A brand new restaurant with the waiting room the size of a house entrance... not sure who's idea that was.
You have people waiting outside, some of which just outright left. We should have left with them!
The service is extremely slow, waiters bringing someone else's order to our table & the food isn't good anymore.
~10 years ago, this place used to be a 5/5 any day of the week.
Not sure why it got worse, but regardless, it's no longer worth it.
The new version of Baton Rouge on boulevard St. Jean was not the experience I was hoping for or one that I had become used to.
Apart from the oddly bright lighting, the dining room decor is a blend of upscale dark colored factory & office grey setting.
I wanted to savour a tasty bit of steak & of course their well baked potato to enjoy alongside that amazing gravy they usually serve.
Well...the steak arrived with some very tired looking steamed vegies & a piece of beef that must have been wrestled away from the great Gretzky after a few periods of agile practice.
As I shifted my attention to the baked potato, I indulged into the often well toasted & tasty potato skin after finding the potato a bit overcooked with an aged flavor in the skin itself.
Maybe my taste buds were off but it will be a while before I return.
I am deeply deeply disappointed with the shrinkflation I experience tonight. I was genuinely shocked. I have been going to Baton Rouge since the franchise opened & they have never failed me on flavour & food quality. However, tonight the rack of ribs that showed up was significantly smaller than what they used to be & cost even more than before.
I sadly will not go back ever again for a small over priced small rack of ribs. The chain should be embarrassed to offer such a devalued meal for such a high cost.
Shame really what was a great meal will now leave you wanting more.
Good luck going forward many won't care less & keep going I will not return.
Nice, new location. Service was great.
& the food was good.
Only issue was the temperature it was hot. We sat just behind the bar section & we sweat during dinne
Booked our reservation 2 weeks in advance. Arrived to be told there wasn't a table available & they tried to seat us at the bar. This is on a Wednesday evening. Explained that we booked well in advance & didn't want to sit in the bar. Finally got a both in the dining room. Steaks were poorly cooked (not done to order), veggies were sparse & uninspired. Place was way too loud to allow for conversation. Not impressed by their quasi-industrial decor. Really disappointing. At their previous location, the food & atmosphere were much better.
I book a table for four people, for 4:30pm today. We got on time. We wanted to change tables, it none was available, & it was not an issue. The place is a new location, nicely decorated. All was good at that point.
The problem was we waited till 5pm & we got no greetings from any waitress or waiter. No one acknowledged our presence, nor even offered a complimentary glass of water.
A group of 6 walked in after us, & a waitress started to service them, & we were still invisible. This is when we déçu to leave, but before we left the place, we informed the employee at the reception desk about our intention. We ended up at The Keg, Pointe-Claire, & the difference was noticeable from the moment we walked in.
Bâton-Rouge administration, something needs to be done. Customers walk in ready to spend a good time & a good amount of money, but this afternoon you lost clients maybe for good.
Ordered a filet mignon medium rare for myself & a medium done rib steak for my mother. Filet was pretty small & a little more rare than i would've liked. The rib steak though was way under cooked almost raw, & not to mention the size for a rib steak was a surprisingly small, thin piece of meat. Loaded potato was all potato & not enough sour cream/cheese/onion. Literally 3 bites & all the topping was gone & left with dry potato. Undercooked veggies (brocolli, cauliflower)
In my personal opinion Baton Rouge is really not what it once was.. sadly.
Definitely an upgraded version if you're aware about the new location change. Food is up to par!! Our waiter, Tasso gave us an amazing experience from welcoming us to sending us off! 10 out of 10 service too
Amazing food for a great price. Tasso, our waiter, was friendly & made sure we were having a good time by checking on us several times throughout the evening. It was definitely worth the 30 minute wait.
Over 30 min wait for our table despite having a reservation. No apology or acknowledgment by the staff. Once seated, the music was blaringly loud, could not hear my family speak.
The food was disappointing. Completely bland, unseasoned vegetables & baked potato. Raw batter on chicken tenders. Crab cakes tasted like mystery meat.
Two stars because the steak & ribs were well cooked.
Lovely dinner witha good friend!! Excellent service by our waiter Matt!
We went to Baton Rouge on Friday around 9:00 pm as a group of five, & it was a great experience. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, & we were seated without waiting
The food was really good everything came out fresh, well-prepared, & full of flavor. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals, which says a lot when you're a group with different tastes.
The service was also excellent. The staff was friendly, attentive, & made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night without being overwhelming.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable time & would definitely go back. Great spot for a dinner with friends or family!
I went for a friends bday. Waited over 1 hour for food to come. After ordering, we asked our waitress for more water & it never came. Our garlic bread came nice & hot but our main meals came over an hour later & friends were barely warm. We had asked for ketchup & mayo & had to ask 3 people before getting it. As for our water....finally got a second glass after we were halfway through our meal. The table next to us,was about 6 inches away from us, they may as well have asked if they can join us. Not impressed.
On Monday we decided to go out for lunch. Most restaurants don't provide service on Mondays & are closed, so we had to choose from what was available. We ended up going to Baton Rouge, which is pretty much the only option on the island.
They had just opened, so everything felt fresh & new. The service was pleasant, & the restaurant itself looked nice. The food was good, nothing particularly special, but I also can't say anything negative about it.
Overall, a decent option when choices are limited.
Bâton Rouge St-Jean is absolutely outstanding. The staff is epic specially Charlie!!!, on point, & genuinely delivers top-shelf service from the moment you walk in. Everyone is professional, attentive, & makes you feel like a valued guest the entire time.
& the roast beef - wow. Easily some of the best I've had anywhere. In my opinion, this is the best place to eat roast beef in Montreal. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, tender, & served exactly the way it should be.
If you want amazing service, a great atmosphere, & unforgettable roast beef, Bâton Rouge St-Jean is the place to go. Highly recommended.
