Liverpool House is also where Justin Trudeau once took Barrack Obama for dinner once. Joe Beef was filled up a few weeks in advance but I was able to snag a reservation for one at the bar on a Thursday evening at Liverpool House. & I figured, if it's good enough for Obama it should be OK for me. They have an often-changing menu that varies with the seasons, as well as some regular specialities. They are known for the lobster spaghetti so I had my mind on that going in, but seeing the market price on this day I decided it was just too rich for my blood. I considered the Pork Belly Normandy briefly but, in the end., went with the French bistro classic of steak frites, medium-rare. As an aside, I have decided to try to switch my steak preference from medium to medium-rare, & this as the first time actioning this. While waiting for my dinner I accepted a recommendation for a nice glass of red, made small talk with my neighbor who seemed to work in the restaurant industry & know the staff here, & politely declined the offer to do a shot with them. My neighbour lamented the chef refused to make him a ham & cheese sandwich; I suggested he order it as a Croque Monsieur instead & he thought this may work. I'll handle the sides first. The veg was a wedge of lettuce dressed with a light vinaigrette. The dressing was good but, while it's popular in fancy restaurants, I find this a lazy way to make a salad. I'm not a big fry guy. These had some crisp & were well-salted, & with the mayo I enjoyed them. The steak was served sliced & in a sauce, & was cooked as ordered. It was flavourful & tasty & I savoured every bite. The simple things done well are enjoyable indeed. I'll try to be back my next time in Montreal for sure. A good meal to start my culinary long weekend.
Food: Lobster spaghetti: Sauce is pretty good. However lobster tail have the texture of Rubber & claw is undercooked. Steak frites: salty, not much flavor otherwise Service: the guy is good, however this place is under stuff & i was going to tell him about the lobster issue but I guess he don't have time to come around. Also they charge tip on top of tax which I find crazy... Atmosphere: noisy- can't hear anything basically. Cramp in small spaces & trying not to knock over plates. Overall it would be okay for a 50 dollar restaurant but at this price point not worth it I would say
Was afraid this wouldn’t live up to the hype but we were blown away! We sat at the back bar & enjoyed oysters, the rolls, a few vegetable dishes & steak frites. The wine was great & each dish was spot on, plus just a fun vibe!
What a spectacular experience! Service has been A+, the waitress took super good care of us. We had the steak & fish of the day, it was very delicious. Highly recommended.
Liverpool House, located on Notre Dame St in Griffontown, is one of the better known eating establishments in Montreal, being part of the Joe Beef group. The restaurant is deceivingly large, entering into a large bar & kitchen area, then passing into, antoher room, then onto two large back patios & a third interior room. The back patios are wonderful to enjoy the warm summer months, surrounded by an array of flora & fauna; while the interior is much darker & dimmer...so both tastes are covered.
The menu is tight with an emphasis on meats (chicken, duck, beef, etc..) & some fish dishes. Four our meal we ordered the Parker House Rolls (very good...but a bit on the salty side), Steak Frites (very good), Lamb Shoulder (a huge dish & excellent, including the bone marrow...perfectly done), Chicken Bercy (also very good), Pork Belly (good), & the Market Vegetables (also very good...mostly carrots). For dessert we shared the multi-layer Marjolaine cake slice (also good).
Service was very friendly & informative although I did find it a bit tempered...however our section was full & there was a lot going on. Overall a very good food experience. Enjoy!
