It was one of the best meals I've had in my lifetime!
The pickles, coleslaw & bread are almost enough for a meal & they are delicious!
I had the cod & creamed corn.
Best ever!
My husband had the bone in rib eye.
Best steak he's ever had. Put The Keg to shame!
Please open a Moishes in Toronto! We need this!
Stumbled into Moishe's on a quiet Sunday morning before the lunch rush, & the dining room already had that lived-in warmth you only find in places that have been doing things right for decades. The dry-aged ribeye I ordered was textbook - properly rested, beautifully charred on the outside, & pink all the way through without being asked twice. The waiter, an older gentleman who clearly knew the menu cold, steered me toward the house-made pickles as a starter & I was glad he did. If you travel enough to know the difference between a steakhouse that's famous & one that actually earns it, Moishe's is firmly in the second category.
My first visit to Moishes Restaurant did not meet the expectations of the original establishment on St. Lawrence Street.
Upon arrival, I encountered an issue with parking. When I parked my car, my wife was not assisted in opening the door. The parking fee was $23, which was not included in the initial charge.
The restaurant's atmosphere was also disappointing. The tables were made of wood without tablecloths, & the chairs were uncomfortable. The service was adequate but unremarkable. My wife enjoyed her rib steak, while I found the filet mignon bone in to be far from the quality of the original Moishes Steakhouse.
A significant issue arose when the waiter presented the bill. Instead of displaying the subtotal before taxes, he presented the full total, including taxes. This practice is not only against the law but also against Quebec's tipping customs.
The overall atmosphere was cold & uninviting, & the staff's demeanour was similarly unfriendly. This experience did not reflect the standards of the original Moishes Steakhouse. It appears to be a standard steakhouse that should reconsider its name. $450 with tip plus $23 valet
Friendly, efficient service. The ribeye was delicious, juicy, well cooked (ordered medium), well seasoned & most importantly not too salty. They offered the option to add additional salt & spices to my own taste & preference but I found it was not required for my own palate. I also got a complementary red wine sauce to pair with the steak but still found that the steak stood well on its own.
Ordered a side of garlic mash potatoes that paired nicely with the steak. Appreciated the complementary bread & butter, coleslaw & a crispy pickle served prior to the appetizer & entree. The waiter was also diligent in refilling my glass with water & checking in on my needs, including a refill of the complementary add ons (I decided to request another pickle). He was also kind enough to strike a general conversation about the city & giving tips on touring the area.
I'll be back here with family the next time I visit Montreal. Thanks for the pleasant visit & dining experience.
MOISHES!!! This restaurant is the sole reason why I would come back to Montreal. The attentive service, the DETAIL & the thought that is put in to every cocktail, every dish & every step of service. At Moishes, it was all about uncommon care from the moment I walked in. I was greeted with a glass of champagne at the bar; & started off with Oysters Rockefeller. It was absolutely delicious. I was then greeted by David; & we were chatting about my time in Montreal & insisted that he would take care of the wine when I ordered my dinner. Hospitality is the name of the game; & he was wonderful! The bartenders were absolutely TOP TIER. Kind, & had a genuine interest in the guest's experience.
The caviar topped deviled egg, the shrimp cocktail, were great; but, the real star of the show….A Cherry Smoked Short Rib. This was one of the best meals I have ever had in my life. The ambience food service ; everything from start to finish was SUPERB. Well done! I cannot wait to be back.
The restaurant is beautiful, with a great atmosphere, & the service was good throughout the evening. We started with the cauliflower steak appetizer, which was good & well prepared.
For the main course, we had the rib steak. It was cooked to perfection, exactly as ordered, though it wasn't by far the best I've ever had. The side of asparagus was lacking flavor & could have used better seasoning.
Overall, a nice dining experience with good service, but there's some room for improvement.
A very refined steakhouse with an elegant atmosphere & excellent service. The ribeye was outstanding perfectly cooked, flavorful, & clearly of high quality. The desserts were also a highlight; the chocolate praline cake was exceptional, easily one of the best I've had in a long time.
That said, this restaurant is definitely on the expensive side. For a steakhouse, the prices are quite high, & you are essentially paying a premium for the quality of the meat. Our bill came to around $400 for two people. Given the price point, it would have been appreciated if sides, such as potatoes, were included rather than ordered separately.
Overall, despite the cost, the food quality, service, & ambiance were excellent, & the experience was very enjoyable. I would return for a special occasion, knowing what to expect in terms of pricing.
- Impeccable service. Water was refilled regularly without us having to ask.
- We ordered the lunch table d'hôte, which is only available on weekdays.
- Complimentary bread, coleslaw, & pickles were served at the table.
- The grilled shrimp were really good, with a nice smoky flavor. The tomato salsa was surprisingly good, especially its sweetness.
- The ribeye was really good-slightly under-seasoned, but they provide steak spices on the side, which helps.
- I appreciated the extras: a choice of sauce (I chose pepper sauce), steak spice blend, & garlic confit, which allow for different flavor & texture combinations.
- They let you choose your steak knife, which is a nice touch, although the one I picked was a bit dull.
- The mille-feuille was also excellent.
- Restrooms were very clean, & I liked that they offer several amenities such as mouth rinse, Q-tips, etc.
We had a great time. The food was expertly prepared & tasty as hell! Standout was the smoked short ribs (get them with the mashed potatoes) & the spinach side. Excellent, attentive service. Highly recommended!
I had the rib eye, & it was worth every penny, absolutely delicious & cooked to perfection. The service was excellent, & while the appetizers were good, they were definitely unnecessary because the steak was enormous! Highly recommend this place.
Made reservations, waited 30 minutes to be seated, reason being there was missing plates. Then I asked for half of my steak to be wrapped up & brought home, my waiter said yes & then proceeded to throw it out & blamed it on the busboy who was actually working amazingly the whole night; it was clear that the waiter threw it out & not the busboy. The busboy I believe named'Rumen', was incredible, great service by him. I was offered a free coffee in return. $40 in the garbage & terrible service. Very disappointed with a place like Moishes; an institutional place in Montreal known for their excellent hospitality & service. To be offered a free coffee when half of my $80 ribeye was thrown out is ridiculous.
Incredible food, wonderful service across the board. We were visiting from Boston. Our waiter was wonderful, & the filet, Cesar salad & short rib were to die for, but the sommelier was the icing on the cake. He was eager to share fascinating details about our dessert wine choice they we hadn't heard before. We legit could have listened to his knowledge for hours. He's a true gem unlike any sommelier we've come across before.
Moishes definitely lives up to the hype. Went for a family dinner & we were warmly welcomed. They start you off with complimentary giant pickles, coleslaw (seriously, they should package & sell thi-it's that good), & bread. For starters, we had the Caesar salad & lobster, both excellent. The highlight was the 22oz rib steak - massive, delicious, & priced at $96. They only serve it in one size, so it's a bit pricey, but definitely a worthy treat. Bonus: even the washroom is worth checking out.
Gorgeous food, warm & attentive service, classy modern yet old school atmosphere.
We went for a double celebration. I have a leg cast & let them know in advance & they put aside my kneeler it didn't bother me or other guests.
We have been many times since they reopened. Service is always top notch. No exaggeration.
The manager keeps his watchful eye on the entire'orchestra' of staff.
The menu keeps evolving but alway high end steak restaurant. Our staples are rib steak, port house to share & braised ribs with polenta. Outstanding !
This time we also ordered an arugula salad. Delicious ! One person ordered the fully loaded minute Carlo potato, & some crispy onions. Usually we don't bother with starters or sides as the steak & rib portions are very generous.
Cocktails are top shelf.
The millefeuille is out of this world ! You have to try it even if you are sharing.
Sorry no photos of the food. We aren't really food photo people but I did take a snap of the dessert.
the Moishe's experience goes so far beyond just the food. Everything just perfect. The warm welcome, the beautiful setting, the friendly, efficent servers. Add to that the perfect...& I mean PERFECTLY grilled boneless rib eye, with the various delicious sides. Thank you Moishe's!!!!
Outstanding! We had a reservation for the bar & our server, Danny, was excellent - friendly & attentive. We started with escargot which may have been the best we've had. For dinner, we had the ribeye with creamed spinach & crispy onions - perfection. The sommelier, Rafael, recommended a Bordeaux that paired perfectly. Highly recommend!
The food was over & above. There were a couple of times my water glass was empty. We did order bubbly & wine, but still needed water. We asked another waiter for mint with the lamb chops & waited, but when asked the maitre'd he said we don't serve mint. Advising us before my friend waited to eat, would of been nice! This is the second time since they opened that we were here & definitely will be back soon. The rib steak was the best I ever had. Not to fault our own waiter, who was super friendly & attentive.
