Firstly, it's a beautiful setting in an old mansion. We were greeted by a friendly hostess & seated promptly for our reservation. From here, things went downhill as we were ignored by waiter, Maxime, for 15-20 minutes, only for a brusque greeting of'do you want a drink' no apology for the delay. This ruined the experience out of the gate, & left us with little desire to spend additional time or money at this establishment.
The cocktail we ordered arrived with a good amount of foam spilled over the glass & down the side, leaving it a sticky mess.
In the amount of time it took to be served, receive our food, & be ignored by our waiter, I was able to write this entire review… Despite Maxime, being a blight on the entire evening, all other staff we dealt with were lovely, & the entrees (Beef Wellington & the Rigatoni) were flavorful & well prepared.
Good drinks, friendly staff, this is an old mansion beautifully restored.
Beautiful, wonderful atmosphere. A big Thank you to Fabiola who helped with our reservation which we had booked 3 months before arriving. We totally appreciate you ❤?! Jack & Soraya
Absolutely wonderful restaurant & bar, especially if you like jazz. They serve delicious food & drinks, provide a lovely atmosphere with a beautiful interior, have very friendly staff & they play great music. Eating in the bar area to the lovely tunes of jazz classics accompanied by a tasty cocktail knocks this one out of the park. I ate lunch at Bar George right after peak lunch time so there was just the right amount of people there; not too few to make you feel alone but not to many to make it feel crowded, this amount of people is just right for a restaurant like this.
Beautiful carved wood walls & ceiling. Vibes are super cool BUT I would totally remodel the area in the back. If you know you know what area. The walls have a bland color & compared to the rest of the bar it doesn't really match with the rest… I would add a nice wallpaper like they have in the front lobby & more vintage lamps to keep the vibes similar.
Drinks are perfect, food is good!
During our Montréal trip, we went to Bar George for a date night. It's such a beautiful spot with stunning decor. When we walked through the front doors, even though we had a reservation, we still had to line up with everyone else. A lot of people were lining up for the bar section near the entrance, & there was also a wedding happening upstairs, which made things a bit busier than usual.
We were booked in the dining area, which is located in a second room past the bar. We had to wait a while before someone helped us, & the arrangement at the entrance felt a little chaotic. I can't say the initial experience standing in line was great. However, once we got seated, the dining room itself was absolutely beautiful.
The vibe at the entrance felt more like a lively bar or party scene, while the dining area was much more refined & relaxed - an interesting contrast.
Once at our table, the service was fantastic. Our host was very attentive & gave us great food recommendations. We started with the mussels, which were fresh & delicious. My husband ordered the risotto, but when our food arrived, he was mistakenly served the gnocchi. The staff quickly caught the error & brought him the risotto, which he fully enjoyed.
I had the beef Wellington dish, & it was perfect - not a huge portion, but just the right amount, rich & full of flavor. We ended the night with a yummy dessert, though I can't quite remember which one it was, but I remember thoroughly enjoying it.
One thing I have to add: our bill ended up being just under $500, which, to be honest, felt way too high for a casual evening out. Even though the food was good, I can't really justify spending that much, & it definitely took away a bit from the overall experience for me. I left feeling like it just wasn't quite worth that price.
The food was delicious, & the service was great. I also really loved the interior-it's beautifully done in a classic British style, which gives the place a unique charm & cozy atmosphere. Overall, a very pleasant experience!
We came at lunch & service was great. The food is okay, nothing really special, & the portions are small. The place is beautiful. It's a good dining experience but we won't be back.
Great little fancy find! We did not partake in dining, but the bar area is historical & beautiful, & the bartenders are overly accommodating & full of wonderful suggestions!
Great cocktail bar. Try to make reservations. The atmosphere was beautiful. Old school candles. Had a modern twist with a DJ. It was expensive but, that's what you're paying for. Also, our lovely hostess really made my day by trying to get us in last second & we did. Since she did that, we decided to come back another day.
Wow! Just love this place. Amazing DJ, stylish crowd, great staff. The building is just beautiful inside & out. Great place to post up for an evening.
Went for dinner with my husband & it was such an amazing experience. The place itself is breathtaking, with a detailed handcrafted interior design, wooden sculpted wall panels & elegant chandeliers. The service is excellent, our waiter was very attentive & offered impeccable service during the entire evening. The food is beautifully presented, & each dish we ordered was a great culinary experience. The beef wellington was like a piece of art with vibrant colors surrounding the beef slices. As for the dessert, we ordered the monochrome, & I can safely say that it was probably one of the best desserts I've ever had. Each little piece is a combination of several layers of biscuit, mousse & other ingredients that blend perfectly well together as well as with the delicious ice cream accompanying it. Highly recommend this place for fine dining, such an experience!
The architecture of this restaurant was beautiful. The customer service was also good. However, we did not leave feeling satisfied with food given the high price tag. The beet salad & the chocolate dessert were excellent. However, our mains, the Beef Wellington & Chicken Roulade did not live up to our expectations. The beef Wellington by itself was nothing special, & it relied on the fancy colourful sauces to add flavour. It was not worth the price. The Chicken Roulade was ok, but not worth the money.
If you're visiting Montreal & have an appreciation for historic architecture & exceptional dining experiences, Bar George is an absolute must. Nestled within the beautiful Le Mount Stephen hotel, this restaurant offers a unique blend of old-world charm & modern culinary excellence that truly sets it apart. The experience at Bar George is nothing short of superb. From the moment you step inside, you're transported to another era, with the stunning woodwork, intricate ceilings, & luxurious ambiance reflecting the grandeur of a bygone age. It's the kind of place that makes you feel as though you've stepped into a piece of history, making it all the more special in a world where such architectural treasures are increasingly rare. The menu, priced at a very reasonable 55 CAD, offers a delightful selection of dishes that showcase the best of British & Québécois influences. Whether you're in the mood for something hearty or something light, there's something here for every palate. The flavors are well-balanced, & the presentation is exquisite, making every meal feel like a special occasion. What truly sets Bar George apart, however, is the service. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable, & genuinely invested in ensuring you have a memorable experience. Their warmth & professionalism add an extra layer of enjoyment to the meal, making you feel both welcome & well-cared for. In summary, Bar George is a gem in the heart of Montreal that offers not only a fantastic dining experience but also a chance to revel in the beauty of classic architecture. Whether you're a local or just visiting, it's a place that deserves a spot on your must-visit list.
Went for drinks & had a great time with friends. It is beautiful inside & provides a great atmosphere.
For starters, the place is beautiful, very classic architecture with a very cozying feeling to it. I ordered an Asahi beer & my girlfriend an espresso martini. Then we shared a prosciutto board with bread & a very good marinara sauce. She had as main the lobster risotto which was finger licking! & I had the burger which was very tasty, but the bread was horrible for some reason...
