Incredible food, & amazing service. The architectural detail in the wood work is so impressive what a lovely building.
I was recently at Bar George. The newlyweds reserved the dining room to celebrate with their family. The room was gorgeous, I liked the high windows & atmosphere. Nice place for a special occasion.
Took my date here & loved it. Atmosphere, service, & food were excellent. Very elegant. Highly recommended.
New review posted on one table as well where I dropped the star rating to 2 -> I left a google review more than a year ago which was more complimentary then this review will be. Why? Quite simply the quality of the food has deteriorated considerably (perhaps there is a new chef?) while of course the prices have gone up a good 65% across the board. Just analyzing the lobster risotto for example this dish had been previously excellent taste wise while ungenerous portion wise particularly with the lobster aspect. Now the taste level has significantly decreased - with no proof I feel there is a new chef who has put his'exotic' spin on all the dishes adding Indian spices (à la Punch restaurant in Toronto) to the dishes. Trying to be trendy with tried & true dishes is not a good idea. I may still go for breakfast because I do love the setting of the restaurant very much but please fire your new chef & improve your food to fit the super high prices.
Old review from 1 year ago where I gave everything 4 stars -> The starters were ok. The steak tartare was good but the portion even for a starter was small - a pattern throughout the service. The beetroots again were ok. The halibut dish was exceptional & the lobster risotto again great despite the ungenerous portion of lobster on it. Overall MB rating 7.5/10.
Can't give it less than five stars.
If you are either visiting or from the area , this is definitely one of the top tier spots.
I've done breakfast, dinner, & have dined both indoors & outdoors on the patio.
The food is top tier & has been for the last few years that I have been going as well as service.
Atmosphere as well, Can't think of too many places that have more ambiance regardless of the day or time.
Definitely on the higher budget end, but if it fits within one's means this place delivers.
Immersed in beautiful woodwork & historic setting, ou go to is the bar for martinis & those arancini.
For my first time in Bar George, we rented a private dining room. The procedure to book it was very straight forward & easy. If you're a couple or a small group, I suggest you take a look at their options: they have different room sizes & the rooms are surprisingly really quiet. If you want have a nice conversation & avoid the loud music & noise of the main room, I suggest you take a look.
Otherwise, both the service & food was excellent. Our server was Jay & he was fantastic throughout the entire service - easily one of the best we ever had the pleasure to be hosted by.
I've been to Bar George many times & it's always excellent. The vibe, service, & quality are consistently on point. Not sure how I forgot to leave a review before, but better late than never one of my favorite spots.
A great place in Montréal to visit. Take the time for a coffee with your friends. I liked it.
A rail 🚂baron's mansion that is nearly as old as our country could easily be a b&b, beautiful & boring. But not this place, it has a vibrant yet chill atmosphere. I love sitting here & soaking in the atmosphere & people… & don't miss the Matane shrimp toast. 😋
Walked in on New Years Eve & came back for New Year's Day because we loved it so much! Amazing atmosphere, kind staff & the architecture in the bar is amazing.
A beautiful restaurant. I visited here a few times. Always enjoyed the food & atmosphere. The only thing I would say is the portion size, & it's a bit pricey for the amount of food offered. For example, today we went for brunch. The dish is so small. We had to order side dishes to feel a bit full. I recommend that the restaurant reconsider its portion size. Maybe supply those nice duck fat potatoes as part of the meal. I think when customers feel satisfied & full, they will come back.
New years Eve dinner scam with chef Ramaswamy. Decided to treat my wife to a 5 course dinner at Bar George for new years eve for $ 280 a pop ! Big mistake here is why: We are not food critiques or fancy food influencers lol we are very simple straight frwrd no BS customers. The menu says lobster tail as an appetizer we expect to get the lobster tail not a sorry chunk of lobster the size of a shrimp impaled on a squewer ! The Ramaswamy came out to our table, I let him know straight up this is not what it says on the menu ! He replied bluntly that it's only a piece of lobster tail not the whole tail expecting me to back down ! I pointed out to him that the menu said other wise, please see the menu photo below & decide for yourself ! He laughed it off & left. From there on the whole menu went crashing down : soggy stuffed pasta raw for aldente, with white truffles & a creamy white sauce that you can get for 20 dollars anywhere in little Italy, then came black boiled cod which was tasteless & disgusting not worth $15 dollars at any fish & ships. The tuna Wellington was a disgrace ! who ever George is he must be turning in his grave … the Pastry bland, the tuna uncooked & cold .. & finally a sorbet with no taste on top of tiny chocolate bar with pears that you over pay at $ 7,50 dollar price tag from any French patisserie on the plateau! All in all one dollar appetizer + $20 pasta + $ 15 cod +$ 10 tuna Wellington & $ 7,5 $ dessert for a max total a $ 53 worth experience sold at $ 280.l left 20% for the service because they were doing their job & they paid for our drinks 2 cocktails & a coke zero to make it up to us ! So for two we paid with tips & taxes $750 & there you have it : a New Year's Eve dinner scam in deed ! I left a note to fire the chef because it's a failure & he is rude on top of it ! Just saying first & last experience at mount Stephen hotel … it's not about paying money it's about being cheated out of your money while your trying to finish the year with a classy meal lol !
