the taste of raw fish, the whole dish will taste like the stench of a fish market. The only redeeming dish was the spicy karaage. It was crispy & the spiciness level was just about right with a tinge of sweetness. However it was not good enough to forget about the unpleasantness of the mazemen. This place is usually busy too, so expect a long wait to get in & get your food.
The ramen was absolutely fantastic. The service is very very friendly & the food came quite quickly.
The counter is a really nice place to sit & watch everything come together.
All in all, this is more than a noodle bar/ramen shop & more of a full experience. I will totally be back.
I had the pleasure of dining at NeoTokyo in Montreal during my recent vacation, & I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. At first, I was a bit skeptical as the restaurant didn't seem to offer traditional noodle dishes, but I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible culinary experience that awaited me.
The menu at NeoTokyo is a delightful fusion of flavors, blending traditional Japanese cuisine with modern twists. Each dish was a work of art, beautifully presented & bursting with unique flavors. From the moment I took my first bite, I knew I was in for a memorable dining experience.
However, what truly elevated my dining experience was the exceptional service provided by our waiter, Benjamin. He was not only knowledgeable about the menu but also passionate about the food & its origins. Benjamin's recommendations were spot-on, & his attention to detail ensured that every aspect of our meal was perfect.
The ambiance of NeoTokyo was also worth mentioning. The sleek & modern decor created a sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere, allowing us to relax & fully immerse ourselves in the culinary journey.
Overall, NeoTokyo & our fantastic waiter Benjamin left an indelible impression on me. The innovative & delicious dishes, combined with Benjamin's impeccable service, made for an unforgettable dining experience. If you're looking for a unique & exceptional dining experience in Montreal, I highly recommend NeoTokyo.
Came in the restaurant on a sat around 10:15 & got a table around 10:25ish ,they closed at 11. Service & vibes were definitely there no complaints on that end. Tried the speciality neotokyo Taiwanese mazeboba, had a nice variety of toppings so kudos however it tasted mid to me, onions were overpowering & the dish itself seemed bland (some type of sauce could have been incorporated more). If they left sauce on the side could be nice. So overall 6/10 for that dish. We also ordered the salmon noodles dish, I was really disappointed at how plain of a dish it was. It was literally just cured salmon, fish eggs & noodles with I think just oil. This dish could use more textures & sauce for sure. Don’t get me wrong it’s ok but not what I expected & anyone could make this if I’m being honest. So for this 5/10. I guess to each it’s own. Overall review service 10/10, Atmosphere 10/10 & food 6/10
