A wonderful meal.
10/10.
No notes.
From beginning to end, this was a great evening. A friend wanted a way to treat ourselves on this trip, & this is exactly what we got. We felt spoiled throughout the entire dinner: never rushed, but always cared for.
Cocktails, smart. Wine recommendations en point. Food phenomenal. It was indeed a lovely treat.
Reservation recommended.
Before trying a new restaurant, we now have the tendency to read reviews, check how it's rated & analyze the menu, pricing included.
Anniversaries are special occasions where we splurge & eat in restaurants that are supposed to be an experience. That experience starts when you are greeted at the front door.
We had a 7pm reservation. The place was packed with only a few tables empty. We were promptly seated & one of two servers approached us asking if we wanted flat or bubbly water. Then, we checked over the menu again & saw that there were items seen on the internet that they no longer had available. It happens, especially when looking at pictures.
So, after a quick'specials' run through, we ordered.
Starting with, a Steak tartare & an order of their version of the Spanish Croquetas. The a large appetizer portion of the steak tartare was served with bite size pieces of lettuce & was absolutely delicious. The croquetas, 3 small balls, were topped with mustard & 1/2 a small gerkin. They were not like in Spain but they were very good.
Because the restaurant was very busy, the kitchen was overwhelmed & our dinner was delayed. We didn't mind. More time to drink our bottle of Elodie Jaume Côte de Rhone wine. Highly recommend you have it.
When dinner came, I had the Hanger Steak & Fries & my husband had the Pork Chop.
Loaded with fresh cut salted fries, a small wedge of Boston lettuce & dressing, a serving of mayo for the fries & the sliced steak. The steak was a bit over done & chewy, but tasty because of the pepper corn sauce.
My husband's chop, according to him, was also a bit overdone, but the topping, späetzle, a combo of mushrooms, tomatoes, pasta & spices was delicious.
The potions sizes are really good. I was so full, I didn't even have room for dessert.
Will we go back? Probably not.
Why you ask? For the cost & quality of our dinner experience, it was rather pricey.

Had an amazing evening at Liverpool last night!
Food, service, & atmosphere were fantastic. From the oysters, prawns, clams as an appy. Shared the Burrata salad, & hanger steak for dinner . Hands down a great restaurant with great quality food.
We had a reso at Joe Beef but realized our location was closer to Liverpool. While many comments state that Joe Beef maybe a tourist type of place, which I can't comment on as we did not visit. Liverpool was not & highly recommended.
Our first few nights in Montreal we spent in Old Montreal, while great, Liverpool is by far a better restaurant then the ones we visited there.
Food, ambiance, & service was a 10/10!
You must try the lobster pasta & the steak frites. Elliot out server was extremely nice, always checking to see if we liked our food & drinks, & making sure we always had water. I'd come back for the oysters & to try the other cocktails. Highly recommend !
Probably the best restaurant I've ever had the pleasure of dining at. From the moment you step through the door, they treat you like a long-lost friend, & the food matches that standard. I never thought I could be blown away by a salad, but today I was.
Thank you so much for everything you do. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. It's also great for solo dining, the bar seating area is fantastic, & you can watch the garde manger at work
having always eaten at joe beef, decided to give the sister restaurant a try. unfortunately, it will always be in its shadow.
service was subpar to say the least. took us an insane time to get the servers attention (15min). got ignored bluntly by the other waitstaff. we didt even know who our server was. when he finally came, he was distracted (eyes were ahead on another table) & he almost walked off halfway through. what a start.
appetizers were mid. foie gras dish was too creamy. lobster pasta was tasteless (nothing in comparison to the one i had a joe beef). it felt like i was having pasta coated in lobster flavored water. lobster was fresh though so that i have to give.
also ordered the arctic char & steak frites. fries were soggy, the only saving grace was the lettuce because that was the only thing that tasted like what it was meant to taste it.
do not recommend unless you like being cooped up in a loud, crowded, dark restaurant. also if you like being ignored, then this place is for you. if not, joe beef is right next door & for the same price point. you deserve better.
Now this is what I'm talking about - impeccable service, incredibly good tasting food, & worth every penny. The lobster spaghetti tasted like the literal ocean & it made you want to keep digging in. The fish was mastefully cooked. Beef tartare was fantastic. Highly highly recommend going here for a fancy dinne
