Modavie is a timeless place that brings us back to our roots, where ladies & gents gather and eat in a lively atmosphere caused by great conversation, live music and the wooden scents of a vintage room. Born in 1997, it quickly became popular among locals & visitors, and is now considered a Montreal institution.
Treat yourself to refined French fare in an antique & dimmed corner locale spawning two floors. From the classic beef tartare, to tasty sweetbread, to the famous ratatouille, your cravings will be easily satiated.
Modavie comes across as a warm, lively French bistro in Old Montreal with inviting lighting, timeless charm and nightly live jazz. Reviewers consistently highlight friendly, attentive service and a welcoming staff that makes celebrations feel special. The menu features crowd pleasers like duck confit, rack of lamb and lamb chops, escargots, onion soup and mussels with fries, with many dishes praised for bold flavors and generous portions. The atmosphere blends old world charm with modern warmth, and the two level space with live music creates a vibrant yet conversation friendly setting. While busy nights can bring a bit of hustle and occasional slower pacing, the overall experience is described as memorable and well worth returning for.
Service was phenomenal. We made a reservation & had good seats as requested. Appetizers were good, steak could be better, & dessert was phenomenal. I don't know if it is a usual theme or because restaurant was under renovation at the time, but I found it a bit too congested & noisy. When just moving your chair a little bit or just move/stretch a little bit, you would accidentally hit someone. & the 2nd floor band stopped at 10 whereas the restaurant was open till later. Despite the shortcomings, people were very friendly & the service was great!

I had the pleasure of dining at this delightful establishment this summer. I commenced my meal with a delectable beef tartare appetizer, followed by a succulent lamb main course. The ambiance was further enhanced by the presence of a live jazz band. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking an exceptional dining experience.
Everything about this place was terrific & it was our favorite restaurant during our 4 days in Montreal. We loved it so much that we went for a lunch & a dinner. Very gluten-free / celiac friendly. Everything was perfectly cooked & delicious. We received friendly, helpful, & fun service. & the space was very nice with a great vibe. We didn't need reservations for lunch but made them for our Saturday night dinner, & were glad we did. It was also a nice bonus that they have live music most nights of the week.
Very nice & typical French place with live music. Even though we didn't book they gave us a table because they are very organised. Excellent meat & salmon & light pink wine with if we were in Provence.
One of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. Service was quick, attentive, & very friendly. Food was definitely worth the price, & was the highlight of a beautiful evening at the Old Port. The decor was wonderful & clean, & the live music was a welcome accompaniment to our meal. We ordered the escargot, rack of lamb, the sea bream (catch of the day), & the seafood linguine. From the mains to the sides, all of it went beyond our expectations. My father especially loved the lamb, it was of a quality very rarely found in restaurants, & cooked perfectly according to our specifications; the sauce was also very good, extravagant in elevating the meat & its pairings. All the seafood was also wonderfully fresh, & the quality of the pasta brought it to the next level. Will likely look to come again if we ever return to Montreal.

Good evening. My name is Olena & I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Tyler, who patiently waited for our order as my friends were looking for parking on a very busy evening. He was very pleasant to talk to & it also turned out that he was from the neighboring town from which we came. It was very nice to meet him. I would also like to pay special attention to the food, as it was simply amazing. The dishes were prepared & served very quickly, everything was tasty & satisfying. I was very pleased to get into this restaurant as a guest! I highly recommend this establishment, it is just a godsend.
Fantastic place, enjoyed every moment in there. Delicate, polite service that doesn't interrupt you when you have a full mouth of food to ask how it is (as it is in Toronto) but rather wait until we finish the meal & then ask how was the dish. Professional, superb. My wife loved the onion soup a lot, I also tried escargot & it was the best I have tried so far. The bagel with salmon is great as well - very balanced with a quality fish.

Wonderful food, service, & personal experience with George. George was knowledgeable about the wine menu when we couldn't decide what to order & he was very attentive to our table. We ordered the French onion soup, seafood linguine, & steak & fries. It hit the spot! All the food came out timely & so so delicious. Because we are visiting for the weekend we asked George about local places & he went out of his way to suggest local things to do, eat, drink. Thank you for a great dining experience & fabulous food!
Service was amazing she started us off with nice words & was attentive to our needs, & ended it off by wishing us a good night. The whole restaurant seemed to match a cozy & tight style. The live music here was very good, but a little bit too loud for tables 1-3 tables away from them. The food was also good, but did not live up to my expectations. The lamb was just your average lamb, & the bone marrow was very sour. However, the pasta was the opposite of the rest. It exceeded my expectations & was very creamy while having some flavourful ground beef!
Excellent bistro. Good jazz (but often more blues) guitarist upstairs, quiet enough for conversation. Attentive service staff. I had onion soup & mussels + frites, all of which was great. Wine selection was good, a bit more expensive than comparable places. Not an issue for us, but tables do turn - they indicated when we arrived that we only had the table for two hours.
