I dined here on July 12, 2025 so my review is quite late. The staff may remember because when I told them the name of my reservation they made fun of me & were like'Gary's here guys, table for Garyyyyy. Gary???' I thought it was hilarious & so did my gf.
Anyways the atmosphere in the summer was amazing. Seated outside around the ferns on the back patio. My gf & I had an outstanding dining experience. Had a very nice bottle of quebecois wine. Enjoyed some corned beef croquettes, the pickle salad, some delicious zucchini, this chicken & clams dish & the steak frites. Finished off with a basque cheesecake & this really refreshing vanilla ice cream & strawberry sorbet dessert that really hit the spot on that extremely hot day. My gf was very thankful I ordered that ice cream in that moment, it came in pretty clutch.
Our server was awesome, very helpful, chill & attentive. He looked like the son of the hotel concierge in home alone 2 & I found that pretty funny. Yeah this place was amazing, we loved it.
I used to be the biggest fan of this place. My husband & I have been coming every year to celebrate our anniversary before wedding & post-wedding. We have raved about & recommended this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place. The service used to be surprisingly casual for an expensive spot & unpretentious. The food was always incredibly inventive, well portioned & well flavoured. The daily menu used to have a wide array of interesting dishes that were a healthy mix between seafood & game meat.
Now? We recently went & were just shocked. The atmosphere is so different - the decor has shifted, the patrons are mostly all English tourists, the service has become incredibly pretentious & poor: when our server realized we weren't ordering wine, we hardly saw him as he fawned over other tables. The food, while still delicious, has lost all of its nice touches - the fries that come with the steak frites used to come seasoned with tallow & Parmesan, & are now just plain, the tartare used to be accompanied by (laughably) one piece of crisped bread & now comes entirely solo. Even the bread & pickle side has been downsized & includes (quite literally) half a pickle. We were incredibly disappointed this July & will certainly not be going back. There are many other restaurants in the city at a similar price point that are doing more for your money & not making you feel like you don't belong to eat there. It's a shame as for a lot of people, expensive restaurants are for special occasions where people make a conscious decision to allocate their disposable income to celebrate something special. These are not normal evenings for normal folks. & it's reasonable to expect a certain level of service (& by that I mean not being grossly neglected by your server & watching him be omnipresent to many other tables in your sections, or at least having him come by at least once before you finish two courses). Even after emailing the restaurant, it took them several days to respond with a chat gpt response asking about the name on the reservation. They thanked us for'giving them the chance to make it right' & then never heard anything back.
I used to be the biggest fan of this place but truly, spend your money elsewhere.
Pictured: the same dish year over year (steak frites).
Liverpool House in Montreal offers a dining experience that's both refined & deeply satisfying. From the moment you step in, the service is impeccable - professional, warm, & attentive without ever being overbearing. The ambiance is distinctly adult: cozy yet upscale, perfect for an intimate dinner or a special night out with friends. There's a sense of quiet sophistication in the air, balanced with a touch of laid-back charm.
The dishes are a masterclass in culinary craftsmanship. Every plate feels thoughtfully created & executed with precision. The meats are a true highlight: juicy, tender, & cooked to perfection, whether it's a steak, fish or pork. Each bite is layered with flavor, showing a clear attention to quality & technique. Even the sides & starters are memorable - fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, & bold, satisfying combinations.
The beer selection is excellent, featuring local & craft options that pair well with the menu. But it's the wine list that truly shines: thoughtfully curated, diverse, & full of gems for both the casual drinker & seasoned connoisseur.
Liverpool House is a place where the details matter - in service, in food, & in atmosphere. A must-visit for those who appreciate elevated dining without pretension.
I'll start with the good.
The service was excellent. Our waitress was helpful & we never had to ask to fill our wine or water. The salad was really good & tasty dressing.
We made our reservation more than a month ago & got sat by the bar.
When we asked if they had something in the restaurant the guy was just rude(Bad start)
We were told the lobster pasta had 1/2 lobster & a huge bowl of pasta so we shared it.
It arrived with 3 small pieces of lobster from a very small lobster & a regular order of pasta for 1 person. Not worth $71.
I have cooked over 1000 live lobsters in my day & this was not freshly cooked lobster.
In fact it was starting to turn & I paid the price later. Either they use previously cooked lobster or already dead lobster before cooked.
There is no way to have that taste or smell from freshly cooked lobster(sorry but true).
The sauce was just ok & we were both left hungry.
Our friends ordered the fish filet special of the day that we were told could feed 1 1/2 people. I have never seen a fish arrive with nothing on the plate but sauce. $39 & nothing else but the fish on the plate. I was so embarrassed since I picked the restaurant.
We considered ordering more food but decided against it given the 2 mains that we already received.
We were very disappointed!
Dined with my husband & daughter, our waiter Elliot was pleasant & our food was good until they brought our daughters chicken - there was a thick black hair stuck to it. Obviously we sent it back but the waiter didn't even apologize he just took the plate & left & they sent a new chicken. I would've at least expected someone to come & say sorry about that but they didn't & they still charged for the chicken (it was only $15 & our bill was over $500 due to the good wine we got but there was just no effort to show any kind of gesture for what happened).
Overall - food is fine, nothing amazing, wouldn't return regardless of the hair situation.
Just to note, while waiting for our table, we asked a staff member what was the major difference between there & the sister restaurant, Joe Beef, & he basically said the quality was lower here & that in JB they use higher quality cuts of meat etc. so I guess from that statement we shouldn't have expected too much. Can definitely tell that Dave is no longer involved.
What can I say other than the fact this is my favourite restaurant & my wife & I look forward to returning here throughout the year!
From the first moment you step into the restaurant, you are greeted with warmth by the host / hostess, brought to your table & then offered a cocktail / drink to start off the night.
We love the at home, rustic vibe of the restaurant combined with the multi cultural & English & French dynamic that you get at this restaurant. The team seamless serves you in English & French & we love it as we love both languages.
The first time we went here was for my birthday & Cecile was our waitress & she surpassed our expectations. She recommended what she viewed as great'birthday dishes' & hit the mark! Her wine pairing suggestion for oysters / seafood (chenin blanc) & main course (Chianti Classico) were on point, in line with our taste & reasonably priced.
From start to finish, our experience was absolute perfection! The rest of the staff ensured we always had enough water & anything else that we needed. They also kept the tables clean & well organized throughout the night.
Last night we went back for a second time & had very good service from Sarah. She was attentive to our needs & patient when we were figuring out which wines we wanted to pair with our meal. Sarah was more reserved at first but then warmed up as the night went on.
Although she did forget us temporarily at the end of our meal when we were moved to the terrasse (after our time at the table ran out), she more than made up for it with a sincere apology & by comping us for our first glass of white & dessert.
Our meal was delicious with fresh oysters, arctic char, the foie gras breakfast sandwich (i will get this again… & again), New York strip with an incredible marinade & sauce (perfectly cooked), the lobster spaghetti (was good but not my favourite dish of the two nights), all of the desserts on the menu, delicious cocktails & wine.
Thank you to the Liverpool house team for two amazing nights. We will be back!
A special shout out to Cecile & Michael!
I think this is better than joe beef, but again I wasn't overly impressed by the food. Wine selection was great though
Incredible food at reasonable prices. Excellent wine & the service we got was very very good. Exceptional
A cozy restaurant with great food & wine. The server went above & beyond which elevated the experience.
Exceptional... I just feel like my opinion doesn't matter because it has all been said before. Our server Mark (augmented by others as available or necessary) was just excellent & seemed to understand us very well. We are not into fussing over wines, but wanted something that balanced the meal we were having, without ordering numerous bottles or glasses. He got it & made a great suggestion at the lesser end of the wine list ($79) - but it really did capture the palate very well. We ordered a selection of 6 Shrimp, 3 Oysters, & 3 portions of Scallops + Beef tartare for three of us to share as Appetizers. Then one Spaghetti Lobster, one Pork Chop, & on Arctic Char - two desserts, coffee, wine, & an aperitif. The service was outstanding the food was exceptional, the atmosphere is perfect (upscale casual - attentive but not hovering).
Went as a group of 8, had the set meal. We were well welcomed & the dishes portion are just perfect! Steak, beef tartare were delightful, pairing with red wine. They have an extensive selection of wine.
Simply the best oysters in Montréal. Start there & also let your servers guide you through wine pairings with your next courses. The wine menu is extensive & they can find something by the glass that will be wonderful with each dish even when no one can agree on what next to eat. The service will work at your pace & you'll neither wait too long nor be rushed through your meal. You can never go wrong at Liverpool House.
This place & Joe Beef were recommended to us. We visited in summer 2024. Here are reviews in important areas of our dining experience. SERVICE We were early & requested a change to sit at the table rather than the bar. The request was accommodated with kindness, albeit a wait but communication brief & positive. Table service, fun, casual, professional with positive energy. FOOD We had oysters & special of the day scallops. Spaghetti lobster (the best!) & fish. Wine list by glass is good. dessert was good but not wow. AMBIENCE Lighting indoor seating is low. Music playlist is fun, modern & good choice. Service by the bar & staff were all jolly & positive hence it radiates good vibes.
I've had some amazing meals in my time & Liverpool house has delivered some of those amazing meals, the other night was no different. Highly recommended, from the service, food & ambiance, you can't get much better. We sat at the bar in front of 2 very friend friendly Chef's preparing desserts & salads, great lads with fun vibes. When the food started, our waitress (Cici sp?) was on high alert with knowing that she had a fun table ahead of her. She was attentive, highly educated in her food & wines as well as fun to interact with (thank you). From start to finish we were impressed. Thank you Liverpool House for such an incredible experience.
Our group of 12 got seated in the comfortable outside garden & we're well served a family style pre fixe. It was a long service with wine plentiful. The seafood & steak were stars along with the service.
We just had the best time. The food was delicious, the wine was delicious & the service was perfection. We ahead the wine pairing out on the stunning terrace.
When Rustom heard that Obama & Trudeau ate here he couldn't help himself - he had to recreate the summit with his best Canadian friends. The wine selection is extensive & the oysters fresh. Definitely worth stopping in for a glass.
My son took me there for dinner on the Sat night before Mother's Day. We were seated at the bar which was fine but our waiter Michael was absolutely inattentive, rushed & never checked on us. He took forever to take our cocktail orders & dinner menu & we had to wait to find him to order wine as he had also taken our wine glasses away. To top of the extremely poor service he started pouring the wrong wine in my glass & I stopped him . Instead of changing the glass he just poured the right wine in the same glass mixing the wines then took off before I could say anything! He was no where to be seen to take our dessert order so we asked the friendly female server nearby & she brought us dessert menus & our dessert with Michael still no where to be seen &/or chatting up other customers he knew well & completely ignoring us. This was very disappointing for my son as he had wanted me to have the same experience he had as he had the montb before when. Be took his fiance there the night he got engaged getting engaged. The food was very good but a steep bill for such sub par /apathetic service with a waiter who showed absolutely no interest in giving us a good experience. He didn't even give us the bare minimum. Brutal for a restaurant of this quality.
I recently visited Liverpool House in Montreal & had a fantastic experience! The ambiance was charming, & the service was top-notch. Although parking was limited on the street, it was well worth it for the delicious food & excellent wine selection. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in the city!
Great seasonal menu, cozy atmosphere & delicious food. Very welcoming staff, & the wait time is very reasonable. The selection of wines are great for larger groups of friends, & for dates. Definitely recommend the seasonal seafood dishes & of course, the meat dishes. Will definitely return for a special occasion, or pay a visit to its sister restaurant, Joe Beef.
