Situé au Centre ville de Montréal, le Bar George's inscrit dans la continuité du riche passé du Mount Stephen's avec sa cuisine contemporaine mais résolument tournée vers l'avenir.
Bar George est décrit comme un lieu spectaculaire alliant une architecture historique et un cadre intérieur chaleureux, propice autant aux occasions spéciales qu'aux repas autour d'un cocktail. Le service est souvent salué pour son professionnalisme et ses bons conseils sur les plats et les vins, mais des expériences signalent des retards et quelques erreurs lorsque la salle est très fréquentée. La cuisine est généralement de haut niveau avec des plats comme le Beef Wellington et le risotto au homard, bien que certaines critiques pointent une croûte du Wellington pas assez croustillante et un rapport qualité-prix parfois discuté, les portions pouvant varier. Les cocktails et l'atmosphère du bar sont souvent loués, mais certains trouvent les prix élevés et le volume musical trop fort pour discuter tranquillement. Classic British restaurant. Nice interior. One of their desserts did not have the alcohol cooked off properly & wasn't great but the rest was amazing enough to make up for it (get the ham appetizer)

Je suis allé au Bar George pour une soirée spéciale & j'ai vraiment vécu une expérience inoubliable. L'ambiance de l'endroit est incroyable. Les détails en bois & l'éclairage tamisé donnent un côté très chic. Le service était professionnel du début à la fin. Les plats ont aussi dépassé mes attentes. Les présentations étaient particulièrement impressionnantes. Je me suis vraiment senti spécial. Les prix sont élevés, mais ça vaut clairement la peine. J'ai été très satisfait.
The best Beef Wellington of Montreal. Period! & those in the know, they know how that dish is technically hard to get right, which goes to tell you how skilled their kitchen brigade happens to be! Tip top quality ingredients. Superb service as well. It is not cheap, but what is cheap, nowadays, downtown Montreal (at the exception of the fast food joints...& even those are not as cheap as you might think)? Skip the restaurant area, go to the bar (very pretty!). & I hope they are done, soon, with the current renovations in front of the restaurant.
Walked into Bar George for dinner with friends & were greeted with something unusual: before even sitting down, we were informed the minimum tip is 20%. Nothing says'welcome' like being told how much gratitude you owe before you've even seen the menu.
After dinner I paid the whole bill. Later at home we noticed we were charged for two extra drinks we never ordered. Not a huge amount of money, but that's not the point - it's a matter of honesty.
I called the restaurant & was told to email the manager. I emailed two contacts (apparently a manager & an accountant). No reply. Twice.
So the system seems to be:
1. Demand a generous tip upfront.
2. Add mystery drinks to the bill.
3. Ignore the customer afterwards.
If you dine here, read your bill carefully - apparently the drinks menu may continue after you leave.
L'endroit est à la hauteur de la réputation avec un réel soucis du client & un service impéccable & transparent en plus d'un accompagnement délicat & personnalisé. La sélection de vin est très complète.
The space inside Le Mount Stephen is genuinely jaw-dropping; all mahogany, stained glass & ornate woodwork that makes you feel like you're dining inside a Downton Abbey fever dream. I walked in & immediately felt underdressed, & under-funded.
Then came the cocktail menu. A perfectly executed Old Fashioned arrived in a glass so elegant I briefly considered not drinking it & just taking it home as decor. Then the bill arrived & I realized I had just sipped the equivalent of a car payment. The food - British-inspired, locally sourced, thoughtfully plated - is lovely in theory, though the portions have a very'European vacation' energy: beautiful, memorable, & not quite enough to prevent you from stopping at a shawarma place on the way home.
Come for the architecture, stay for the ambiance, & eat a full meal beforehand. Bar George is a magnificent stage with a slightly overpriced script - but as a backdrop for feeling fancy for two hours, it has absolutely zero competition in this city.

Exquisite decor & top-tier service from Jonathan & Julian define this elegant spot. Chefs Kevin & Donald deliver a superb lobster risotto & mushroom soup. However, lowering the loud contemporary music for classical would better match the atmosphere.
My wife is celiac & when we told the waiter he bent over backwards to make sure her plate was safe, the chef came to talk to us & delivered the plate himself. She had the burger with gluten free bread & a salad, everything was delicious.
Had an absolutely wonderful dining experience here! The atmosphere was warm & welcoming from the moment we walked in. Our server was attentive & knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations. The food was exceptional - fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned, & beautifully presented. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor. The portions were generous & well worth the price. The restaurant was clean & well-maintained, & despite being busy, we didn't feel rushed. The dessert was the perfect ending to our meal. We'll definitely be returning soon & would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal & excellent service. Five stars!
