Food was amazing, the duck & the fries are top notch. It was very busy for 6pm on a Wednesday night & sat at the bar which was full & a but tight. The servers were very attentive & were always there if you needed anything. The couple next to me ordered the halibut & it looked really good, will definitely try it next time.
Update
Went back a second time & tried the scallops, beef tartare, arctic char & duck (peppercorn sause this time). The scallops were really fresh & had a really clean taste. The beef tartare had lots of flavour but the arctic char was the stand out dish. It was amazing! Highly recommend it
I was really looking forward to this one but was a disappointment.
Spent over 500$ for me & my wife but what a let down. We shared the rib plate & asked for medium but came in rare. We returned the plate , only to come back 5 minutes later still very rare. At this point we ate a bit of it & left. The piece of meat was drenched with two different sauces which completely altered the taste of the meat. Thanks for ruining our 10 year wedding anniversary .
Have to try apparently! Joe Rogan just shouted you guys out as one of the his favourite restaurants in the world! Coming next week
We were really excited to try Joe Beef & made our reservation a month in advance, so our expectations were high.
Unfortunately, the experience fell short. We were seated at an extremely small, crowded table where we had to physically move the table just to go between the tables to get to the seat. It made the entire meal feel uncomfortable from the start. On top of that it was so loud, we could hardly hear each other or the server.
What stood out most was the service dynamic around us. The tables on either side appeared to be regulars or known to staff, & the difference in treatment was very noticeable. Staff were highly attentive & social with those tables, even sharing drinks with them & bringing them special dishes, while we felt largely overlooked. It created an awkward atmosphere where we felt like second-class guests.
The hostess repeatedly bumped into my husband while engaging with the neighboring table, enthusiastically describing special dishes she planned to bring them, which added to the feeling that attention was being directed elsewhere.
As for the food, it didn't live up to the hype. The server strongly pushed starters, & while the drinks were good, the overall meal was underwhelming. Dessert was just okay.
By the end of the evening, we were ready to leave. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, not worth it, & we won't be returning.
Birthday dinner that had some notable issues. Nearly 45 minutes between courses killed the momentum, & the mains didn't quite deliver on flavor despite looking the part. The veal was very salty, had to use a side of butter pasta to cut it. When we flagged that things were just'ok' to our waiter, he moved on without any follow-up, which was disappointing.
Not a write-off…you can see the effort…but this visit didn't live up to what French cuisine should offer. Willing to try again & hope it was just an off night.
One of the best. Love this place. Highly recommend the french onion soup while listening to JRE
Very welcoming staff. Excellent service throughout. Oysters, foie gras terrine, filet & lobster spaghetti were exceptional.
Decadent, delicious, & fun. You'll leave very full & with a big smile on your face.
Is Joe Beef now just a tourist trap? Is the restaurant'past its prime'. Honestly I do not care.
Joe Beef isn't just a dining experience, it's an exercise exploring the joy of decadence. The restaurant poses a simple existential question: If you're going to do something, why not do it with exuberance & maximalism? Worry about consequences later.
It's decadent, insane & unforgettable. A special meal at an institution of excess.
Highlights were: the foie gras terrine, the lamb to share, & the seafood platter.
One the best restaurant experience of my life, everything was perfect. Joe beef is a must! The oysters were excellent & the scallop was delicious. The lobster pasta was amazing & the sauce was perfect like a rich bisque sauce very creamy. Cod cheeks were also great & very flavourful. The dessert was an incredible end to the meal the Marjolaine was outstanding & the pistachio eclair was one the best desserts I have ever had if you love pistachio it's gonna blow your mind. Our waiter was very nice, very professional & knowledgeable. The restaurant is very homely & warm, beautiful decor very kitsch. I would recommend Joe beef to anyone who wants to experience dining at its finest & also they have amazing seafood options, don't let the name fool you
Shrimp cocktail gave me a surprise, oysters are great, lobster spaghetti smells good & tastes amazing.
Very cute dimly lit restaurant with a homey feel. Delicious food, very friendly & informative staff. Quite pricy, though worth it for a special occasion!
Impeccable. Delicious. An incredible meal, start to finish. A restaurant created & staffed by people who care deeply about food & hospitality.
Good for what it was for sure. We went for my birthday, & everything was really nice. Nothing bad to say honestly just if I'm buying honest, for the cost I wasn't wooooowwwwwed but still yummy for sure & worth trying for yourselves
The Legendary Joe Beef. We had the Foie Gras double down, the rabbit, & the veal. This is basically the Rolls Royce of restaurants, you are paying for the name. Food was unlike anything I've ever had & was extremely flavourful, but Canadian shrinkflation means you pay a lot for a little, so I left hungry. Great experience though between the ambience & the staff, it was unforgettable.
This was our first time in Montréal & we had a fabulous time. This was the best meal of our trip by far & probably one of if not the best meal we have ever had. The food was incredible, the côte de boeuf was to die for & our waiter was so kind & has the best wine pairing suggestions. The atmosphere was so lovely & we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Thank you Joe beef! We will definitely be going back.
Excellent food, my mom is a picky eater but surprisingly she loved everything we ate! Service was friendly & nice ! I wrote a note that it my mom's birthday but no bday plating or no bday comp.. tartare boeuf was so good, spicy clams was pretty okay, lobster spaghetti was good it reminds me of a lobster bisque, magret canard was excellent! The desserts was delicious marjolaine wasnt sweet at all ! Chesnut ice cream was delicious but towards the end it was very sweet after more bites
First off, Leo & Alex were great. They gave excellent service. But for a bill of almost $400 I expected a lot more. We ordered the croquettes (croquettes filled with smoked meat & cheese) which were good. The main was the Cote de Boeuf to share. We were told it was 30oz. Yeah sure, maybe 30oz before cooking & including the bones & all the fat. It was not satisfying for two people AT ALL. & while it was good, it definitely was not WOW for the price point. I've had better for a fraction of the price. & the fries... Don't get me started. They have the audacity to call them'Good fries' on the menu & they didn't even taste hand cut that day. Tasted like cooked from frozen & very underwhelming. & I am a French fry fiend.
Overall this place is overhyped & the value just isn't there. I chose this place because I heard the chef at Joe Beef worked under Martin Picard the chef from Au Pied de Cochon where we had eaten the week before (the sugar Shack one, & it was absolutely phenomenal!!!!) But Joe Beef was a complete let down & I DO NOT recommend. Regular food cos playing as high end.
From the drink options to the food everything was fantastic! All the dishes were complex & the contrast between the casual atmosphere & fine dining dishes made it an amazing meal.
.
Although their menu changes quite often, if you have the chance, the suckling pig was some of the best food I've ever eaten, & the homemade ham was absolutely worth ordering
