The experience was disappointing from start to finish. The smoky air inside had my eyes burning while I waited in line, which already made it unpleasant. After paying, I waited another 20 minutes for my pizza. The flavor just didn't land.
Fantastic pizzeria. All of their offerings are good. I thought the Sicilian pizza might be too heavy because it is thick but the dough is actually light & airy which is nice. Detroit pizza is loaded with cheese underneath which creates that crust on the outside but also holds the sauce really well even when re-heated (definitely recommend the vodka bacon). The grandma margarita is also fantastic. Very aromatic. Pretty impressive that they are able to consistently dish out all these different type of pizzas at such a high level. Kudos to the team here.
I cannot express to you enough - I bawled my eyes out & had a seriously spiritual experience thinking of my youth & all of the world of food my grandparent's shared with me as a child all compressed into this ONE PERFECT EXPRESSION OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A DESCENDANT OF A TRUE ITALIAN FAMILY
If you know the backstory about how these guys all learn how to make their pizzas & the genius behind it,
I would go as far as saying it's the best pizza in Canada. I legit got there Detroit style bacon vodka travelled all the way to Ottawa & dropped it to a few of my boys, needless to say they're making the trip to Montreal to come have this pizza five stars all across the board hands-down the best restaurant in Verdun cheers to the staff you guys are awesome
Easily in my top 5 pizza in Montreal. Possibly even top 3. I took the sicilian meat lover & the magherita grandma. The magherita was absolutely delicious. I finally understood what the umami flavor means. I do have one complain about it tho. The cashier told us it was fresh, but I think they let it cool too much & the slice I received was lukewarm at best, which made the slice a bit hard to chew. Still, despite that, the flavor was insane. I prefered that flavor over the sicilian. I highly recommend trying the place & I'll be back myself for sure.
There are two categories of pizzeria's in town. Welldun falls under the latter: Expensive, High End with a spin (in this case, two) on pizza's.
Marguerita Pizza (the true choice to test the 3 main ingredients). Dough spot on, thin, light, crispy. Sauce nice, like one step below fresh tomatoes (not possible season round) but good, right flavour. Cheese was mozzarella, it was okay & helped out by the pecorino grated cheese. 4 out of 5.
Spicy Sausage Pizza. Ah yes, this one could of been great like other pizzerias. Dough, Sauce, Mozzarella like a Margarita. By spicy sausage, we thought the sausage was spicy (spicy peppers used for hot & spicy flavour). Way too little sausage (maybe 10 fingernail size pieces of sausage) & Way too many peppers (they got quantities mixed up imho). 2.5 out of 5.
Sicilian Style Pepperoni Pizza. Well, I am not a fan of this spin on a pan type pizza. Tomato sauce stlii good, but the dough is a little too greasy imho (not sure if Sicilian Pizza is supposed to be this greasy). Ah, the pepperoni, sorry guys but it is one of the low end ingredients you use on your pizza's. It is bland, super small, & gets'dog ears' when cooked as it curls up. Only saving grace, it's not oily on top. Flavour less. 3.5 out of 5.
This place hits a homerun for that walk in slice & go customer. They sell alot, it's fast & fresh. Hard pass if you're doing takeout for a family & friends gathering. 3 pizza's ran me a $100 & at best they are like a Domino's Medium in size. They were not bad, but with 6 people & kids there was leftovers.
Good food & friendly staff, but for the love of God, please install air conditioning for the kitchen staff it's unbelievably hot in there. They deserve better working conditions.
