Enjoyed a great dining experience at Kyo. Really happy with our choice to come here & try a variety of dishes & drinks. Every bite was excellent, great quality beef & the fish/sashimi were the star of the night. Worth the price for our special occasion.

A great restaurant with some fantastic dishes & beers! Ed, Jacob, & Jesse all served us throughout the night & they were fantastic to speak to as they provided great recommendations for drink & food, along with great conversation.
The beers being opened tableside & poured was a level of service I haven't experienced in quite some time from a restaurant. It was greatly appreciated. Being a vegetarian, Jacob recommended the Yami Yami roll that was one of the best sushi dishes I have ever had, hands down. The spicy edamame, miso soup, & vegetarian dumplings were all amazing choices as well. They weren't overfilling or overpowering in quantity & seasoning, respectively.
The Hitachino beers were all so good & a great way to compliment the dishes if you enjoy beer with distinct flavor profiles. Normally, I'm only used to Sapporo as my home province has very little offering in the way of Japanese beer. The Hito White, Lager, Damidami, & Red Rice were all so unique but complimentary to the food. The taste was quite noticeable but subtle at the same time; each one was in its own way fantastic. I cannot emphasize enough how well they paired with the food that was served. I truly respect a restaurant that can elevate the experience by pairing drinks so effectively with the food.
The entire restaurant is beautifully laid out. It felt like the prohibition met rustic-modern, & had a baby. It really provided a wonderful atmosphere to spend the evening so close to attractions like the Notre Dame Cathedral & La Grande Roue!
Nice experience at Kyo. Had dinner & tried a few different dishes. Sashimi was fresh, the rolls were creative. Agedashi tofu was a little too oily but still good. Our waiter was nice & professional.
I love dining out in Montreal. I think it's my favourite Canadian city for its dining scene. I can see why this place is so popular: really amazing location in a vibrant area, cool atmosphere, very personable & professional staff, always poppin with people. It is the cool place to be.
It has lots of great Japanese dishes. The noodle dishes were great, the wagyu beef dumplings were some of the best dumplings I've ever had. The desserts were outstanding.
But honestly I've tried a lot of sushi all over North America & the sushi here is very average. It was by no means the highlight of the meal.
But nonetheless, we enjoyed our evening & meal very much.
Note: I dined here July 11, 2025. This is a late review.
Yakiudon was soaked in sauce & way too salty. Chief choice sushi was just bunch of Japanese American fusion rolls. Grilled pork belly is more like extra salty Chinese hong shao rou. Oyster tastes nothing but fishy.
Karaage was on point though. Not the best I've had but was cooked the way it should be.
Not much food option for kids as most dishes are spicy.
Overall we had a nice evening at Kyo Bar. However, the place is very popular & was very crowded with many people waiting in the entrance area (thankfully we were not seated there). Also the service was doing its best but everything was quite slow or rather untimed. My main dish arrived way before my boyfriends & then the bottle of wine we had ordered arrived as very last (when I had already nearly finished my main). Food was good & tasty but menu describing the dishes was at times a bit misleading.

We returned to Kyo Bar Japonais for the first time since before the pandemic, & it reminded us why this spot is one of our favourites in Montreal. The atmosphere is lively & stylish, with a cool vibe that fits perfectly in the heart of Old Montreal.
We tried several dishes, & everything was excellent - but the grilled shiitake & pork belly were absolute standouts, packed with flavour & perfectly prepared. Service was friendly & attentive without being overbearing, which added to the overall great experience.
Kyo is exactly the kind of restaurant that makes Montreal dining so special. Delicious food, warm service, & a fantastic location. We'll definitely be back again soon!
First, I have to say the food & drinks are awesome! 🍣 The cocktails were great, & the dishes were so good. No complaints there at all.
?But, I ran into a few things that were just strange. For one, they have a weird menu rule: if you miss lunch, they only have a small menu with almost nothing to choose from. It seems like a bad idea for a popular spot, & I think that's why it was so empty when we got there.
?Unfortunately, our waiter seemed really distracted. He brought our drinks without straws & forgot to bring them when we asked. Later, he also forgot to bring us chopsticks & napkins for our main meal. We had to ask another waitress, & she was so nice & brought everything in just seconds-she was a real lifesaver! Our dumplings also took over 40 minutes to arrive, so it felt like our waiter just forgot to place the order. 😩
?The place itself is very clean, & all the staff looks neat. But honestly, the bad service really hurts the experience from the great food. I hope it was just a bad day for them.
Had lunch at Kyo Bar Japonais with a colleague - food was fresh & tasty. Two of the dishes were great, one was a bit bland, but overall nothing to complain about. Sitting outside in the sun definitely added bonus points - felt like a little nice outing from the office.
Service was quick, but not exactly warm. Our waiter seemed like a nice guy, but he talked fast. I asked what he recommends, & he just threw out two items super quickly with zero explanation - like, blink & you miss it. Felt more like a drive-by suggestion than actual guidance.
Still, the vibe was good, the food mostly delivered, & the outdoor seating is the real star. Just maybe check the menu ahead of time…'cause you're not getting much help once you're there.
Everything was impeccable-from the attentive service to the beautifully presented dishes. The food was absolutely delicious, with the makis & mochis standing out as the best I've ever tasted. 🤌
Went for an anniversary dinner while visiting montreal & the food was phenomenal! We got three dishes & loved all of them, especially the pork belly & katsu curry. The matcha sphere dessert was our favorite, so much so we went again a couple days later. They also gave us the yuzu doughnuts to celebrate which was very kind & while it wasn't something we were considering to order it was super tasty!
Excellent quality food. Definitely on the higher side of the price range, but worth it. We indulged in warm dishes, sushi, cocktails, sake & tea. All of which very very good.

I had the pleasure of dining at Kyo Bar Japonais last night, & I must say, it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the warm & inviting atmosphere set the tone for a fantastic evening. The decor was sleek & modern, with a beautiful bar area where we enjoyed watching the skilled chefs prepare our meals. The service was top-notch, with friendly & attentive staff who were happy to answer all our questions about the menu & make recommendations. & speaking of the menu, the selection of sushi & Japanese dishes was impressive, with something for every taste & preference. What really impressed us, however, was the quality & presentation of the dishes. Each plate was carefully crafted to be both visually appealing & delicious, with garnishes & sauces added with flair. It's clear that the chefs at Kyo Bar Japonais are passionate about their craft & take pride in every dish that leaves the kitchen. Overall, I would highly recommend Kyo Bar Japonais to anyone looking for an exceptional sushi experience. The combination of great food, excellent service, & stylish atmosphere makes it a must-visit destination for foodies & sushi lovers alike. We can't wait to come back & try more of the menu! *Recommended for:* Sushi lovers, foodies, special occasions, date nights
Dined alone on Christmas Eve & tried the $95 Christmas menu. While I was expecting traditional Japanese cuisine, the dishes turned out to be a delightful fusion of Japanese & French styles. Surprisingly, the flavors were excellent-refreshing & well-balanced. Since I had to drive, I didn't order any alcohol. The service was attentive, & I thoroughly enjoyed the cozy & inviting atmosphere.
We went for the Christmas menu. It was $95 for 6 courses: the best I've had as far as holiday menus go. The food was overall pretty good - the oyster, sashimi, maki, & sirloin were mouthwatering, but the sides of the main dishes (4th & 5th) were too heavy yet took up half the plate. The server took the time to explain each dish. The portions were so generous that I couldn't even finish the last 2 courses! Service was very friendly. They ensured we were having a good time without being overbearing. We will be back to try the regular menu for sure.
Had the most delicious meal at Kyo last night. Elizabeth was so wonderful, answering all of our questions with ease. The restaurant was super busy but we could still hold a conversation which is super nice. Can't wait to go again & try more dishes!
