The sea bass (Bar à la grenobloise) was so unbelievably good that it instantly went into my top three dishes of all time. It was incredibly bright, perfectly cooked, & packed with flavor, complete with crisp croutons & lemon zest that brought everything together.
I also tried the fresh scallops (Pétoncles frais with chorizo), which were equally fantastic, beautifully presented, & well-balanced.
Both plates that hit the table were thoughtful, precise, & delicious. An exceptional spot in Montreal that I would go back to in a heartbeat.
As of August 26, 2026 there was a lot of construction around the restaurant so getting there is a pain but well worth it.
Duck, Beef, Scallops & More ❤? What more can you really ask for then this?!
So I'm seriously kicking myself on this one. Probably the best meal I've had in 2026 to date. & it's crazy because here at @casavantmontreal, it's not like they are trying to reinvent the wheel here! But, with that said what they do server, is absolutely top notch of some of the best I've had.
So I have to start off by saying a pan sauce, can make or break a dish. Here both the sauce for the Duck & the Hanger Steak dish we got, freaking took me to another level. The duck was perfectly cooked, not chewy at all! Crispy Duck rendered skin & sliced to perfection. With a couple hearty radishes & lightly pickled veg, 10/10 banger. The Hanger Steak was really freaking mind blowing tho. Not only did they cook this thing perfect, while still being able to get a decent sear. But the sauce... Holy smokes! What a absolute show stopper. Paired so well with the delicate Chanterelles & perfectly cooked zucchini. Topped with a brown butter foam 100/10 FOODGASM 💦!
We also got the fan favourites that have been on the menu since they've opened on & off. Fresh to death Scallops with a Chorizo De Pascal topping. I think one of the best scallops dishes I've had in my life. So refreshing, super tender, perfectly seasoned, every element belongs there. Top 3 of all time for me for sure. Even the Beef tartare dish was taken to another level with the smoked mackerel sauce that took us to the moon. Bringing serf & turf to new heights!
I'd recommend this spot to anyone looking for a good time, fantastic meal & attentive servive experiance! Tell your friends, your family & whoever will listen, this needs to be on your list to go visite yesterday!
I loved my experience at Casavant! I went with my family for my mother's birthday.
The food was amazing (paccheri neri with lobster, halibut, steak, scallops) !!! We each had our individual portions, & I had more than enough. It's not one of those French restaurants where the portions are barely kid-size, thankfully! Also, I would say, the price is worth it.
The service itself is super nice as well ; the waiters are proactive, attentive, casually friendly. We all felt at ease there.
I made the reservation a month in advance (they actually open it one month in advance), & it was all booked when we came. So, reservation recommended. I don't know if they save spots for walk-ins... It's a small restaurant.
Ambiance-wise, it's casual, you can hear each other talk, unpretentious.
Right now, there are street constructions right in front, so the parking can be difficult, & the street view isn't cute. However, I didn't mind.
Enjoyable dinner. Lots of locals in this neighborhood restaurant. Enjoyed the Cucumber/Ceasar dish, as well as a scallop special. Hanger steak was excellent. Tables were tight on the, but servers did an admirable job working the floor.
Casavant is one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. Every one of their dishes are delicious. They do have a rotating menu but, I believe the scallops & sea bass are staples! The scallops are a must order for seafood lovers (like me) & I also tried the paccheri neri au homard & it was amazing. The lobster was perfectly cooked & the bisque was rich & creamy. For proteins, I preferred the duck over the steak. The duck was more flavourful & had a better cook than the steak in my opinion.
Had a great dinner at Casavant. we were a bif group so they accomodated us with a wonderful set menu. Everything they sent out was delicious. The Beef tartare & Scallops really set the bar high for the rest of the courses. Each dish server tastefully transitioned you from the last course to the next, allowing your pallet to taste the flavours of each ingredient.
The Price was very reasonable at 75$ a head, I felt like I got to taste alot of great food.
Atmosphere was great, the server & host notice anything to make your time better & offer to help. really unfortunate with the construction on the street but welcome to Montreal.

What a gem of a restaurant! The appetizers were delicious. We had the scallops & the beef tartare as appetizers; then duck & the sea bass for mains. All the dishes were amazing but our favorite was the scallops - we could have had 2 more orders! Had just enough room left to share the maple cake dessert :)
Every course was fantastic, with the scallops, fish & squid ink pasta particularly memorable. The restaurant & staff were incredibly friendly & accommodating, helping arrange the best time for our large group, a set menu upon arrival, & pacing the meal to make sure we could make it to another reservation later in the evening.
Visited with my mom, absolutely great. Had booking for 9:30, got there at 9, they sat us no problem. Presentation beautiful, server knowledgeable, interactive, & picked some excellent wines by the glass for us. Offered half-glasses when she felt each dish needed something different. Scallops crudo absolutely outstanding. Almost ordered a second serving instead of dessert. Thanks for the great experience.
