About

Mamie Clafoutis specializes in artisanal French baking characterized by high-quality ingredients and traditional fermentation techniques. The menu features a diverse selection of signature crusty sourdough breads alongside classic buttery viennoiseries like golden croissants and pain au chocolat. Customers encounter a display filled with fruit-topped tarts, rich eclairs, and indulgent almond financiers prepared daily on site. The establishment operates with an open-concept layout where the scent of toasted flour and caramelized sugar permeates the space. Beverages include a selection of premium loose-leaf teas and rich espresso-based drinks designed to complement the dense textures of the various pastries. This bakery maintains consistent standards across its various locations, ensuring that every batch of dough adheres to strict artisan protocols before moving into the stone ovens for precise baking.

Review Summary

Mamie Clafoutis is widely recognized for its exceptional quality of baked goods, including popular items like croissants, chocolatines, and artisanal breads, which continue to attract loyal customers. While many patrons praise the delicious food and the freshness of the products, the recent shift toward a self-service business model has elicited mixed reactions. Some visitors appreciate the convenience and efficiency of the new design, whereas others lament the loss of the warm, neighborhood atmosphere and personalized service that previously defined the experience. Despite debates regarding the implementation of automated systems and tipping expectations, the bakery remains a significant local staple where many continue to stop for high-quality pastries and a unique culinary experience.

Ça n'a plus rien d'un café.
Pas de chaises, pas de table. Pas d'ambiance.
C'est cher & de mauvais goût.

Fresh bakery with some coffee drinks. Had the pistachio croissant & chocolatine (pain au chocolat), delectable. They can toast them for you before you go. Service is great! No proper seating, just 3 stools by the window if you need to sit. Select your own baked goods & pay at the register or online (there's instructions). Drinks are dispensed in the middle island & you can select on a tablet what you want, add syrups, & pay at the register.

No cash till. Also no restroom.

At this price point, the self service concept & AI signage everywhere is revolting. Pastries & bread are good but the packaged items such as sandwiches are often 2-3 days old. Lately I feel upset every time I frequent this place...I will find a new bakery to support.

This place is gone way down the hill, unfortunately. I come every few months & buy many bags of the frozen cookies. They always had insulated bags for sale. They also would give me some ice. They now no longer provide any ice. They would not even let me purchase the ice. They do not carry insulated bags. If they have a whole room of freezer products they sell. I don't get it. Zero customer service from someone spending upwards of $100 on frozen products refused to even provide a little ice. Horrendous customer service zero accommodation. It's very sad because a lovely store with great products. It's not the staff's fault but they're just following the rules & they did help me. Keep the products refrigerated until I left, but I was really stunned at these changes.

Staff was very helpful & the pastries were delicious! It was very close to my hotel so it was great to grab something quick to take back on mornings I wanted a cheap breakfast. Cute. I do wish there was seating but I think it's not that kind of place.

I finally managed to get croissants here. Their new Nutella one & the mini chocolatines. Both of them so good!

(USED TO BE) my favourite place for french pastries in montreal! the chocolatine is my go-to, though I've had the apricot tart & the berry clafoutis before & they were delicious too. I love how friendly the staff are & I love playing their piano in the seating area on the second floor :)

Edit: SAD SAD place after the renovations. It has been turned into a soulless capitalist husk of its former self. Shame on you, founders of Mamie Clafoutis Joseph Sabatier & Nicolas Delourmel + the tech company Leav, for selling the bakery's charm & humanity in favour of profit & efficiency. You've lost a loyal customer.

Stopped by this neat place for some coffee because of a strawberries pie sign :) it turned out to be a fresh bakery with coffee, fresh pastries, pies & a few other sweet things. Great staff, very helpful & friendly. Both our cold & hot coffees were good, so we're the pastries. It's not a cafe per se, it has no proper seating, but I'd come back for the bread, it looks really good!
