A great night all around at Joe Beef! Our server, Maeve, was insanely busy but kept everything moving, everyone looked after & had time to explain dishes & make great suggestions. Four of us shared several appetizers, 2 mains & 2 desserts & it was perfect. Escargot & raw tuna - perfection!

Me & my partner had an exceptional meal here last night.
Matthis (I think that's how it's spelt) & his colleague (we embarrassingly forgot to ask her name) gave us exceptional service on the bar where we were sat.

It's our first time in montreal & both our servers gave us a great bunch of recommendations of places to try & kept us talking & etertained all throughout the meal.

We had 3 different types oysters & scallops to start which were great, our server paired these with a very nice glass of white wine.

For the mains we had the cote de boeuf to share which came with Peppercorn sauce, fries, a side salad & freshly grated Horseradish. The steak was stunning & cooked perfectly medium rare.
We had a bottle of cotes du rhone with our steak which we adored.

Thanks for an amazing time, it was really made special for us by our servers & an experience we won't forget anytime soon x

This was my second visit to Joe Beef, & I really wanted to love it as much as I did the first time.
I first visited about 2.5 years ago as a walk-in, sat at the bar, & left with such a great memory of the food. This time, we were visiting Montreal from Toronto for my boyfriend's 40th birthday. I had tried for weeks to get a reservation but eventually gave up - until our original birthday dinner was unexpectedly cancelled that day &, almost by luck, a table at Joe Beef opened up. It felt meant to be.

The restaurant was still completely packed when we arrived after 9:30, with the same lively, unpretentious atmosphere I remembered. Our server was knowledgeable & lovely, & the Foie Gras Double Down was incredible - easily the most memorable dish of the night.

Unfortunately, the rest of the evening felt a little uneven. Our hot foie gras arrived when we had barely started our seafood platter, which made us feel rushed at an already very small table. Then the $89 lobster spaghetti arrived with the pasta badly broken. Our server graciously replaced it right away & made sure the second one was okay, which we genuinely appreciated.

We ended the night by ordering a cake for the birthday, only to receive a different dessert by mistake. It was actually delicious, & none of these things individually would have bothered me much. But when several little things happen during one special dinner, they start to change how the evening feels.

Our bill came to around $400 for two with a bottle of wine & tip. I don't mind spending that for a memorable meal - especially for a milestone birthday - but this time I left wishing the experience had felt as special as the occasion.

I still have fond memories of my first visit, & that Foie Gras Double Down alone reminded me why Joe Beef has such a following. I just wish our second visit had come together a little better.

Easily the best meal we had in Montreal.

Cocktails were good but suggest wine.

Started with oyster & tuna pepper soyce

Then we had the heirloom tomatoes & sweet bread

Followed by an unreal cornmeal pancake with pork belly

Finished with lobster spaghetti that was to die for.
