The service was fit for royalty. The lobster spaghetti delicious. The hanger steak a bit stringy. The Basque pumpkin cheese cake divine. Always the service deserves six stars. After a while it got crowded & very loud. Glad we came early for a great experience. Thanks to Louise & Taylor as well as others.
I dined here on July 12, 2025 so my review is quite late. The staff may remember because when I told them the name of my reservation they made fun of me & were like'Gary's here guys, table for Garyyyyy. Gary???' I thought it was hilarious & so did my gf.
Anyways the atmosphere in the summer was amazing. Seated outside around the ferns on the back patio. My gf & I had an outstanding dining experience. Had a very nice bottle of quebecois wine. Enjoyed some corned beef croquettes, the pickle salad, some delicious zucchini, this chicken & clams dish & the steak frites. Finished off with a basque cheesecake & this really refreshing vanilla ice cream & strawberry sorbet dessert that really hit the spot on that extremely hot day. My gf was very thankful I ordered that ice cream in that moment, it came in pretty clutch.
Our server was awesome, very helpful, chill & attentive. He looked like the son of the hotel concierge in home alone 2 & I found that pretty funny. Yeah this place was amazing, we loved it.
Jonathan,
Delicious that I ate all the food without taking photos! Hands down amazing beef tartare. I got the steak frites, couldn't go wrong with a classic.
I didn't think we wanted dessert but their pumpkin spice cheese cake was heavenly!!
Had a wonderful time here last weekend with my boyfriend. We are lucky enough to get a reservation same day. We called ahead to ask about parking & the lady on the phone was super helpful & told us that there is some free spots in the area as well as paid street parking directly in front of the restaurant. We ended up going with the paid spots because they were just easier & it was raining & paid $4.57CA for two hours (for tourists like us: Mobicité app is what they use in Montreal). The food was excellent & the staff were all so kind & personable. Jeremy who took our order was so sweet & provided excellent recommendations for food & drinks which we both ended up loving. The lamb pot pie is to die for & the steak was incredibly moist & tender. Phil checked in on us throughout the meal & made sure we had everything we needed & took our order for more appetizers when we decided on getting more after getting the beef tartare (which was incredible). William also checked in on our table throughout the night - he was hilarious & gave us some great recommendations for places to go in Montreal. The food as mentioned was all incredible as were the drinks, but the staff was really the cherry on top. Would highly recommend coming here for a great evening.
We had a very disappointing dinner at Liverpool House. The previous evening we had gone to Joe Beef, Liverpool's sister restaurant, & had a wonderful dinner with great service. So we were shocked to experience such atrocious service at Liverpool House. The night started out with cold steak. We politely returned our steak & asked it be brought back warmer. We then had to ask for the bread we ordered 3 times before we actually received it. When our steak came back, it was with the wrong jus/sauce, & considerably smaller than the first order of steak we received. There were also long gaps when no one came to check on us & there was a huge gap between when we finished our entrees & we were offered dessert. When we finally gave up on ordering dessert & just wanted to pay & leave, that also took a long time. My husband finally just went up to pay.
I am somewhat at a loss to explain why the night before had great, seamless service, where the staff worked as a team on tables, & this place's service was so disjointed & subpar. There were a lot of staff working but many of them were limited in their tasks to setting or clearing tables, bringing food & filling glasses but not taking orders or addressing concerns. When you would flag one of them down, they'd say I will get your server who was inevitably tied up with multiple tables.
We don't drink & I wonder if in a place like this that can work against you. Our waiter was the server & sommelier to his other tables & spent loads of time at his other tables compared to ours. We didn't mind he didn't chat us up but we were completely neglected & when they got something wrong, instead of trying to be more attentive to us, they essentially gave up on us. We are very polite & not difficult at all so we are very confused as to what happened.
While the food was good (though not as good as Joe Beef), the service ruined the entire experience. Save yourself some time & book Joe Beef if you want to visit this ownership group; otherwise don't bother with this place. It very much felt like the overflow restaurant for people who can't get into Joe Beef, with similar but not as good food, & materially worse service.
The food were really good. I really appreciate the beef tartare. The fish wasn't what I was expecting, but the service were impeccable. They offer me free dessert, & they were really nice about it. Definitely will come back to try the steak next time!
First time at this restaurant thanks to a gift, & wow, we were really impressed! Pretty sure our server was Sarah & she knew the menu inside out & gave us great recommendations. We had the steak & fries & the schnitzel, both were super tasty. The vibe was really warm & cozy, not too noisy either. We thought about dessert but were way too full. Great experience overall, thanks so much!
Le tartare de boeuf, le steak & le poulet & palourdes étaient très bons. On était déçu de l'épaule d'agneau qui allait être notre plat de wow factor - manque d'épices.
Steak frites too salty. Service & atmosphere excellent, but too pricey to justify mediocre food.
I used to be the biggest fan of this place. My husband & I have been coming every year to celebrate our anniversary before wedding & post-wedding. We have raved about & recommended this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place. The service used to be surprisingly casual for an expensive spot & unpretentious. The food was always incredibly inventive, well portioned & well flavoured. The daily menu used to have a wide array of interesting dishes that were a healthy mix between seafood & game meat.
Now? We recently went & were just shocked. The atmosphere is so different - the decor has shifted, the patrons are mostly all English tourists, the service has become incredibly pretentious & poor: when our server realized we weren't ordering wine, we hardly saw him as he fawned over other tables. The food, while still delicious, has lost all of its nice touches - the fries that come with the steak frites used to come seasoned with tallow & Parmesan, & are now just plain, the tartare used to be accompanied by (laughably) one piece of crisped bread & now comes entirely solo. Even the bread & pickle side has been downsized & includes (quite literally) half a pickle. We were incredibly disappointed this July & will certainly not be going back. There are many other restaurants in the city at a similar price point that are doing more for your money & not making you feel like you don't belong to eat there. It's a shame as for a lot of people, expensive restaurants are for special occasions where people make a conscious decision to allocate their disposable income to celebrate something special. These are not normal evenings for normal folks. & it's reasonable to expect a certain level of service (& by that I mean not being grossly neglected by your server & watching him be omnipresent to many other tables in your sections, or at least having him come by at least once before you finish two courses). Even after emailing the restaurant, it took them several days to respond with a chat gpt response asking about the name on the reservation. They thanked us for'giving them the chance to make it right' & then never heard anything back.
I used to be the biggest fan of this place but truly, spend your money elsewhere.
Pictured: the same dish year over year (steak frites).
Best restaurant in Montreal hands down. If it's your first time, try the steak & fries as well as the lobster spaghetti. Oysters are fresh & huge + you get to be served by the best CECILE!!! Thank you for your amazing service!!! 🫶🏽
Liverpool House in Montreal offers a dining experience that's both refined & deeply satisfying. From the moment you step in, the service is impeccable - professional, warm, & attentive without ever being overbearing. The ambiance is distinctly adult: cozy yet upscale, perfect for an intimate dinner or a special night out with friends. There's a sense of quiet sophistication in the air, balanced with a touch of laid-back charm.
The dishes are a masterclass in culinary craftsmanship. Every plate feels thoughtfully created & executed with precision. The meats are a true highlight: juicy, tender, & cooked to perfection, whether it's a steak, fish or pork. Each bite is layered with flavor, showing a clear attention to quality & technique. Even the sides & starters are memorable - fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, & bold, satisfying combinations.
The beer selection is excellent, featuring local & craft options that pair well with the menu. But it's the wine list that truly shines: thoughtfully curated, diverse, & full of gems for both the casual drinker & seasoned connoisseur.
Liverpool House is a place where the details matter - in service, in food, & in atmosphere. A must-visit for those who appreciate elevated dining without pretension.
One of my favorite restaurants in Montreal. Service & atmosphere is great. Whether you choose seafood or steak you're not going to be disappointed.
Service was great, but the food was mediocre at best. Oysters & dessert were 5/5 but the steak, lobster spaghetti, & steak tartare were not good.
I fell in love at Liverpool House …. With Ceecee & Camille & definitely the steak tartare.
Could use some more lights. I have mixed feelings on the food. Bon service!
Points forts (+)
Spaghetti homard
Poisson du jour
Trempette crabe
Huîtres
Gâteau à l'orange
Points faibles (-)
The Steak Frites 🔥 the fries were mind blowing. I'd go back again & again just for that dish.
We sat at the bar & it was excellent. We had the steak frites & it was so good! The chocolate cake & the orange cake are also excellent. Our waiter for amazing, thank you! We didn't catch his name, sorry. 100% recommend! I'm not a huge seafood fan so we enjoyed the steaks.
