The appetizers were delicious. We had the scallops & the beef tartare as appetizers; then duck & the sea bass for mains. All the dishes were amazing but our favorite was the scallops - we could have had 2 more orders! Had just enough room left to share the maple cake dessert :)
Top-5 beef tartare from a tartare lover. Top-notch ingredients across the board & some well-curated dishes/drinks. Small menu, small spot, but lively. I'm solo at the bar with dates behind me & a group of 10 to my right - all vibes are valid. Arrived underdressed after a day at the park & was treated with nothing but smiles.
This restaurant is awesome!!! We weren't feeling that hungry so we went with their smaller portioned dishes. Our serveuse Claire was amazing. We got all the pertinent information about their dishes & experienced great service. Their scallop dish in particular blew us away. Seriously, everyone s gotta try it! Their beef tartare & mushroom dish were great as well. Oysters were very fresh & their cucumber sauce was a light yet amazing touch that enhanced the taste. Would recommend 100%
My wife & I ate at Casavant while visiting Montreal this weekend & had an all around lovely experience. We were definitely the only non-Francophones in attendance but all staff from the owners to servers were so kind & helpful. They helped us through the wine list & we ended up with a perfect bottle. We shared the scallops, beef tartare, duck & seabass. All four dishes were incredible, but the scallops were a favourite. One of the owners made us a list of other restaurants, bars & sites to see when he found out it was our first time in Montreal.
All around great experience & would highly recommend.
What a wonderful place - staff was warm & welcoming, & let me have small tastes of a lot their wine. Bartender guided me to exactly what I wanted. The scallop & sea bass dishes were divine.
The food went from very good to truly excellent. However, the pace of the service was way off.
Our appetizers arrived before the cocktails. Given the evident care & effort that went into preparing such outstanding dishes, it would have been more appropriate & more profitable for the restaurant to allow us to enjoy our drinks first & then pair the food with the corresponding wine.
Serving the dishes without regard to timing felt careless. It does a disservice to the people who put so much thought into the cooking & is frustrating for those paying to fully experience it as intended.
Favorite restaurant experience in Montreal during my most recent visit. Absolutely incredible meal from start to finish!! Delicious, creative dishes that were executed with the highest craft. Friendly & attentive staff that were helpful in wine & meal pairings. Couldn't recommend more!
A restaurant worth returning to. Menu is focused but compelling & it takes constraint, when dining for two, to select 4-5 dishes to share because all are appealing. Every bite was perfectly balanced & pleasantly rich - with clear care in both conception & execution. The kitchen should be proud. Service was friendly & relaxed, perfectly matched to the space. As a visitor, this is exactly the type of restaurant I wish I had in my home city.
The food was good but the overall experience was disappointing. The chairs are so uncomfortable I left with back pain. The smell in my hair & jacket after dinner was unbearable. The water wasn't great, the bread ($8) wasn't worth it & the portions were quite small for the price. The food itself was tasty but a bit too salty. Overall, great cooking, but not worth the discomfort or the price, the space is very small & extremely loud & the tables are tiny, barely enough space for the plates. Everyone ends up eating off the little bread plates because the main dishes don't fit. It feels ridiculous to be eating like that.
It's presented as'sharing style,' but it just turns into everyone crowding around small plates.
It's unreasonable for a Michelin-guided spot. Cloché Penché in Quebec City is in another league, sky & earth difference compared to Casavan.
This place was absolutely amazing! Everything was beyond perfect. If we visit Montreal again, we will definitely come back & try different dishes here. The service was excellent I wish I had asked the name of the person who took care of us, but we truly thank them! My only wish is that you keep striving for even better, although I don't think it could get any better than this 😊 Wishing you continued success!
